Man linked to int'l cyber fraud syndicate arrested

Jaipur: A 24-year-old man suspected of laundering funds for a transnational cyber fraud syndicate was arrested in Jaipur, marking a major breakthrough under the city police's 'Cyber Shield' operation. The accused, Ajay Kumar of Ajit Colony, Jodhpur, is believed to be an active link in the TINBO cybercrime network—a global racket that defrauded victims across several Indian states. The arrest followed an intelligence-led raid on July 16 at a restaurant on Meera Marg. Kumar was apprehended at the Colava Multi Cuisine Restaurant, located above Hotel Palmtown, after he was seen behaving suspiciously. The police recovered Rs 71,220, 13 ATM and debit cards, eight SIM cards, two mobile phones containing incriminating chats, and a bank passbook. According to SHO Rajendra Godara (Shiprapath Police Station), Kumar's arrest was the result of a focused investigation under the supervision of DCP (South) Digant Anand. Police said the seized ATM cards were linked to 51 cyber fraud complaints filed across India, as verified through the national 1930 Cyber Portal. Investigators suspect the syndicate's reach may be far wider, with multiple operatives using similar laundering methods. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read More Undo Kumar is alleged to have operated as a commission agent for TINBO, procuring bank accounts and SIM cards from various individuals. He shared these credentials with handlers on WhatsApp. Once scam proceeds were deposited, he would withdraw the funds, convert them into cryptocurrency (mainly USDT), and relay the money via wallet addresses or QR codes provided by the syndicate. In return, he received a 7% cut of each transaction. "This was no innocent middleman. He was fully aware of the criminal proceeds and played an active role in laundering the money," said SHO Godara. Kumar was booked under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to police custody until July 21. Investigators said further arrests are likely as digital forensic teams analyse seized data. Police have issued a public warning against falling for unsolicited financial offers, particularly those circulated via Telegram, WhatsApp, and social media platforms.

Cyber Fraud Busted: Mastermind Who Duped Thousands Over Calls Nabbed In Rajasthan With Rs 99 Crore In Bank

Investigators say fraudsters used WhatsApp, social media, and fake websites—posing as bank staff or police—to extort money from those seeking quick earnings and high returns In a major breakthrough, Sri Ganganagar Police have busted a massive cyber fraud racket worth Rs 2,000 crore, arresting the prime accused, Krishna Sharma, from Kharda village in Rajasthan's Bikaner. According to the preliminary investigation, the network—operating across multiple states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and West Bengal—is accused of duping thousands of people through fake investment schemes, cryptocurrency scams, and bogus lucky draws. According to investigators, the fraudsters used WhatsApp calls, social media, and fake websites to lure victims—often impersonating bank officials or police to extort money. The racket preyed on those looking for quick earnings and lucrative returns. The investigation revealed that Sharma's bank account showed transactions worth Rs 99,65,47,938 linked to various cyber fraud incidents. The police acted on secret information about large-scale cyber frauds being conducted nationwide. Following a thorough investigation, they apprehended Krishna Sharma in a raid conducted in Kharda village in Bikaner. Sri Ganganagar Police have taken action under the 'Cyber Shield' initiative, identifying over 75 bank accounts with fake transactions worth Rs 51.81 crore. Complaints regarding these accounts have been received from more than 20 states, including Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra. Several electronic devices, mobile phones, and SIM cards used in the racket have been seized. SP Gaurav Yadav shared that some private bank employees are suspected of involvement in issuing ATM and passbook kits for fake accounts without proper verification.
