Arab Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Committee Discusses a Number of Regional Initiatives
INA- SOURCES
The Arab Cybersecurity Governance and Policy Committee, operating under the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers, convened today, Tuesday, to discuss a number of regional initiatives.
In a statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the committee announced that it had held its meeting under the chairmanship of the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of representatives from relevant cybersecurity agencies across Arab states, the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers, and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States. The meeting addressed a number of initiatives proposed by member states for the first regular session of the Council.
The committee reviewed the proposed Cybersecurity Terminology Glossary initiative, the committee's upcoming work plan, and the Policies and Governance Program, which includes a set of cybersecurity policies, frameworks, and standards designed to confront emerging cyber threats across the Arab region.
It was further noted that the Governance and Cybersecurity Policy Committee, established pursuant to a resolution of the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers during its first regular session held in Riyadh in 2024, is responsible for proposing unified Arab policies, legislation, regulations, systems, and standards related to cybersecurity. The committee also undertakes the preparation of studies, research, strategies, initiatives, and projects, as well as the review of international cybersecurity policy developments that may impact regulatory frameworks in Arab countries.
It is worth noting that the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers consists of the Arab ministers responsible for cybersecurity. Its charter was ratified by a resolution of the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level. Operating under the umbrella of the League, the Council is tasked with formulating public policies, setting strategies and priorities for advancing joint Arab efforts in the field of cybersecurity, and addressing cybersecurity issues and developments across the security, economic, developmental, and legislative domains. It also approves joint Arab action plans to implement the Council's adopted policies and strategies.
