Man arrested after fake gun reportedly aimed at taxi driver, Prince George RCMP say

A suspect was arrested in Prince George, B.C., over the weekend after someone reportedly aimed a gun at a taxi driver. Prince George RCMP said the incident was reported around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and that officers quickly located a suspect on Fourth Avenue and Quinn Street. Authorities ultimately determined the firearm was fake. 'RCMP are reminding the public that a police response to an imitation firearm will illicit the same response as a real firearm,' said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, in a statement. A subsequent search 'incidental' to the suspect's arrest turned up a real gun and ammunition, authorities said. Prince George resident Clayton Gus Joseph, 38, has since been charged with possession of a weapon, possession of an imitation weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, uttering threats, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The suspect will remain in custody pending his next court appearance, the RCMP said.

RCMP seeking witnesses to pair of assaults in Prince George, B.C.

Police in Prince George, B.C., are seeking witnesses who may have information on a pair of assaults that took place earlier this month. Both occurred in the early hours of July 4. Police were first called to the 100 block of George Street just after 4 a.m. amid a report a man had been hit over the head with a baseball bat. According to a release by Prince George RCMP Tuesday, both the victim and the suspect had left the area before police arrived. Mounties were called to the same area two hours later after receiving a report of a man who had collapsed on the ground. The man was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries, the statement said. Suspecting that the man may have been the victim of a second assault related to the first, officers are requesting anyone who has any information regarding the event, specifically what happened within those two hours between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., to contact police. Surveillance video from the earlier assault shows 'a man wearing a black jacket, white t-shirt and black pants get assaulted by another man wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and jeans,' said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper in the statement. 'We are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this event or who knows who the victim or suspect are,' she said. Anyone wishing to come forward is advised to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300, or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via its website at

Prince George RCMP investigate $25,000 in damage to cemetery headstones

RCMP say they are investigating after cemetery staff in Prince George, B.C. discovered 21 vandalized headstones on Monday. RCMP estimate the damage at the Prince George Municipal Cemetery to be up to $25,000. Four of the 21 knocked-over headstones were damaged, according to city spokesperson Kendall Robertson. "The non-damaged ones have been returned to their positions and everything cleaned up," Robertson said. "Staff also notified plot owners of the damaged markers." The City of Prince George, located about 515 kilometres northeast of Vancouver, said it is not financially responsible for repairs or replacing the damaged headstones. City bylaws state that the care of "grave space memorials" is the responsibility of the owner. Since there is no surveillance on the cemetery grounds, there is little insight into what happened, according to Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. Investigators are asking anyone who has information on the case to contact RCMP.
