Thousands gather as Oasis play first Scottish gig in 16 years

Thousands of fans have gathered in Edinburgh as Oasis kick off three highly anticipated shows in the city. The Mancunian rockers will return to Scotland for the first time in 16 years for three sold-out shows at Murrayfield on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday. While their exact setlist has not been revealed, on previous dates, the band has performed classics such as Wonderwall, as well as Morning Glory, Talk Tonight, D'you Know What I Mean?, and Don't Look Back in Anger. Fans have been 'counting down the days' since they were lucky enough to secure tickets after Oasis announced their return. Four women, who travelled from the North East, first saw the band in Loch Lomond and have been fans for almost 30 years. ScotRail has announced several extra services operating to and from Edinburgh to cope with the number of fans travelling to the concert. The railway operator also says it is increasing capacity on its services, in a bid to ensure no one is stuck for transportation before and after the show. The concerts come amid a busy period for the city with the Fringe under way. In a short message posted on X ahead of the concert, the band, led by Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel, said: 'Edinburgh. Are you ready?' The post gained more than 10,000 likes and legions of fans responded in turn, stating they cannot wait to see them perform at the stadium. The band has recently performed in a number of cities including Cardiff and London. The group will next head to Ireland, before moving on to Canada, the US, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and South America. Ice hockey coach Teddy Cheesebourgh, 51, and photographer wife Carle, 50, got married in Scotland in 2003 - and spent £150 each on tickets to see them in Edinburgh. And the pair - who have already seen the band six times - can't wait to catch them at Murrayfield on Saturday. Teddy said: "We've come four thousand miles. We've been waiting for this for more than a decade. "The last time we saw them was in Minnesota in 2008. With three guitarists and a bass guitar they are going to plug in and just hammer it. "To be at Murrayfield to be with the wild Scottish fans. We can't wait." Denisa, 28, a designer from Florence, Italy, and has travelled to Scotland with pals to see the band's first Scottish gig. Carys Edwards, 25, and her brother, flood risk engineer Garin Edwards, 27, travelled from Aberdare in Wales for Friday's gig. Carys said: "We paid just under £397 each for the tickets and £700 each for flights and accommodation. They are our band. We plan to get there early." Train driver Roger Eriksson and his wife market manager Linnea, both 38, are from the north of Sweden and went to the shop to collect a VIP package that came with their tickets and spent £100 in the store.
