Asda recalls sandals as illegal level of metal could cause 'adverse skin reaction'
The sandals may contain nickel levels that "exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations."
Asda shoppers are being urged to check if they have bought a certain pair of sandals recently. If they have, they are being urged to return them to store for a refund.
The supermarket's Ladies Double Buckle Flatbed Sandals have been urgently recalled as they contain illegal levels of metal, leading to possible "adverse skin reactions."
A notice on the firm's website explains that the shoes the recall was triggered after testing discovered nickel levels on the rivet part of the trim "exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations."
Sold as part of the grocer's George range and costing £12.50 per pair, the recall affects all sizes of the two colourways that were available - lilac and sage.
The full notice read: "We have initiated a product recall due to the presence of nickel found in the trims of some Lilac and Sage (pictured above) George Ladies double buckle flatbed sandals in All Sizes.
"Testing has confirmed that the rivet part of the trim may contain nickel levels that exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations. This may cause an adverse skin reaction to some customers."
Shoppers who have purchased the fashion item are being urged to return them to their nearest Asda store where they will be given a full refund, even without a receipt.
Asda has confirmed no other colours of the sandals aside from lilac and sage have been affected. Customers have also been urged to contact Customer Care Relations for further information on 0330 053 0111.
Speaking of its recall, Asda said: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused."
It's not the only recall to affect the high street recently, as a range of kids' clothing sold at both Next and Matalan has been pulled from shelves and parents being told to "cease use immediately."
The recall affects an assortment of girls' summer dresses and outfit sets from the Miss clothing range that "present risks of strangulation and choking."
An alert posted to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has advised that the affected items feature decorative draw cords that exceed the maximum permissible length.
Supermarkets have also been issuing product recalls recently, with Tesco recalling various packs of its Kind & Pure Facial Cleansing Wipes that were found to contain a bacteria that has been linked to multiple infections.
Unsatisfactory microbiological testing and detecting found the presence of a bacterium, Pluralibacter gergoviae, making the products potentially unsafe for use.
