Haryana's senior officers told to enforce rules on unlawful conversion
Chandigarh: Haryana additional chief secretary (home) Sumita Misra on Tuesday directed all deputy commissioners, commissioners of police, senior superintendents of police, and SPs to strictly enforce provisions of the Haryana Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act and Rules, 2022. In cases where the individual to be converted is a minor, both parents or the surviving parent are required to submit a declaration in Form B. Additionally, any religious priest or person organising a conversion ceremony must provide prior notice in Form C to the deputy commissioner of the district where the conversion is planned. Upon receiving such declarations or notices, the DC will acknowledge them by issuing a receipt, ensuring formal documentation and transparency of the conversion process. She said govt's intention was not to interfere with individual freedom of religion, but to safeguard citizens from deception, coercion, or unlawful inducement. Misra said the law prohibited any person from converting or attempting to convert another person from one religion to another through misrepresentation, force, threat, undue influence, allurement, or fraudulent means (including digital modes). It also prohibits conversion by or for marriage. The spokesperson said unlawful conversion carried a punishment of imprisonment for a term of one to five years and a fine of not less than Rs 1 lakh. If a person conceals their religion to marry, the punishment is imprisonment for 3-10 years and a fine of not less than Rs 3 lakh. Conversion of a minor, a woman, or a person from a scheduled caste or tribe results in imprisonment for 4-10 years and a fine of not less than Rs 3 lakh, she said. Mass conversion, defined as the conversion of more than two people at the same time, is punishable with imprisonment for 5-10 years and a fine of not less than Rs 4 lakh.

Mining task force steps up surveillance, raids in JSR
1 2 Jamshedpur: Acting on the direction of DC Karn Satyarthi, the district mining task force has increased surveillance and raids to curb illegal mining, stocking and transportation of natural minerals. In the last six days, the task force has seized four trucks that were ferrying sand and stone chips illegally. Two trucks were seized from Mango and Kowali police station limits on July 29 and the other two trucks were seized from Azadnagar and Kadma police station limits on August 2 respectively. In all the four seizures, FIR have been lodged in accordance with the provisions of the Jharkhand Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules 2017. District mining officer, Satish Nayak said that random raids at the suspected stocking sites and checking of documents of vehicles ferrying minerals is being done with greater frequency. Notably, the DC has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace at which the task force is doing its work in curbing illegal activities pertaining to mining and transportation of minerals. Dharwad/DHNS: With the Ganesha festival nearing, the district administration has put over a dozen departments on their toes, in a bid to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly the years, it has been observed that the PoP idols from neighbouring Maharashtra arrive in the district in a big way. There has been a ban on PoP idols in state and also use of artificial colours, but the idol-makers were accused of hoodwinking the officials and preparing the idols in isolated places. However, the district administration has come up with a series of measures this time to see that only clay idols are installed and natural colours are Commissioner Divya Prabhu stated that under no circumstances, the sale of PoP Ganesha idols be allowed in the district. The officials should conduct surprise raids on workshops and stalls selling Ganesha idols and seize all the PoP idols, she said.'Our devotion should not become a threat to the environment. Our worship should not become a curse for the next generation,' she said, urging everyone to act prevent POP idols from entering the city and towns from other districts, check-posts must be set up at district and urban borders. These posts should be staffed not onlyby police but also by officers and staff from other departments. Police must not be negligent in inspecting and seizing PoP Ganesha idols.
