Palawan town to be placed under state of calamity after severe flooding
The town of Roxas in Palawan will be placed under a state of calamity following days of severe flooding caused by continuous rains from the southwest monsoon, or habagat, intensified by the recent Tropical Storm #CrisingPH. Roxas Mayor Pedy Sabando confirmed the move in an interview with Super Radyo Palawan DYSP 909Khz, saying the same is based on a recommendation from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC). The Municipal Council approved the recommendation during its regular session on Monday, July 21, 2025. Sabando is expected to sign the declaration on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The local government has allocated P1 million to provide food packs for residents affected by the flooding and currently staying in evacuation centers. Additional assistance has also been sent to Roxas by the Palawan Provincial Government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). 2 dead, 7 missing as #CrisingPH, habagat hit 16 regions
Rains welcomed parts of Luzon on Monday due to the southwest monsoon or Habagat, which, along with the recent Severe Tropical Storm #CrisingPH, left at least two people dead, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). Authorities are also verifying reports of three more deaths. One person was confirmed injured, while four others are still being validated. Seven individuals remain missing. The NDRRMC said more than 800,000 people across 16 regions were affected by the bad weather. In response, the Department of Agriculture ordered immediate assistance for affected farmers and fisherfolk. Initial reports showed over 2,000 farmers were affected, with agricultural damage reaching more than ₱50 million in Western Visayas and MIMAROPA.

Passenger ship runs aground in Zamboanga City due to strong waves
A passenger boat ran aground along R.T. Lim Boulevard in Zamboanga City reportedly due to strong waves and winds brought by inclement weather. Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard responded immediately and are verifying whether the boat had passengers on board at that time and where it came from. Meanwhile, passengers aboard another vessel traveling to Zamboanga City from Isabela City, Basilan were distressed after the boat was battered by strong waves and winds accompanied by rainfall on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Some passengers were seen wearing life vests as a safety precaution. According to the uploader of the video, the vessel managed to dock safely at the Zamboanga City Port after sea conditions normalized. Strong winds and heavy rain also damaged several stalls at Paseo del Mar, a tourist destination, in Barangay Rio Hondo. The incident disrupted the livelihood of vendors in the area. Authorities are still assessing the damage to structures. Several trees were also uprooted and clearing operations were conducted immediately. Around 220 families were displaced because of strong waves, flooding, and uprooted trees caused by heavy rains and strong winds in the city. 'We see to it that appropriate responses are given to residents affected,' Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Head, Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, said. In Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, a landslide blocked a road in Purok Sapa Bayol, Barangay Malambuhangin. According to state weather bureau PAGASA, the inclement weather that affects Mindanao was due to the effects of the southwest monsoon (Habagat) being intensified by Tropical Storm #CrisingPH.

#CrisingPH may hit Northern Luzon by July 18, 2025
Tropical Depression #CrisingPH continues to move westward over the Philippine Sea and may bring heavy rains and strong winds to parts of Luzon and Visayas, including a possible landfall in Northern Luzon by Friday, July 18, 2025, according to PAGASA. As of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, #CrisingPH was located 725 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, carrying maximum winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h. #CrisingPH is forecast to track northwestward, possibly brushing or making landfall over Northern Luzon late Friday. PAGASA said further strengthening into a typhoon before landfall is not ruled out. The storm is expected to intensify into a Tropical Storm by Thursday, July 17, 2025, and may reach Severe Tropical Storm strength before nearing the Babuyan Islands or Cagayan province late Friday. Although no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals have been raised so far, the public is advised to prepare for heavy rains, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions in the coming days. #CRISINGPH AND HABAGAT TO BRING WIDESPREAD RAINS Crising is also enhancing the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), which will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains across several areas: Today to Thursday morning (July 17) – Up to 100 mm: Bicol Region (Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate) Eastern Visayas (Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran) Western Visayas and Palawan Thursday noon to Friday noon (July 18) – Up to 200 mm: Catanduanes, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Negros Occidental Up to 100 mm in Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Metro Manila, parts of CALABARZON and Visayas Friday noon to Saturday noon (July 19) – Up to 200 mm: Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Zambales, Bataan, Palawan, Antique Up to 100 mm in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Cordillera, and Western Visayas Rains may be stronger in mountainous areas, and the threat of floods and landslides is higher in places already soaked by previous rains. GUSTY WINDS AND ROUGH SEAS Strong to gale-force winds will also affect parts of the country due to the monsoon, especially coastal and high areas in Palawan, Camiguin, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands, expanding to other regions starting Thursday. Sea travel will be risky in many areas: Waves up to 2.5 meters in Palawan, Negros Oriental, Zamboanga del Norte Waves up to 2.0 meters in other parts of Visayas, Mindoro, and Mindanao Small boats and motorbancas are advised to stay in port. Residents and local governments in affected areas are advised to monitor advisories, prepare for possible evacuations, and coordinate with local disaster officials.
