Dakota City firefighters remember those who died saving others
Every year Bells Across America honors the firefighters who didn't get to come home. In 2024, roughly 70 people lost their life saving others.
The Dakota City Fire Department not only honored those who died last year, but also remembers the three brave men who gave their lives for their community. Andy Zalme in April 2015, Eric Speck in June of 2016, and Lowell Satterwhite in September of 2016.
'They made the ultimate sacrifice, so it's why we're here today. So we have to keep their legacy going to make sure that we honor them,' said Fire Chief Clint Rasmussen, with the Dakota City Fire Department.
The ringing of the bell signifies that a firefighter has died.

Blind dog's arrival to rescue leaves workers worried
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The arrival of a 6-year-old blind dog has workers at the Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue Center asking for help. An unidentified person delivered the dog named Raven to the center in a kennel early Thursday afternoon. The shelter has more questions than answers. 'We're actively looking for the community's help to try and find out who the person is that abandoned this dog along the roadway. It's very, very hot today, and it wouldn't have taken long, would have succumbed to this heat,' said Rarrat. Center officials say if anyone has information about this, please call them. Crews battle huge fire in North Las Vegas; 1 person injured
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A massive fire in North Las Vegas on Tuesday morning raged at a site where apartments are under construction. The black smoke could be seen from around the valley. More than one building was involved in the fire, according to Kathleen Richards, North Las Vegas communications manager. A construction worker was injured in the fire. He was transported to University Medical Center with burn injuries, and a second person is being evaluated at the scene, Richards said. The fire was reported around 7 a.m. at 6500 N. Fifth Street, near Centennial Parkway in what appears to be an apartment complex under construction. Northbound 5th Avenue is currently closed to traffic at Centennial Parkway.
