DK Congress issues show cause notices to Shahul Hameed, K. Ashraf
The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DKDCC) on Saturday, May 31, issued notices to its minority wing president K.K. Shahul Hameed and former Mangaluru Mayor K. Ashraf to show cause why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them for painting the party in bad light. In separate notices to the two leaders, DKDCC General Secretary Vikas Shetty said their reported move to tender resignations to party positions in protest against the alleged inaction of the State government on Abdul Rahiman murder case has caused embarrassment to Congress even at the National level. Being senior leaders of the party, it was their responsibility to convince community members about the steps being taken by the Congress and the State government to ensure justice to the victims and safety to all. In the notice to Mr. Hameed, the DCC said MLCs Manjunatha Bhandary and Ivan D'Souza had contacted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Chief Minister's Political Secretary Nazeer Ahmed and senior leader B.K. Hariprasad to air the grievances of Muslim community members in Dakshina Kannada. Despite the senior Party leaders assuring Mr. Hameed to take all necessary action and asking him not to proceed with holding any meeting or tendering resignation, the latter went ahead with them. Mr. Ashraf was told that he had issued statements asking community members not to meet the district in charge Minister during his visit to Dakshina Kannada and also had spoken low of the Minister. Besides being a responsible representative of the government, the Minister was also a senior leader of the party, the notice said. The statements and actions of both the leaders were against the party discipline, Mr. Shetty said asking them to respond to the notices within seven days.

Cong minority functionaries plan mass resignations
Mangaluru: Upset over back-to-back murders in Mangaluru and the deteriorating law and order situation, Shahul Hameed KK, president of the minority wing of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress, said that several party office bearers from the Muslim minority community are expected to tender mass resignations on Thursday. He said that a meeting will be convened at 2.30 pm at Shaadi Mahal in Mangaluru, where 300–400 Congress members, ranging from booth-level functionaries to state-level leaders, are likely to resign from their posts. "This is a voluntary decision. Communal, religion-based murders are happening repeatedly in the district. The home department failed to control the situation. How many more innocents must die? Provocative speeches are being made openly, and the police are unable to contain the fallout," he said. Hameed further warned that the fear among the public is intense, and the district virtually shuts down by 7 pm. "Students will stop coming to Mangaluru if this continues. A handful of rowdies are creating havoc, and despite meetings by the home minister and district minister, murders continue unabated," he added. Ashraf resigns In a related development, former mayor K Ashraf submitted his resignation from the post of vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee. In his statement, Ashraf said, "I held various positions in the Mangaluru City Corporation and also served as mayor. With the Congress currently in power, I am deeply hurt by the persistent atrocities against minorities in Dakshina Kannada and elsewhere in Karnataka. " He pointed to the Sangh Parivar's role in inciting communal violence, hate speeches by fringe elements, and the brutal murder of Abdul Rahiman.

Congress holds blood donation camp to laud Operation Sindoor in Mangaluru
Mangaluru: KPCC working president Saleem Ahmed visited the Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee office in Mallikatte and addressed the party workers on Sunday. He appreciated the Youth Congress district committee and the Mangaluru City South unit of the Congress for organising a blood donation camp to honour the Indian armed forces and Operation Sindoor . The blood donation camp was organised in association with Yenepoya Hospital at the party office. Ahmed called upon youth leaders to be prepared during the monsoon to help people in case of any distress. "This blood donation camp is a commendable and exemplary programme aimed at empowering soldiers who sacrifice their lives for the nation," he said, encouraging youth leaders to continue their efforts for the welfare of society. Inaugurating the event, MLC Ivan D'Souza said that during this time of blood shortages in hospitals, blood donation camps are very useful and should be continued at every taluk level. "Hospitals find it difficult to arrange blood while treating emergency cases. Hence, organisations should hold blood donation camps to ensure that hospitals do not face a blood shortage crisis," he said. Former minister B Ramanath Rai, KPCC general secretary Padmaraj R Poojary, former chairman of the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority Suresh Ballal, and Youth Congress district president Ibrahim Nawaz were present.
