Manassas man charged with rape after sexually assaulting girl he met on Instagram, police say
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. () — A Manassas man is being held behind bars after he allegedly sexually assaulted a child he met on Instagram, police announced Thursday. Officers arrested Widman Vicente Lopez, 19, on June 4, charging him with rape, solicitation of a minor and use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving minors. According to the Prince William County Police Department, detectives opened an investigation after a girl, who is under the age of 13, told family members that a man had sexually assaulted her. Police investigating deadly hit-and-run crash on Lee Highway in Gainesville While investigating, detectives learned that the girl was talking to Vicente Lopez when he solicited sex acts from her, according to police. The pair had reportedly met over Instagram. Detectives also discovered that Vicente Lopez met the girl in the 100 block of Nadia St. at the end of April, where he sexually assaulted her, police said. Police investigate deadly mid-day double shooting in Prince George's County
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. () — Police in Prince George's County are at the scene of a deadly shooting that happened in the middle of the day on Tuesday. The Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) said officers responded to the 5600 block of Regency Park Ct. at 12:35 p.m., where two men were found inside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. Man who jumped into Mississippi River during pursuit now charged
Editor's note: Video is from a previous story ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A Festus, Missouri, man has been charged after attempting a daring escape from authorities following a bi-state police pursuit. According to the St. Louis County Police Department's probable cause statement, the pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, on eastbound Interstate 70 near the Blanchette Bridge in Earth City. Police said officers attempted to pull over Jack J. Roper (age not provided), who was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck bearing Audi license plates. Roper swerved toward a police vehicle during the pursuit, police said. Officers eventually spiked Roper's tires. The chase went over the Chain of Rocks Bridge into Illinois and came back over the bridge back toward Missouri. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Police said Roper stopped on the bridge, got out the truck, and threatened to jump from the bridge into the Mississippi River. Officers attempted to talk Roper into surrendering, but he grabbed a piece of lumber from the truck and tossed it into the river before jumping after it. Roper left behind two people in the truck. One of the individuals told police they did not want to be involved and told Roper to stop multiple times. Police said they located Roper at the water treatment plant in Riverview, thanks to the use of the St. Louis Fire Department's boats. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Roper with two counts of second-degree assault, one count of aggravated fleeing a stop or detention, and one count of second-degree kidnapping. Shooting on South Carolina charter boat leaves 11 injured: Police
At least 11 people were injured Saturday night when gunfire erupted during a Memorial Day weekend gathering on a docked charter boat in Little River, South Carolina, police said. Horry County Police said in an online statement Monday morning that 10 of the people hurt in the shooting were hospitalized with gunshot wounds, including one who was in critical but stable condition. An eleventh victim suffered a non-gunfire-related injury, police said. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and detectives are working to identify those responsible for the shooting. "Thus far, the investigation indicates that the shooting was an isolated event that resulted from an altercation during a private Memorial Day weekend gathering on a charter boat," police said in the statement. The incident unfolded around 10 p.m. Sunday in Little River, a town about 24 miles north of Myrtle Beach. Police in Little River, South Carolina, are responding to a shooting that left at least 11 people hospitalized over Memorial Day County Police Department Numerous police officers and firefighters responded to the scene of the shooting near Watson Avenue near the Intracoastal Waterway and began treating injured victims. Man in custody after jumping into Mississippi River during overnight pursuit
ST. LOUIS – A man was taken into custody early Thursday morning after ending up in the Mississippi River following an overnight police chase in north St. Louis. According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. on eastbound I-70 near the Blanchette Bridge in Earth City, involving a suspect in a Chevy S-10 pickup truck. The pursuit began after officers attempted to pull over the pickup truck, but the vehicle instead took off. According to police, the chase went over the Chain of Rocks Bridge into Illinois and came back over the bridge back to Missouri. Doctor sees a trend in young St. Louis cancer patients living near nuclear waste sites According to police, when the suspect came back around to the bridge after reentering Missouri, the suspect reportedly got out of the pickup truck and either fell or jumped off the bridge into the Mississippi River. There was a large police presence on the scene as authorities had completely shut down the Chain of Rocks Bridge while searching for the suspect. The St. Louis Fire Department used boats for the search, according to police, before authorities eventually located the suspect at a water treatment plant in Riverview. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. According to police, no officers were injured during the pursuit.
