Set up superspecialty hospital in DK: DYFI
Mangaluru: The DYFI Dakshina Kannada unit members submitted a memorandum urging chief minister Siddaramaiah to set up a superspecialty hospital, including branches of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and Nimhans in Dakshina Kannada district. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Youth leaders submitted a memorandum to the CM through deputy commissioner Darshan HV on Tuesday. DYFI district president BK Imthiyaz said that people are increasingly affected by cancer, heart-related diseases, as well as brain, nerve, and mental illnesses in Dakshina Kannada. To receive better treatment, they are compelled to rely on private hospitals that charge high fees. Due to the lack of proper treatment for serious diseases like cancer and heart-related illnesses in govt hospitals, the poor are being referred to private hospitals under the Ayushman scheme, effectively allowing govt health insurance funds to fill the coffers of private hospitals, he noted. Superspecialty hospitals like Kidwai, Jayadeva, and Nimhans for advanced treatments have not yet been established. Despite decades of demand for a govt medical college in Dakshina Kannada district, only announcements have been made during the govt's budget sessions, without any financial allocation, he lamented. The state govt should take immediate steps to establish units of Kidwai Cancer Hospital, Jayadeva Heart Hospital, and Nimhans in the district, similar to the models initiated in other districts. Imthiyaz urged the govt to expedite the release of funds for establishing a govt medical college in Mangaluru. "There is a need for strengthening govt hospitals by constructing primary, community, and taluk hospitals as per the population requirement and filling all vacant doctor and staff positions," he added.

DYFI demands rollback of ticket price hike for Hari Hara Veera Mallu
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State committee on Wednesday demanded that the State government immediately revoke its order permitting a hike in ticket prices for the upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu. In a statement, DYFI State president Y. Ramu and secretary G. Ramanna criticised the government for burdening the public, already grappling with inflation. They termed it outrageous to charge ₹700 to ₹1,000 for benefit shows held a day before the film's official release and demanded strong measures to curb such 'exploitative practices.' The federation also called for stringent action against black marketing of tickets and urged that theatres failing to provide basic amenities be legally penalised. They further demanded action against cinema halls collecting unauthorised parking fees and overcharging viewers for unbranded food and beverages.

DYFI decries pathetic condition of Pumpwell-Bendorewell Road
Cadres of the DYFI city committee held a demonstration, demanding the immediate restoration of the battered stretch of the Pumpwell-Bendorewell Main Road at the Karavali (Kankanady) Junction, here on Monday. DYFI Dakshina Kannada district committee president B.K. Imtiyaz said that while the government was spending crores of rupees on Smart City projects, it had completely neglected the gateway to the city itself by leaving the main road in a pitiful condition. Stating that the main road has become non-motorable, thereby inconveniencing thousands of road users, Mr. Imtiyaz regretted that accidents were happening on a daily basis, causing injuries and deaths to road users. Authorities concerned should initiate stern action against Mangaluru City Corporation officials involved in their apathy, he demanded. Mr. Imtiyaz also said DYFI has decided to hold a series of protests across the district demanding the restoration of battered roads. The majority of roads in the district have been in a bad condition for a long time, he said. DYFI district associate secretary Madhuri Bolara said the crater-ridden road has been slowing down vehicular movement, thereby causing frequent traffic jams. Women travelling to and from the city to work are affected by the traffic jams, particularly when they reach home late in the evening. CPI(M) city south secretary Yogish Jeppinamogaru, DYFI city president Jagadish Narayan Bajal and others were present.

DYFI calls for monitoring committee in Coimbatore to prevent unfair expulsion of students from schools
The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has urged the School Education Department to form a district-level monitoring committee in Coimbatore to prevent students from being forced to discontinue schooling under the pretext of poor academic performance. Members of the organisation submitted a petition to the Coimbatore Collector on Monday, highlighting their concerns. In the petition, DYFI alleged that some government higher secondary schools are pressuring students with low performance to obtain Transfer Certificates (TCs) in order to maintain a 100% pass rate. Students are reportedly told to assist their fathers at work or to enrol in ITIs instead of continuing formal education. The organisation also raised concerns about discriminatory remarks made to students from linguistic minority communities. In some cases, teachers allegedly questioned parents for choosing Tamil-medium education, suggesting their children would fare better in their mother tongue—an approach DYFI said was rooted in bias. Such practices, the outfit said, undermine the Tamil Nadu government's efforts to reduce school dropouts. It demanded disciplinary action against teachers involved and called for the formation of a monitoring panel to safeguard students' right to education.

Protest against poor condition of road today
Mangaluru: In light of the poor conditions of road in Mangaluru City, especially the main road from Pumpwell Junction to Kankanady and Bendorewell, the DYFI Mangaluru City Committee demanded that the roads be completely repaired and immediately concretised. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Additionally, they are calling for scientific measures at Pumpwell to ensure the smooth drainage of rainwater. The DYFI will hold a protest by displaying posters at Kankanady Junction on Monday at 5.30pm. Naveen Konchady, secretary of DYFI Mangaluru City Committee, said that the main road connecting Mangaluru city, starting from Pumpwell and extending to Kankanady and Bendorewell, is in a state of disrepair. Numerous potholes along the road obstruct the smooth flow of traffic. Additionally, daily traffic jams cause inconvenience to school students and workers, preventing them from reaching their destinations on time. Due to the recent heavy rains, the potholes are filled with water, leading to accidents involving two-wheeler riders, resulting in fatalities, he said. Despite most roads within the jurisdiction of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) being concretised, this main road has yet to be repaired. Even with hundreds of crores allocated under the Smart City project, the authorities have failed to develop this road. The mismanagement of the main road connecting the city, along with the unscientific constructions around Pumpwell Junction, has led to artificial flooding during rainy season, with water filling the roads beneath the national highway flyover. The corporation's administration has been unable to address these issues due to its negligence, he added.
