Not Mullanpur! This City To Replace Bengaluru As Host Of Women's WC 2025: Report
Curated By : Cricketnext Staff Last Updated: August 12, 2025, 20:05 IST Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram (PTI) The Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is poised to replace Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as a venue for the upcoming 2025 Women's ODI World Cup, scheduled from September 30 to November 2. Sources informed IANS that the Karnataka government has denied permission to host matches at the Bengaluru stadium due to significant safety concerns following the June 4 stampede. Consequently, the matches allocated to Bengaluru for the Women's ODI World Cup will now be held in Thiruvananthapuram. 'Yes, it has come to light that due to no permissions coming on time for hosting World Cup games in Bengaluru, it will now be moving to Thiruvananthapuram, which is also an ideal venue due to weather conditions and its proximity to Colombo. The ICC will be officially announcing it soon," IANS quoted sources as saying on Tuesday. Why World Cup Match Not Happening In Bengaluru? Uncertainty has surrounded future matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium since the June 4 stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory celebrations, which resulted in 11 deaths and over 50 injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and findings by the Justice John Michael D'Cunha Commission have concluded that the stadium is inadequately equipped to safely host large-scale events. The committee stated that the stadium's design and structure are inherently unsuitable and unsafe for mass gatherings, warning that high-attendance events would pose unacceptable risks to public safety, urban mobility, and emergency preparedness. Due to these concerns, the KSCA shifted Maharaja T20 Trophy games to Wadeyar Ground in Mysuru, while Alur hosted the Maharani T20 competition matches. Originally, Bengaluru was set to host the opening game of the women's ODI World Cup between India and Sri Lanka, a semi-final, and possibly the final on November 2. Additionally, Bengaluru was scheduled to host two warm-up games ahead of the event. The Greenfield International Stadium has not yet hosted women's international cricket matches. However, it has previously hosted four men's T20Is, two ODI games, Youth Tests, and ODIs, and was a venue for the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup warm-ups, although these games were abandoned due to incessant rain. Other venues for the tournament include Visakhapatnam, Indore, Guwahati, and Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital. Eight teams will compete in a round-robin format: defending champions Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. India has previously hosted the Women's ODI World Cup in 1978, 1997, and 2013. Star Wicket-Keeper And Young Batter Join Big Indian Names At BCCI's CoE: Report
Curated By : Cricketnext Staff Last Updated: August 12, 2025, 19:39 IST BCCI Centre of Excellence (PTI) India's wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and all-rounder Riyan Parag have reported to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for their routine fitness assessments, according to a report in TOI. Both players are part of the East Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, with Kishan set to captain the side. Kishan, who has represented India in two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is, recently suffered an ankle injury after reportedly falling off a scooter. This injury previously led the national selectors to call up N Jagadeesan as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. Parag, who has played one ODI but is yet to make his T20I debut, captained the Rajasthan Royals in several matches during IPL 2025 when regular skipper Sanju Samson was sidelined. Which Indian Cricketers Are Currently At BCCI's CoE? The CoE is currently hosting several high-profile names for routine checks. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and T20I opener Abhishek Sharma are already undergoing assessments, while middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer visited recently. India's T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is also at the facility, having resumed batting in the nets following sports hernia surgery. The upcoming months present a packed schedule for India's white-ball team, beginning with the T20-format Asia Cup. The calendar features a home series against Australia in October (three ODIs, five T20Is), South Africa in November-December (three ODIs, five T20Is), and New Zealand in January (three ODIs, five T20Is), culminating in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February-March. As per reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel is expected to announce the Asia Cup squad on August 19 or 20, once the CoE's Sports Science team submits the medical reports of all players. Swipe Left For Next Video View all 'Abhishek Sharma is world's No. 1 T20 batter in last ICC rankings. Sanju Samson has been fantastic last season with both bat and gloves. So it will certainly be a tough call but Shubman in current form (although in Tests) can't be ignored. He had a good IPL also. Problem for selectors is, there are too many performers at the top of the order," a BCCI source privy to developments had earlier told PTI on Monday. IND vs ENG 4th Test Day 5: Jadeja, Washington Carry On Good Fight As India Take Lead
Last Updated: Sundar and Jadeja's gritty half-centuries gave India a narrow 11-run lead at tea on the fifth day of the fourth Test, raising hopes for a morale-boosting draw against England. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja continued India's resistance on the fifth day of the fourth Test with gritty half-centuries, giving the visitors a narrow 11-run lead at tea. More importantly, they raised hopes for a morale-boosting draw. Jadeja (53 not out off 102) and Washington (58 not out off 139) batted with determination to save the game, frustrating England's tired attack. At tea, India were 322 for four, having added 99 runs in a wicketless afternoon session. Ben Stokes, who looked threatening in his eight-over spell in the morning, couldn't maintain the intensity in the three overs he bowled in the second session. In a 15-run over from Stokes, Washington hit the England captain for a six and four to reach his fifty, before Jadeja used the cut shot to complete his fifth half-century in six innings. With limited batting left and Rishabh Pant injured, it's uncertain if India can secure a draw from this position. England struggled as left-arm spinner Liam Dawson (0/70 in 39 overs) couldn't challenge the Indian left-handers enough, and Jofra Archer failed to break through after lunch. The second new ball is now 38 overs old, making batting easier. In the morning session, Shubman Gill scored a determined hundred after Stokes battled through pain to dismiss a well-set KL Rahul, leaving India at 223 for four at lunch. Starting the day at 174 for two with a deficit of 137, India stayed on course for a draw thanks to Gill's fighting effort, who reached his fourth century of the series. The Indian captain fell just before lunch, with the visitors still trailing England by 88 runs. Given India's precarious position and the series on the line, this could be Gill's most significant century if India manages to save the match and keep the series alive. Expecting the ball to come in, Gill edged a delivery from Jofra Archer that shaped away slightly. The 188-run partnership between Gill and Rahul (90 off 230) was finally broken when the latter was trapped in front by Stokes with a ball that stayed a bit low from length. Shortly after, Stokes got one to bounce sharply from a similar length, causing Rahul considerable pain. The rising ball first struck Gill's right thumb before hitting his helmet. It was remarkable that Stokes, who was unfit to bowl on day four, managed an eight-over spell on day five despite discomfort in his right shoulder and hamstring. Like at Lord's, he ignored his injury-prone body to help his team. The new ball was taken after the 80th over and led to Gill's dismissal. Jadeja could have been out first ball, but Joe Root couldn't hold on to a tough chance at first slip off Archer. Ex-India Star Slams Ben Stokes Captaincy Hype: 'Have I Missed Any Masterstroke?'
Mohammad Kaif criticized Ben Stokes' captaincy in the Edgbaston Test, questioning his decisions and highlighting his batting struggles and tactical errors. Former India star Mohammad Kaif believes Ben Stokes has been overhyped as England's Test captain. He listed what he felt were Stokes' errors in the Edgbaston Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on social media, asking his followers to 'inform' him of any 'hidden master strokes' that make him this popular. Several pundits have labeled Stokes as one of the best captains in English history. Though he hasn't led them close to a World Test Championship title, while also failing to correct historical deficiencies in India and Australia, his aggressive style of leadership is considered revolutionary. Statistically, he has a win percentage of 60, the best for any captain of the country who led in more than 10 matches. 'I have never understood the hype around Ben Stokes the captain," Kaif wrote on X. 'On a flat track with sun shining he decides to bowl, today with some life in pitch edges flying but no extra slip. Batsmen took England to win in first Test but Stokes didn't score many. Please inform if I have missed any of his hidden leadership master stroke." Stokes' form with the bat has been questionable. He scored 20 and 33 at Headingley in the first Test and got out for a golden duck at Edgbaston in the second. However, he has tried to make up for some of it with the ball, taking five wickets in the first Test and another at Edgbaston. England are in a precarious situation in the second Test ahead of the fifth day at 72/3 in the chase of 608. Stokes will want to come good with the bat with his ability to hold fort because a win looks far from likely. If he can help the team hold on, it'll just be the second draw under his leadership — no other England captain with more than 10 Tests at the helm saw fewer than two draws. The first and only draw under him was also a forced one — the rain-washed game at Old Trafford in Ashes 2023. Rain is said to be looming around Edgbaston, too, but is unlikely to cause significant loss of playing time. About the Author Cricketnext Staff First Published: July 06, 2025, 11:47 IST
