After Superman's Box Office Success, James Gunn Unveils First Supergirl Poster

Last Updated: In the poster, Supergirl is casually seen sipping a drink and standing right next to the iconic logo of the character. James Gunn is giving fans a fresh, bold take on Supergirl, and it is far from anything expected. Following the release of David Corenswet-led Superman, the director released the first poster of Supergirl, and it is already turning heads. Towards the end of Superman, fans got a glimpse of the new superheroine. The scene shows a 'drunk" Supergirl at the Fortress of Solitude, trying to get her dog, Krypto, back from Superman. Taking to his social media account on Wednesday, July 16, the renowned director dropped the first poster for Supergirl, which perfectly captures her rebellious spirit. In it, Supergirl is casually seen sipping on some drink, standing right next to the iconic logo of the characters, which says 'Look Out," totally opposite to Superman's 'Look Up" tagline. The film will star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. In a conversation with ScreenRant, James Gunn revealed that the new version of Supergirl is going to be a complete 'mess." He discussed how the DCU's version of Supergirl differs significantly from Superman, and also highlighted how their backgrounds shape their stories. When asked if the viewers will meet the 'messy" version of Supergirl in the upcoming film, the director said, 'Yeah, that's her. She's a mess. She's a total mess." He added, 'I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background. He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents who loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different from that. And she's ended up different from her cousin." Meanwhile, in an interview with ComicBook, the DC co-head discussed Milly Alcock's version of Supergirl, noting how this version of the superheroine differs from others. Instead of presenting her as the cheerful cousin of Superman on Earth, they have taken a different approach by telling her emotional backstory, where she fights her own battles. He said, '(Flashbacks to Krypton are) always a possibility. But I think those things are really integral to the two characters and the differences between them, and that Clark really does have sort of this really happy childhood." The Superman director continued, 'And Supergirl, especially the DCU Supergirl, she's kind of a mess. I mean, she's, she's had real issues growing up. And it is based on the comic where she watched person after person after person dying in front of her as her piece of the planet disintegrated." Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl will be based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. Besides Milly, it will also feature Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The film is scheduled for release in theatres in June 2026. Superman 2025 ending scene shows House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock debut as Supergirl

James Gunn's Superman finally hit cinemas on July 11, and while most of the spotlight went to David Corenswet's fresh take on the Man of Steel, fans got an unexpected gift right at the end, a chaotic and hilarious introduction to Supergirl, played by House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock. Her appearance confirms what many had suspected for months: Alcock is the new Kara Zor-El in the DCU, and she will play a much bigger role in the next chapter of this reimagined universe. But before she takes flight in her solo film, Gunn gave fans a sneak peek at her wild side in the final moments of Superman. Supergirl shows up at the Fortress of Solitude After the main battle ends and Superman saves both Metropolis and Jarhanpur, he heads back to the Fortress of Solitude for some peace and quiet. But the calm doesn't last long. A loud crash echoes through the icy walls, and in walks a slightly drunk Supergirl, demanding to know where her dog is. I NEED TO SEE SUPERGIRL (2026) IMMEDIATELY #Superman That dog, of course, is Krypto, the superpowered pup who's been tagging along with Superman the whole movie. Now we know he isn't actually Clark's pet, but Kara's. Still dressed in her classic red skirt and blue top but wearing a brown jacket instead of her cape, Supergirl immediately wrestles with Krypto in a wild, playful moment. Superman just shakes his head and tells his robots, 'She likes to party on planets with red suns. Because we can't get drunk under yellow ones.' It's a short scene, but it gives us a clear look at this version of Kara — unpredictable, funny, and already full of personality. A nod to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow The scene is a direct reference to the 2021 comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is also the basis for Alcock's upcoming solo film. In the comic, Kara travels across the galaxy with Krypto, celebrating her 21st birthday and trying to get drunk — something only possible on red sun planets. The film version seems to be following that same vibe. Gunn has described the DCU Supergirl as someone who's 'kind of a mess,' shaped by tragedy and tough experiences growing up. She's watched her people die, lost her home, and now carries the weight of that trauma into adulthood. That sets her apart from Superman, whose life on Earth gave him stability. Their dynamic, which is already hinted at in their playful banter, should be even more exciting when they share more screen time in future DCU films. Supergirl movie releases next year Supergirl's solo film is set to arrive in theatres on 26th July 2026, and it will pick up where this cameo leaves off. The story will follow Kara as she travels the galaxy with Krypto, meets a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, and goes on a violent quest for revenge. Milly Alcock's Supergirl is gonna be Generational 🔥 Eve Ridley, seen in 3 Body Problem, will play Ruthye. The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts (The Regime), David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer), Emily Beecham (The Pursuit of Love), and even a cameo from Jason Momoa as Lobo. Milly Alcock had remained tight-lipped about her role during interviews, simply saying she 'can't speak' and doesn't 'want to get sued.' But now the secret is out, and the DCU has officially welcomed its next major hero.

A Campaign Emerges For An ‘Andor'-Sourced Wonder Woman

Andor Andor has finally started airing its second season after several years, and with it comes the return of all its fan-favorite characters, including Adria Arjona's Bix Caleen. Arjona's Bix made headlines this past week as she fought off (content warning) a sexual assault by an Imperial officer, with the first time the word 'rape' appears to been uttered in Star Wars history. Some say this is a sign of Andor continuing to tackle tough issues the rest of Star Wars doesn't, and others think that shouldn't be a topic touched on in Star Wars at all, ever. But now that Andor has returned and Arjona is back in the conversation, we're seeing a new movement that says that she should be cast as the DCU's Wonder Woman, to the point where she's been asked about it, and recently told CinemaBlend: She's referring to The Belko Experiment, the 2016 thriller that was written by James Gunn. But this is sort of the point. In addition to simply…looking like a potential Wonder Woman, she already has a connection to James Gunn, who has been known to cast actors through such personal connections. She is also dating Jason Momoa, who is already suiting up to play Lobo in the upcoming DCU Supergirl movie, with more planned past that, most likely. LONDON, ENGLAND - APRIL 10: Adria Arjona attends the "Andor" Season Two UK Sneak Peek at Lightroom ... More on April 10, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) It's often said that fancasting doesn't work, but it's already worked once in the DCU for a major Justice League role. That would be the case of Aaron Pierre, who starred in the excellent Rebel Ridge on Netflix, which caused many to say he seemed like a perfect John Stewart. A month later, after a series of auditions, he was cast in Green Lantern and is about to star in his own HBO show. I've seen some pushback about Adria Arjona not being Greek (she was born in Puerto Rico), but the last two major Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot and the famed Lynda Carter, were not either. I don't think this is going to be a necessary consideration. The one catch for all of this is…is the DCU even casting a Wonder Woman any time remotely soon? None of the upcoming projects we know about seem to be including Wonder Woman. There is supposed to be a show called Paradise Lost set in Themyscira planned in the DCU, but it would take place before Wonder Woman existed as a hero. So the DCU simply may not need a Wonder Woman for a long while, whether Arjona is great for the part or not.
