Foundation stone laid for IISc staff housing complex
Nayakanahatti/DHNS: Ensuring all basic facilities for the staff of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is the utmost priority, said Skill Development Centre co-ordinator B Subba Reddy. He was speaking after laying a foundation stone for the IISC staff residential complex to be built at Rs 20 crore at Khudapura near Nayakanahatti on Thursday. The IISc-Skill Development Centre (IISc-SDC) launched in 2011 is one of the premiere institutes training students on basic estimated 20,000 teachers of high school and PU classes from all over the country including those from Union Territories too have been trained by the IISc-SDC. In this view, providing accommodation to these teachers and staff was one of the priorities. Hence, an accommodation complex housing 48 houses will be built at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Reddy laid the foundation stone for the housing a 10 km long ring road along with 4.3 km concrete road is being built at the 1,500 acre IISc campus. Teachers coming here training will be provided with electric vehicles to move around the campus. Besides, facilities like gym, quality food, medical and ambulance facilities too have been provided, he informed. Faculty, Prof Kishore, Prof Raghavendra, engineer Hemanth, CPWD A E Rajagopal and executive engineer Ashawathaiah were present.

Hold eco-friendly Ganeshotsav at home, get digital certificate
Hubballi/DHNS: To encourage citizens to celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi at households in an eco-friendly manner, the civic body has decided to issue digital certificates to those who install clay idols. It has also decided to award prizes to those who immerse idols at home and use the same clay to plant a the authorities have already taken measures to check the use of banned Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, by conducting raids on shops and seizing such idols, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is launching 'Prakruti Ganeshotsav' to encourage the installation of clay idols and decoration using natural initiative also includes activities to raise better awareness regarding the banned single-use plastic, and the recycling of plastic confidence that citizens would voluntarily celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly manner if proper awareness is created and encouragement is given, Mayor Jyothi Patil stated that the unique initiative of 'Prakruti Ganeshotsav' is also aimed at reducing the quantity of waste generated during the festival, especially non-recyclable to HDMC officials, more than 100 tonnes of additional waste is generated in the twin cities during the festivals. Dist admin gears up to celebrate Ganesha fest in eco-friendly way
Dharwad/DHNS: With the Ganesha festival nearing, the district administration has put over a dozen departments on their toes, in a bid to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly the years, it has been observed that the PoP idols from neighbouring Maharashtra arrive in the district in a big way. There has been a ban on PoP idols in state and also use of artificial colours, but the idol-makers were accused of hoodwinking the officials and preparing the idols in isolated places. However, the district administration has come up with a series of measures this time to see that only clay idols are installed and natural colours are Commissioner Divya Prabhu stated that under no circumstances, the sale of PoP Ganesha idols be allowed in the district. The officials should conduct surprise raids on workshops and stalls selling Ganesha idols and seize all the PoP idols, she said.'Our devotion should not become a threat to the environment. Our worship should not become a curse for the next generation,' she said, urging everyone to act prevent POP idols from entering the city and towns from other districts, check-posts must be set up at district and urban borders. These posts should be staffed not onlyby police but also by officers and staff from other departments. Police must not be negligent in inspecting and seizing PoP Ganesha idols. Any police officer found neglecting the rules will face disciplinary action, the DC said awareness campaigns are being conducted to ensure that PoP idols are not sold or used by the public in the district. Ola under fire in Bengaluru for fare disputes on auto bookings
