Springsteen doubles down on political criticism with a digital EP that includes anti-Trump comments
There's no retreat or surrender from Bruce Springsteen — or from President Donald Trump, for that matter. The rock star released a digital EP on Wednesday with four songs recorded live in Manchester, England last week, along with two of his addresses to the audience that attacked Trump's 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.' The Boss pointedly opened his concert in Manchester Tuesday night, his third in the English city, with the song 'No Surrender.' A satirical video posted on Trump's social media account on Wednesday showed the Republican president taking a swing on the golf course and his 'ball' hitting Springsteen in the back as he stumbles to get onstage. Springsteen, long a Trump opponent, began the latest skirmish in the culture war in England last week, where he opened a European tour. His same-state neighbor Trump — they both have homes in New Jersey — responded by calling the Boss a 'dried-out prune of a rocker.' Both men have had other rock stars leap to their defense. Trump supporter Kid Rock appeared twice on Fox News Channel last week. He said his fellow Michigander, Bob Seger, 'smokes' Springsteen. 'Bruce Springsteen is another one of the liberals who has mountains of money who so desperately wants to keep his good standing in the eyes of Hollywood and the elite,' Kid Rock said. Springsteen 'plays the working-class guy' but his politics are 'ass-backward,' he said. On Fox's influential show 'The Five,' former White House press secretary Dana Perino said she always found Springsteen overrated, and Greg Gutfeld denounced him with an off-color slur. Neil Young has backed Springsteen, and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder praised him during a concert in Pittsburgh over the weekend. Springsteen brought up issues, and in response 'all that we heard were personal attacks and threats that nobody else should even try to use their microphones or use their voices in public or they will be shut down,' Vedder said. 'The name-calling is so beneath us,' said Vedder, before Pearl Jam performed Young's 'Rockin' in the Free World.' For Springsteen, 'No Surrender' replaced 'Land of Hope and Dreams' atop his concert set list. The EP released digitally on Wednesday also contained a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Chimes of Freedom.' ___ David Bauder writes about the intersection of media and entertainment for the AP. The surprising way Fox News' Dana Perino takes her lunch break
The surprising way Fox News' Dana Perino takes her lunch break Show Caption Hide Caption Fox News' Dana Perino talks about the election Fox News' Dana Perino talks about the idea that Americans are divided, ahead of the RNC starting. Anyone who works in media (this reporter included) is likely in a toxic relationship with their phone. But Fox News personality Dana Perino sometimes puts her phone down for a luxurious 90 minutes in the middle of the day. Why? To ballroom dance. "It's like being at a jury," she says, marveling at all the people she meets in a world outside her typical bubble. "It's the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker, and it's taken about a year or so for me to now have little fun friendships with people from all over the world and people all different walks of life in New York who gather at this place, and are super encouraging to each other, and it's fun." She encourages people to go out and escape their pandemic habits in her new book "I Wish Someone Had Told Me ... " (Fox News Books, 263 pp., out April 22) to reset their career and life goals. And in her case, taking her own advice helped her fix her posture and back issues. Today's trends: Sign up for USA TODAY's Everyone's Talking newsletter for all the buzziest stories. More from the Fox News journalist: Dana Perino on lessons learned from the White House, Fox News hosts and longtime husband "I carry a lot of tension in my upper back, a lot of us do," she says, noting her back pain grew chronic. She didn't take any medicine but tried Pilates, acupuncture and saw a chiropractor. Instead, Perino ballroom danced her way into a solution. "The only thing that has sustained this actual better posture and comfort, I have to say, it had to have been adding the dance to my routine," she says. Bad posture can lead to more than just back discomfort, but neck pain, problems with balance and overall flexibility, according to Cleveland Clinic. On the flip-side, though, dance on its own can lead to injuries, including ones involving the back, per Johns Hopkins Medicine. Before you try anything yourself, of course, consult a healthcare provider.

Fox News' Peter Doocy Faces Another Avian Ambush At The White House
Fox News host Peter Doocy has been attacked by birds — for the second time in a month. The senior correspondent was reporting live Monday from the White House for the morning show 'America's Newsroom' and discussing President Donald Trump's order to reopen Alcatraz, San Francisco Bay's former federal prison, when a feathered friend derailed him. 'Are you dodging birds again?' Fox News colleague Dana Perino asked Doocy, who was visibly ducking for cover during the segment. He confirmed: 'There is a bird! Yes, I am! I don't know, I need to, like, shave my head. What's going on?' 'It's because you're so tall, and so cute,' Perino replied. While he went on to joke that somebody should 'send the birds to Alcatraz,' social media users noted Doocy was standing in the same area of the White House grounds where a bird landed on him last month — and suggested the anchor move elsewhere. 'A smart person would figure out he's standing too close to the nest. Mama birds are very protective,' one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter, with another user commenting: 'Going to continue until nesting season is over. He needs to move farther from the trees.' Both broadcasts with feathered animals concerned contentious Trump policies. The bird tried to sit on Doocy's head last month while he was reporting on Trump's controversial trade war with China and increased tariffs, which have led economists to fear a recession, or worse. The pundit was reporting live for 'Fox & Friends' from the White House grounds when he suddenly began flailing. 'A bird just landed on my head!' Doocy exclaimed at the time. 'I did not like that at all.' Trump's announcement Sunday that he wants to reopen Alcatraz has sparked confusion. Alcatraz was famously closed in the 1960s as it was far more costly to operate than other facilities. The president said he wishes to use the island prison for America's most violent offenders, however, and that he's already directed federal agencies to do so. 'Alcatraz closed as a federal penitentiary more than sixty years ago,' Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) wrote Sunday night on X. 'It is now a very popular national park and major tourist attraction. The President's proposal is not a serious one.' Whether it will reopen remains to be seen, as does whether Doocy will face a third bird attack. Related...

Video: Bird crashes Peter Doocy's live shot on Fox News... again
"There is a bird!" he said while ducking for cover. "I don't know. I need to, like, shave my head. What's going on?" The bird made an appearance while Doocy was reporting live from the White House for Fox News' morning show, "America's Newsroom." As Doocy dodged the bird, co-host Dana Perino poked fun at Doocy having to dodge birds again. "It's because you're so tall and so cute," Perino said. Doocy, who was wrapping up a segment on an order signed by President Donald Trump to reopen Alcatraz as a prison, referenced the news, saying, "send the birds to Alcatraz!" From prison to tourist destination: See what Alcatraz looks like today Watch: Bird swoops by Peter Doocy... again Last month, Doocy found himself in a very similar situation. While he was wrapping up a live report from the White House for Fox News' morning show, "Fox and Friends," another bird tried to land on the reporter's head. "I did not like that at all," Doocy said. "That's probably so ... dirty." Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Reach him at and follow him on X @fern_cerv_.
