2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Gets a New Face and More Screen
The Toyota Corolla Cross serves as the brand's entry-level crossover, and it's getting a few updates for the 2026 model year. Toyota has revamped the car's front fascia, differentiating between the gas and hybrid models, and made a few tweaks inside. The 2026 Corolla Cross Hybrid now has a color-matched grille, first teased last year . The gas-powered Corolla Cross gets a new, more rugged front fascia with larger openings and a thick bar at the top displaying the badge. Photo by: Toyota Toyota didn't make any powertrain changes to either variant. The hybrid remains the most powerful choice, making 196 horsepower combined, pairing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors. The gas-powered Corolla Cross has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 169 horsepower, connected to a continuously variable transmission. Inside, the Corolla Cross now features a 10.5-inch infotainment display that sits above a redesigned center console, which sits next to a 7.0- or 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, depending on trim. Toyota repositioned the buttons and ports, better separated the gear selector from the cupholders, and removed some upright trim pieces. It's a few small changes that make a big difference. Photo by: Toyota Toyota will offer the gas-powered Corolla in three trims for 2026: L, LE, and XLE. The Corolla Cross Hybrid will also have three trims available: S, SE, and XSE. New to the crossover for this model year is Cavalry Blue exterior paint. It's available on the LE, XLE, SE, and XSE, with a two-tone Jet Black combo available on the hybrid versions. There are also two new 18-inch wheel designs for select trims. Toyota didn't provide pricing for the 2026 Corolla Cross. The 2025 Corolla Cross starts at $25,485, including a $1,350 destination charge, for the entry-level L. The 2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid S, meanwhile, starts at $29,845. The automaker will release pricing closer to the crossover's on-sale date later this year. We expect modest increases across the board. Jeep Removed Almost All the Physical Buttons in the New Compass
Jeep finally unveiled the third-generation Compass, and nearly every part of the crossover is new. That's not surprising; the current-gen car was getting rather long in the tooth. The exterior styling is more angular than before, and there's a lot more technology inside, including a 16-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and capacitive, touch-sensitive switches throughout, replacing the outgoing SUV's old-fashioned buttons on the steering wheel and center stack. Is this the return to physical controls that carmakers have promised us? On one hand, at least there are switches of some sort in the new Compass. I'd argue that even touch-sensitive buttons are better than lumping every function and feature into the touchscreen's menus. But, while I haven't sat in the new Compass, I can't help but wonder how intuitive it'll be to live with. For conventional buttons, it typically takes nothing more than a firm push to make something happen. With capacitive switches, as increasingly more cars are using today, you need to apply just the right amount of pressure, and that can sometimes take one or two tries. Jeep pointed out during a presentation on the new Compass that its implementation will provide physical feedback, which pretty much sounds like the haptics that have been in smartphones for years. You're likely to feel a little 'pop' when you press something, and that should help confirm the action. But haptics won't help you find those functions without looking away from the road, as regular buttons do, so they're not really much of a solution. Stellantis 'This is a new technology that gives feedback. Being capacitive, we don't have any more gaps between the different functions,' said Daniele Calonaci, the head of design for Jeep's European division, during a presentation. He added that no more gaps means no more dust between the buttons, and that's difficult to argue against, but was it really an issue that owners complained about? We're talking about a Jeep, after all, not a Maybach. It sounds like a bigger issue will be having to take off your gloves to turn on the rear defroster on a cold winter morning. Interior annoyances aside, the new Compass looks pretty sleek. It falls in line with Jeep's current design language by adopting a short, angular seven-slot grille, rectangular headlights, and squared-off wheel arches. Out back, the lights feature an X motif that strangely reminds me of the new Dacia logo and a backlit 'Jeep' emblem on the hatch. Some of the more off-road-focused trims stand out with more outdoorsy styling. The new Compass measures about six inches longer than the last-gen model and three inches shorter than the recently discontinued Cherokee. Stellantis Buyers in Europe will have several powertrain types to choose from. Jeep detailed a 145-horsepower 48-volt hybrid, a 195-hp plug-in hybrid, and three EV variants with outputs ranging from 213 to a mighty 375 hp. Front-wheel drive comes standard, and all-wheel drive is available. Keep in mind that, as of writing, the third-gen Compass has only been announced for the European market. We're guessing it will make its way to the United States sooner or later, but details such as launch timing, specifications, and pricing haven't been announced by Jeep yet. When we asked the automaker about a timeline for domestic availability, a representative responded with the same statement Stellantis provided when the company confirmed it was halting activity at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario where the Compass is built, citing the need to reassess its product strategy to offer flexible powertrain options. Caitlin Clark effect: How much money did Iowa women's basketball earn in her final year?
Caitlin Clark effect: How much money did Iowa women's basketball earn in her final year? Show Caption Hide Caption Lisa Bluder weighs in on Caitlin Clark's WNBA success and current women's NCAA season Former Iowa women's basketball coach Lisa Bluder stops by to discuss life after basketball and her new partnership with Gamechanger. It's no secret that former Iowa Hawkeye Caitlin Clark has been the biggest name in women's sports the past few years. Her domination on the basketball court has drawn numerous new fans to women's basketball, both professional and collegiate. It also has drawn a lot of revenue to her organizations. The WNBA's Indiana Fever had the highest average attendance in the league during Clark's rookie season, averaging over 17,000 fans per home game, more than 4,000 higher than the next closest team – the New York Liberty. For perspective, the year before Clark's arrival, the Fever averaged 4,066 fans per home game. If Clark's sheer presence could do such wonders for a WNBA franchise, imagine her impact for her alma mater, the University of Iowa. As a Hawkeye, Clark brought the organization to new heights, reaching the NCAA Tournament finals each of her final two years, the furthest the Hawkeyes have ever reached. However, the university's 2024 fiscal-year statement shows that her biggest contribution came in the millions of dollars she brought to the school. The report showed that Iowa women's basketball revenue exceeded that of the men's team for the first time. Here are the most notable findings, per The Des Moines Register's Chad Leistikow. College Basketball News: UCLA remains at the top of coaches' poll The impact of the Crossover at Kinnick The women's basketball outdoor exhibition game against DePaul, held at Kinnick Field, on Oct. 15, 2024 did wonders for the team's popularity. In that game alone, Iowa drew 55,646 fans, a national record for women's basketball. While much of the proceeds for the game (approximately $250,000) were donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, at $10 a ticket for adults and $5 for fans 18 and under, the university still made massive profits from the event. Ticket sales rose by over 400% in two years During Clark's sophomore season at Iowa, the Hawkeyes women's basketball team generated $767,069 in ticket revenue. By Clark's senior season, they were generating $3,260,451, more than four times their totals from two seasons prior. While this success was obviously tremendous for the university, it did come at a minor cost to the men's basketball team, which saw its ticket revenue fall by 14.6% from $3,471,938 to $2,965,969 in that same two-year span. The interest in women's basketball has seemingly carried into the 2024-25 season as well. General public seating for the season sold out in late September 2024, possibly making Iowa women's basketball the most popular women's basketball program in the country even without Clark. Women's College Basketball News: Dawn Staley's gone and done it again at South Carolina, as Tennessee is latest victim Clark's popularity didn't come without its costs With Clark drawing fans to games hours before tipoff, additional security and staff needed to be hired. All in all, the university spent $1,709,387 to stage women's basketball games, more than six times what the defending national champions, LSU, spent for the same purpose ($258,000), and nearly three times more than the defending men's champions, UConn ($610,000). The Crossover at Kinnick alone cost the university six figures to stage the contest. While it wasn't as much as a football game, which cost Iowa an average of $421,212, it was still a costly expenditure compared to every other athletics department.
