Spartans Win Big Ten Recruiting Battle Over Iowa With 3-Star EDGE Cory House
Spartans Win Big Ten Recruiting Battle Over Iowa With 3-Star EDGE Cory House originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After visiting Michigan State on May 30 and Iowa on June 5, the Spartans picked up edge Cory House as their 10th 2026 recruit. The 3-star and No. 68 edge recruit in the country from Memphis, TN, declared his commitment on June 10. Rush ends coach Chad Wilts, who ultimately was credited as the primary recruiter, first gave House an offer back in February. However, the 6'5, 240-pound edge was wanted at 28 schools across the country, including 12 power conference schools. House now marks Michigan State's sixth consecutive defensive addition for the class of 2026 alongside safety Brayden Thomas, cornerback K.J. Deriso, safety Elijah Caldwell-Hardy, linebacker Braylon Hodge, and defensive tackle Chris Knauls. Advertisement Thomas, Deriso, and Hodge were also part of the first group of visitors. Thomas first committed to Iowa State on February 1. On May 31, one day after his official visit, the Ohio native hinted at flipping his decision before verbally committing to Michigan State on June 2. Despite upping the numbers, the Spartans are still pulling together more of a lackluster recruitment class with No. 295 overall Coffman being the only commit in the top 550 overall. Currently Michigan State's recruitment is ranked 44th in the country, falling well behind its Big Ten rivals in the top 20 overall: USC (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (No. 5), Rutgers (No. 9), Illinois (No. 12), UCLA (No. 14), Minnesota (No. 18), and Washington (No. 20). While the Spartans bumped from No. 57 to No. 44, being on the weaker end of recruitment will force head coach Jonathan Smith to rely on returners making leaps heading into his second year if he's unable to secure high-end recruits. Michigan State football recruiting: DE Cory House the Spartans' 10th commit for 2026 class
Bolstering Joe Rossi's defense remains the early 2026 priority for Michigan State football's recent recruiting run. The Spartans picked up a commitment Tuesday, June 10, from three-star high school prospect Cory House. The defensive end from Memphis, Tennessee, picked MSU over nearly 30 offers, including Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland and other power-conference programs. Whitehaven’s Cory House (5) puts his finger to his lips to quiet his sideline as referees decide whether it is Central or Whitehaven’s ball after a Central receiver possibly touched a Whitehaven punt that was recovered by a Whitehaven player during the game between Memphis Central High School and Whitehaven High School at the Whitehaven Classic in Memphis, Tenn., on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Whitehaven defeated Central 40-13. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound House is rated as the nation's No. 77 edge rusher and No. 832 player overall according to composite rankings. He is the Spartans' 10th pledge for 2026 and sixth on the defensive side of the ball after MSU received commitments over the weekend from cornerback Kelsey 'KJ' Deriso, defensive lineman Christopher Knauls, Jr., and safety Eliyjah Caldwell-Henry. Advertisement House had 50 tackles, including 15 for a loss and five sacks, last season for Whitehaven High while forcing two fumbles and deflecting three passes according to the (Memphis) Commercial Appeal. He is the Spartans' first edge rush commit for 2026. Contact Chris Solari: csolari@ Follow him @chrissolari. Michigan State football beats out Iowa, lands commitment from 3-star edge Cory House Michigan State football has started the week by winning a big time recruiting battle and adding to their 2026 recruiting class at a position of need. Cory House, an edge rushing prospect from Memphis (TN), has committed to MSU. The Spartans won the commitment for House in a head to head battle with Big Ten rival Iowa. This decision comes off of official visits to both schools the past two weekends, with MSU coming out ahead. A 6-foot-5, 240 pound edge, House is a standout at Whitehaven High School in Memphis. He ranks as an 87-rated 3-star and No. 68 edge in the country by 247Sports. House had 28 total offers, with 12 of those offers being from power conference schools. Initially, he was also scheduled to visit Indiana and North Carolina, before the Spartans and Hawkeyes turned this into a two-man race. Michigan State rush ends coach Chad Wilt is credited with being the primary recruiter in this recruitment, doing what the Spartans needed him to do to win out with a commitment, especially over a Big Ten rival in Iowa.
