NOU to revise study materials for UGC recognition
Patna: Nalanda Open University (NOU), Bihar's sole provider of distance education, on Saturday resolved to upgrade its self-learning materials (SLMs) across subjects in line with the requirements of the University Grants Commission's Distance Education Bureau (DEB). The decision was taken at a meeting of subject coordinators held at the university's headquarters in Nalanda, chaired by vice-chancellor Rabindra Kumar. Participants discussed the shortcomings of the current study materials and agreed to revise them with the help of experienced academics, incorporating recommendations from the National Education Policy 2020. Addressing the gathering, the vice-chancellor said study materials must align with the choice-based credit system (CBCS) syllabi. NOU has already implemented the semester system in most courses. He added that DEB will only recognise the university's undergraduate courses if the SLMs are thoroughly upgraded to match the quality of other advanced institutions in India. Former vice-chancellor of NOU and Patna University, Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, who attended as chief guest, expressed concern that no students had been admitted to undergraduate courses due to substandard materials. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why seniors are rushing to get this Internet box – here's why! NOU starts admission process to PG, other courses
Patna: Following the recognition of its courses by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of UGC, the Nalanda Open University (NOU) has initiated the process of admission of students to its certificate, diploma and postgraduate courses in the current academic session. The last date for submission of applications for admission to these courses is Aug 30. However, the last date for submission of applications for admission to the MCA (master in computer applications) course is July 30. While there are a large number of seats in all other courses, there are only 140 seats in MCA course from the current session, said NOU's media in charge Pallavi. Admission to the MCA course will be held on the basis of an entrance test and interview, to be conducted by the university after the last date of submission of applications. Only those candidates will be eligible to apply for admission to the MCA course who possess BCA or bachelor degree in computer science engineering or equivalent degree or BA/BSc/BCom degree with mathematics at the 10+2 stage. As there is a huge demand for MCA course in the information technology sector, students having general graduation degree (having studied mathematics at least at +2 level) can be admitted to this course provided they qualify in the entrance test and interview. Meanwhile, the university's postgraduate examinations of 2025 are scheduled to commence from July 11 as announced earlier. All necessary arrangements for holding the examinations in a fair and peaceful manner have been made. Students coming from outside may be allowed to reside in hostels for the period of examinations on prior permission of the authorities, she added.
