Asda recalls sandals as illegal level of metal could cause 'adverse skin reaction'

Daily Record7 hours ago
The sandals may contain nickel levels that "exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations."
Asda shoppers are being urged to check if they have bought a certain pair of sandals recently. If they have, they are being urged to return them to store for a refund.

The supermarket's Ladies Double Buckle Flatbed Sandals have been urgently recalled as they contain illegal levels of metal, leading to possible "adverse skin reactions."

A notice on the firm's website explains that the shoes the recall was triggered after testing discovered nickel levels on the rivet part of the trim "exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations."

Sold as part of the grocer's George range and costing £12.50 per pair, the recall affects all sizes of the two colourways that were available - lilac and sage.
The full notice read: "We have initiated a product recall due to the presence of nickel found in the trims of some Lilac and Sage (pictured above) George Ladies double buckle flatbed sandals in All Sizes.
"Testing has confirmed that the rivet part of the trim may contain nickel levels that exceed the permissible limits under the REACH regulations. This may cause an adverse skin reaction to some customers."
Shoppers who have purchased the fashion item are being urged to return them to their nearest Asda store where they will be given a full refund, even without a receipt.
Asda has confirmed no other colours of the sandals aside from lilac and sage have been affected. Customers have also been urged to contact Customer Care Relations for further information on 0330 053 0111.

Speaking of its recall, Asda said: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused."
It's not the only recall to affect the high street recently, as a range of kids' clothing sold at both Next and Matalan has been pulled from shelves and parents being told to "cease use immediately."

The recall affects an assortment of girls' summer dresses and outfit sets from the Miss clothing range that "present risks of strangulation and choking."
An alert posted to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has advised that the affected items feature decorative draw cords that exceed the maximum permissible length.
Supermarkets have also been issuing product recalls recently, with Tesco recalling various packs of its Kind & Pure Facial Cleansing Wipes that were found to contain a bacteria that has been linked to multiple infections.

Unsatisfactory microbiological testing and detecting found the presence of a bacterium, Pluralibacter gergoviae, making the products potentially unsafe for use.

Emergency services race to crash involving car and motorbike in Edinburgh

Police and ambulance crews were called to Drum Brae Road North after the alarm was raised at around 6pm on Wednesday. Emergency services have raced to a crash involving a car and a motorbike in Edinburgh. ‌ Police and ambulance crews were called to Drum Brae Road North after the alarm was raised at around 6pm on Wednesday. The road has been closed in both directions as a result of the collision. ‌ In images shared with Edinburgh Live, three police vehicles and four ambulances can be seen in attendance. Paramedics were attending to a male on the ground and were seen escorting the man to an ambulance via stretcher. ‌ Officers at the scene were also seen speaking to motorists on the northbound lane while their colleagues directed traffic at either end of the road. A motorbike could be seen badly damaged lying on the pavement of the southbound side of the road. One eye witness said: "There were a lot of people standing looking on, it looked really nasty and I just hope everyone is ok. Traffic was a bit chaotic in the area as its a well used route for people getting onto Queensferry Road. "Police were interviewing people in their cars as well as residents of the street. The motorbike looked in a bad way." The witness said that a white screen had been erected while paramedics tended to the male who was lying on the road. Police Scotland have been asked for comment. EastEnders' George Knight's 'death sealed' as disturbing storyline 'begins'

George Knight may have landed himself in trouble on the Square during tonight's EastEnders, as dealer Okie said he could make the boxer 'disappear' if he needed to George Knight was left reeling in tonight's EastEnders, as he tried to find out who had given his younger brother Kojo drugs - but he may have landed himself in big trouble, as Okie made it clear that he wanted him gone. ‌ Last night, George found his brother lying on a bench, after Okie had given him a pill to 'calm down'. During tonight's episode, the former Queen Vic landlord enlisted the help of Albert Square police officer Jack, who said he'd have to arrest Kojo. ‌ George tried to convince Jack not to take things further, but whether he will do, is still unknown. Although Kojo may be safe, it doesn't look like the same thing can be said for George. The worrying storyline comes after Colin Salmon teased he'd be part of a 'disturbing storyline' during an interview on Good Morning Britain last week. ‌ With Kojo not revealing who he got the pill from, George was certain Harry was the culprit, as he marched over to Harry's Barn to confront him. The confrontation turned violent, with the boxer strangling Nicola's son, as he could barely breathe. Nicola and Teddy convinced George to let go of their son, but George wasn't letting things go. "I know you were involved in this somehow," he said. "I can see it on your face. Don't try and deny it. Know that I will find out the truth, yeah?" he said, before storming out of the establishment. A fuming Harry later confronted Okie, scolding him for giving the pills to Kojo, but it was Okie who lost his temper in later scenes - as he asked Harry where George lived. Of course, Harry didn't let slip. ‌ "So we're just going to let him mouth off to the public?", Okie exclaimed. "What do you think Ravi's going to do when he finds out the feds are on us again?" "All I'm saying is you don't know him and what he's capable of," Harry responded. "You don't know what I'm capable off!" Okie exclaimed. "So if this Kojo's brother's going to become a problem, we're going to have to make him disappear," he said, as he showed off a gun under his belt. But could this be the end for George? Some fans think so. ‌ Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one wrote: "They've hinted a potential death or prison exit tonight for George - He's already on a suspended sentence so he wouldn't want to take the risk of attacking Okie in case he ends up in prison or worse case scenario dead." "Depending on how nebulous this Kojo/Harry/George/Ravi story is will Phil get involved later down the line? Julies taking over with Nigel and if something happens to George, Phil could come into it?", questioned another. Another tweet read: "They've hinted tonight that George could end up dead - or seriously hurt but I hope this doesn't happen. Although once the police get hold of Harry it won't be long until the feds close in on Okie and Ravi again. I'm intrigued by Ravi's next move here." Last week, during his GMB interview, George teased: "We've got another storyline you haven't seen before. I did the farming storyline, we have another storyline that is perfect for this time, it's real, it's really disturbing and it's coming. I can't tell you what it is." Could this be the beginning of the end?

Migrant protests, Farage's footy shirt, and more rail fare fury

Do you agree with our readers? Have your say on these MetroTalk topics and more in the comments. The disgraceful injunction (Metro, Wed) issued against housing asylum seekers in the Bell Hotel, Epping, must be appealed against. Epping Forest district council sought the court order after the hotel became the centre for protests and counter-protests. An asylum seeker staying there has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl, who he was said to have tried to kiss. The council said the hotel had been the 'catalyst' for 'an increase in community tension'. Its owner plans to appeal. In effect, the injunction allows racists and fascists to arrange violent protests to get refugees moved out of any hotel in any part of the country. We are a tolerant country despite this small violent group urged on by minor but mouthy politicians such as Nigel Farage. Epping council, shame on you. George, via email George (MetroTalk, Tue) says the government encouraging police forces to release the ethnicity of suspects is a 'pathetic capitulation to far-right mobs'. Can he name one group or a political entity in this country that's 'far right'? Or is he just parroting the 'far right' narrative that's starting to get tedious? The term 'far right' is often spouted yet the ones spouting it never name a specific group. And how come the 'far left' is never mentioned, as it does exist? The protests in Epping are about safety for women and girls – you know, the very thing Jess Phillips, the minister for violence against women and girls, campaigns for yet has been very quiet on since these protests started. And why do these pro-migrant and refugee counter-protesters always have their faces covered? If you're passionate about your cause, show us who you are – otherwise it appears you're hiding your face for nefarious reasons. Also, to answer George's question about whether police will release the ethnicity of the Liverpool fan who racially abused Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, there's no need to. It was caught on camera and everyone saw who he was. Sounds like he's picking an argument for the sake of it. Jon, Birmingham Your report on the property tax proposal was very one-sided. Why is it worse to pay a tax on selling a house as opposed to when buying it? Capital gains tax on an increase in value is a tax on wealth that is unearned and unavailable to those who do not own their homes. Your article quotes the disapproving TaxPayers' Alliance, a shady junktank funded by large corporations, not individual taxpayers. James Murray-Smith, Muswell Hill Remember the outcry when Team GB had a flag of different colours before last year's Olympics? Nigel Farage erupted at the thought of such a thing. Yet his new Reform UK 'football shirt' has a plain white union flag. The irony is not lost on me. Neil Dance, Birmingham Further to the 5.5 per cent rise in rail fares coming down the track and Angela's view (MetroTalk, Wed) that this constitutes a 'declaration of war on commuters'. The country is living beyond its means yet there is infinite demand on government funds. It would be more of a story if it was decided fares were not going up and unrealistic to expect commuting be made cheaper and take priority over the NHS, education and pensions. If you do not get the service you pay for as a passenger, you can obtain compensation for severe delays. And while Angela is right to resent the renumeration of bosses for a job with no element of risk, this is a tiny proportion of the total budget and not the reason for high fares. Adrian (MetroTalk, Wed), meanwhile, says those who do not use public transport should be made to subsidise buses and trains to drive down prices and encourage their greater use – but these already enjoy taxpayer subsidy. More Trending And what about balancing fairness to taxpayers in rural areas where public transport is scarce? Rupert Fast, Esher I was disappointed with the commemorations for VJ Day compared with VE Day. Bearing in mind the brutality and conditions faced by those fighting against such a fanatical enemy in the Pacific, as a country we must not let them become the forgotten army. Dave, Sutton-in-Ashfield Why is there so much litter on our streets? It's everywhere. We are happy to pick up dog poo but not litter. Get a grip, people. Bin the bottle, can the can, scrap the wrapper. Do your little bit to keep Britain tidy because at the moment it's just rubbish.
