Dakota City residents help mother and son after car crash
DAKOTA CITY, Nebraska (KCAU) — The community of Dakota City, Nebraska banded together to help raise money for two people injured in a car accident last year. The fundraiser, held at the Dakota City Fire Department, was taking donations for Maddie and Walyon Wedmore, mother and son. With the money raised being used to help pay for medical bills and financially support the two. On December 27th of last year the two were involved in a car accident that took the lives of two drivers, one being husband and father Christopher Wedmore. According to Matt Rowe, Maddie's father, the car accident has left his daughter working through her injuries and temporarily unable to work. 'Unfortunately, she is now a single mother with no other, I mean, she can't she has been working two months. She will be able to go back to work eventually, we don't know when it could be months, it could be weeks we just don't know. Basically, it's just a way to get her a little more financial independence. I mean, if we if we walk away with $15,000/20,000 today, that would be phenomenal. I mean, that's not going to come anywhere close to touching her medical debt, but at least there's something in her pockets,' said Rowe. To raise the funds folks could either donate money before heading to a buffet or enter into a raffle for a chance of winning several prizes like a TV. More than a hundred people showed up to today's fundraiser and Rowe said he can't thank the community enough for their support. 'I've had people come out of the woodwork that I haven't talked to in years that are like, hey, we heard about what happened. We have this couple from Missouri that donated the South Africa trip, don't even know who we are they saw it on Facebook, of all things and like here, we want to help you guys. It's just been really amazing,' said Rowe. Rowe also wants to thank the Dakota City and South Sioux City Fire Department for insure his daughter and grandson survived the crash.
