Established 43 years ago, the centre is in serious financial crisis and must raise the remaining £151,000 by Friday, May 23 if it is to secure its future in the medium term. Brooke at Clwyd Special Riding Centre. Expert staff and volunteers deliver equine assisted therapy, education and inspirational experiences that champion inclusion and promote physical, emotional and social wellbeing for people of all ages with additional needs, such as nine-year-olds Brooke and Albert, and international para-dressage rider, Leonie Saffy. • Donations can be made via their Crowdfunder at: Trustee, Victoria Everall, whose mother Anne Sopwith founded the centre said: "Every pound buys us time but the clock is ticking. Every introduction to a potential corporate sponsor could change our future but we need their doors opening. "Clwyd Special Riding Centre is so much more than just a Riding for the Disabled centre. It offers a broad range of equine-assisted activities thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers and some incredible horses. Not all superheroes wear capes - some have hooves and huge hearts." As the only centre in North Wales delivering hippotherapy (specialist physiotherapy which utilises a horse's movement) and a programme called Changing Lives Through Horses, the centre empowers people of all ages with additional needs, be they physical or emotional. Joint centre manager, Caroline Dingwall, added: "Our position is perilous. If we do not reach our £365,000 target by Friday, May 23, the centre will be forced to close. We want to be totally transparent with our existing and potential supporters. We do not want donations to disappear into a black hole. If we don't reach our target, the centre will close, and all donations will be returned. "Clwyd Special Riding Centre is a sanctuary and crucial to the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of those who visit here every week. It is an inclusive, safe space where everyone is welcomed, seen, heard, valued and respected. "Sadly, we know closing our doors will have a lasting impact on our participants and we are all feeling the weight of that very deeply as we near our deadline."

Wrexham riding centre crisis funding appeal emergency update

Clwyd Special Riding Centre, based in Llanfynydd, near Wrexham, was facing closure from May 1, 2025, due to a funding shortfall. The centre, a registered charity, offers life-changing equine-assisted therapy to children and adults with a wide range of disabilities and additional needs. After an emotional appeal for support from the centre and the families it serves, enough money has been raised via a Crowdfunder, to allow the centre to continue. Read more: Family devastated at charity's potential closure over funds Trustee Victoria Everall, has today (April 30) given a positive update. She said: "First and foremost - thank you. Since launching our appeal, we have been overwhelmed by the incredible generosity, heartfelt messages, and practical offers of help we've received from every corner of our community and beyond. "It has been moving, humbling, and inspiring. "Thanks to the extraordinary response from our community, and the renewed interest generated by our recent open day, we have been offered a vital lifeline that allows us to remain open for the next two months." This development allows the team to extend their Crowdfunder campaign deadline, giving them more time to raise vital funds and strengthen the foundation needed for a sustainable future. Victoria added: "We know how uncertain the past week has been, and we are so grateful for the patience, resilience, and loyalty shown by our team and community." This extended window gives Clwyd Special Riding Centre the time and space to plan, and maintain the momentum they have built. The temporary reprieve is a moment to refocus and rebuild but not relax. In the coming weeks, they will be working with experienced advisors and passionate supporters to reshape how the centre operates, to ensure long-term sustainability. They have also received many offers of operational and strategic support. For now, they will continue to update their users and supporters on progress and next steps. • Anyone wishing to support Clwyd Special Riding Centre in their fundraising, can donate via their Crowdfunder:

Crowdfunder launched for independent bookstore in Perth

A Crowdfunder has been launched to help a Fife woman open an independent bookstore in Perth city centre. Monica Turoni, 49, opened Quokka Bookstore Ltd in January. The online book retailer is now eyeing up premises on George Street that would become Perth's only independent bookstore. She has launched a fundraiser with a target of £10,000 to help cover opening costs and a deposit. Monica aims to open her bookstore at the start of June. Monica, who has lived in Kirkcaldy for the past 10 years, says her favourite book is Persuasion by Jane Austen. She told The Courier why she has chosen Perth as the new home for Quokka Bookstore. 'I really like Perth,' she said. 'I researched different places to open the shop and decided on Perth because it's not huge but it's also not small. 'There's so much history and culture with the museums and the concert hall. 'It will be the most interesting place for what I want to do.' Monica says her book shop stocks novels for all ages, but primarily focuses on promoting reading among children and teenagers. She wants to deliver events and book talks at her new shop. 'I want to do things a little bit differently. 'An online bookstore doesn't allow you to do things like events or story times. 'I want to start a book club, something for teenagers who are often left behind. 'Even a silent reading book club, where they can gather together and share their interests but are not forced to read aloud. Monica has kickstarted a Crowdfunder to help cover the opening costs of her George Street shop. She has set a target to raise £10,000, but will apply for a loan if this figure is not met. 'There's a lot of costs involved at the beginning of opening a store,' she added. 'Instead of applying for a loan, I would like to be self-sufficient. 'When people make donations to the Crowdfunder, it will be acknowledged within the bookstore with a list of names on the wall. 'There will be other rewards like access to limited edition books and special editions. 'Another example is free membership for a whole year, so the person would receive a new book every month. 'It would be great if people could support my business because it's an independent bookstore. 'I want to do something a bit different and promote reading in children and young adults.' Elsewhere in Perth, a café and fashion store thanked customers while announcing its closure.
