COVINGTON, Ga. - A gunman opened fire during a birthday party at a Covington park on Sunday afternoon. Authorities said the gunfire stemmed from a domestic dispute. What we know Officers with the Covington Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at Academy Springs Park on May 25. When officers arrived, they secured the area and launched an investigation into what authorities are calling an aggravated assault. According to the Covington Police Department, the violence began during a private event at the park when an argument broke out between a man and his child's mother. The dispute reportedly centered around the man's attendance, who he brought with him to the party. The situation escalated and moved toward the park's playground area as the victims attempted to leave. Police said an unidentified man then fired at least three shots in the direction of the victims. Two of the bullets struck a vehicle the victims were using as cover. No injuries were reported. What we don't know Investigators are working to identify the gunman. Covington Police attach tracking device on car before it speeds off
Dashcam video posted by Covington Police shows a deputy following a car suspected to be stolen and launching a tracking device that attached to the car's license plate. Police were recently alerted about a stolen car with the assistance of Flock Cameras, or license plate readers, positioned around Covington, the city posted on Facebook. Deputies found the car driving around the city and attempted to pull it over, but the driver started to pull away. Video shows that before the car sped off, the deputy launched the Starchase device from the front of their patrol car and it attached to the back of the suspect's car. Police say the deputy was able to back off from the fleeing car, and the suspect was tracked to another location and arrested. The car was returned to the owner and the suspect was arrested for an outstanding warrant, possession of a stolen vehicle, and attempting to elude, the City of Covington posted on Facebook.

Months-long narcotics investigation leads to arrest in Miami County
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – One person was arrested in Miami County after officials executed a narcotics search warrant on Wednesday. Miami County Sheriff's detectives, deputies and Covington Police officers executed the warrant in the 100 block of South Ludlow Street in the Village of Covington. University of Dayton hosts preview of James Bond-themed concert Officers allegedly discovered multiple items, including suspected meth, prescription pills and items that can be used in the packaging and selling of narcotics. The warrant was the product of a months-long investigation into the alleged trafficking of methamphetamine. Man arrested after climbing under Brent Spence Bridge following pursuit, police say
A man is in custody after climbing the Brent Spence Bridge after a police pursuit on Monday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Covington Police received information that a burglary suspect was traveling on Interstate 75 northbound near I-275, according to Covington Police. They added the vehicle was connected to a known home invasion burglary suspect. 'The suspect eventually lost control and crashed into two other cars on the lower deck of the Brent Spence Bridge. The suspect fled the scene of the accident on foot and attempted to carjack one of the vehicles he ran into. The suspect climbed over the side of the bridge and hid in the support beams underneath for several hours. Police were forced to shut down both northbound and southbound traffic on the bridge to safely facilitate the search for the suspect,' said Covington Police Captain Justin Bradbury. Cincinnati Police assisted in the search for the suspect and several drones were deployed, as well as rescue boats, the police said. They found the suspect, who eventually surrendered and was taken into custody by Covington Police. The suspect, 38-year-old Joshua D. Baker, was arrested on two counts of fleeing, one count of wanton, one count of criminal mischief, one count of carjacking, and driving with a suspended license. Medics transported him to an area hospital before being lodged for detention. A female passenger was with Baker and was taken to an area hospital for minor injuries. We will update this story.
