Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring Pawan Kalyan, faced VFX criticism. Director Jyothi Krisna admitted flaws but defended the story.
Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring Pawan Kalyan, has been facing sharp criticism since its release mainly for its patchy VFX. Now, one of the film's directors, Jyothi Krisna, has responded to the backlash and admitted that he knew some visual effects in the film weren't quite up to the mark.
The film, directed by Krish and Jyothi Krisna, released in theatres last Friday, with paid premieres held earlier on Wednesday. It stars Pawan Kalyan as Veera Mallu, Nidhhi Agerwal as Panchami, and Bobby Deol as Aurangzeb.
Speaking to ABN in a recent interview, Jyothi said the issues people are pointing out are 'minor". 'Anyone will troll only those who are in the limelight. People only get views when they write about something famous. I do not take any of the negativity to heart. Every single day, I see something negative being written about Hari Hara Veera Mallu. This is not the first time a film has taken this long to produce."
He added, 'When they nitpicked, all they could find was that the CGI and VFX were bad in some places. No one could point out the story and screenplay, or say it's boring, or that they can't understand it. There are 4400 shots in the film that required CGI. I knew in my heart that a few shots weren't up to par, but it wasn't something huge. We needed to hold special premieres for which tickets were sold out, and they turned that minor issue into something major."
The film reportedly has over 4,400 VFX shots. Despite the criticism, it has done well at the box office, crossing Rs 100 crore in just four days. Over the weekend, an updated version of the film, with some of the bad VFX trimmed or removed, started playing in theatres.

The most significant changes were made to the film's climax. Originally, it featured a face-off between Pawan Kalyan's Veera Mallu and Bobby Deol's Aurangzeb in the middle of a tornado. That entire sequence has been removed. The film now features the scene where Aurangzeb says, 'Aandhi vachesindi (The storm is here)" while Veera Mallu rides in.
The film ends with teasing the sequel to HHVM, titled Yuddhabhoomi or Battlefield, which will continue the story.
