Cops bust online gambling call centre in Jalan Tun Razak, 30 nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled an online gambling call centre following a raid at an office building in Jalan Tun Razak here. City Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a team comprising personnel from Wangsa Maju and Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department Anti-Vice, Secret Societies and Gambling (D7) Unit raided the office at 11.30am today. "They arrested 30 suspects involving 23 local men, six local women and a man from China. "The suspects are aged between 20 and 27," he said today. He said intelligence and investigations suggest the suspects were involved in operating an online gambling call centre at the premises. "We seized 30 computer monitors, 60 mobile phones, two routers, a modem and an access card. "We believe this syndicate was targetting gamblers from China," he said, adding that they believed the group has been active for the last two months. He said police believe that the syndicate was led by a man from China who remains at large. "The suspects will be brought to the Wangsa Maju police headquarters for processing. "We have opened investigations under Section 4(1)(g) of the Common Gaming Houses Act for anouncing or publishing any place as being used as common gaming house," he said. Those convicted may be fined between RM5,000 and RM50,000, and may also face imprisonment for up to three years. Additionally, they are liable to a further fine of between RM5,000 and RM50,000 for each gaming machine seized. Rusdi urged anyone with information on similar activities to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station.

20 held in illegal KTV lounge raid catering only to Myanmar nationals

KUALA LUMPUR: A KTV-style entertainment outlet operating illegally in Bandar Manjalara was found offering two private karaoke rooms exclusively for Myanmar nationals. The outlet also provided guest relation officer (GRO) services to foreign patrons. The operation was uncovered during Op Noda, a raid conducted by the Kuala Lumpur police Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) at 12.10am. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said 20 Myanmar nationals, aged between 18 and 39, were arrested during the raid. "They included seven women suspected of working as GROs, a caretaker, another employee, and 11 male customers," he said in a statement today. Police also seized audio equipment, a decoder, tablets, alcoholic beverages, sales receipt books, and cash. Preliminary investigations revealed that the outlet had no business licence and was employing undocumented foreign workers. Rusdi said the outlet operated as a KTV karaoke lounge and catered exclusively to Myanmar nationals. "Some of the foreign detainees were found to have overstayed their social visit passes or were without valid identification documents," he added. The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Section 76 of the Excise Act 1976, and Section 4(1) of the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur Entertainment Act 1992.

(PDRM pic) PETALING JAYA : Scores of gamblers engrossed in cockfighting and illegal lottery activities were arrested after a raid in a forested area near Sungai Buloh Hospital last Sunday. A total of 124 people, comprising 46 Malaysians and 78 foreigners, were arrested during the operation, Berita Harian reported. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department (CID) deputy director (intelligence/operations) Fadil Marsus said the team conducted aerial surveillance with drones before launching a surprise raid on the gambling site located deep within the forest. He said the team had been gathering intelligence since the illegal gambling activities, including cockfighting, 'bola golek' (a gambling board game) and unlicensed public lotteries, started last October. To enter the forest, the raiding team, which included anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7) officers, the CID's K9 unit, and the Putrajaya veterinary department, used an unmarked dirt road guided by drone surveillance information. The team also confiscated 52 live chickens, seven dead chickens, 17 steel cockfighting spurs, a weighing scale used in cockfighting, gambling equipment for 'bola golek' and RM145,855 in cash. Fadil said six Indonesians suspected of organising the cockfights, and a Malaysian suspected of organising the illegal lottery, were among those detained. He said police have opened investigation papers under the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953, the Animal Welfare Act 2015, and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
