Moving poem recital stirs hearts at Warriors' Day parade

PUTRAJAYA: A moving recital by armed forces Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni brought emotional depth to the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, as her voice echoed among rows of decorated veterans and active service members. Her rendition of the poem "Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju" was not just a performance, but a heartfelt expression of duty and devotion, and a pledge of duty and love for the nation. With over two decades in military service, each line she delivered carried the weight of her experience. "For me, poetry is more than just words. It's a way to connect hearts — especially with those who've worn the uniform before us," said Siti Nur Aini, 40, from Kulim, Kedah, who was selected to perform at the national event for the third time. "When I see the veterans marching with such enthusiasm, despite their age and physical limitations, my heart aches," she said. "Their unwavering spirit breathes life into every verse I recite," she added, referring to the poem written by the late Norazimah Abu Bakar. Having begun reciting poetry during her school days, the 40-year-old from Kulim, Kedah, said her passion for poetry has remained strong throughout her career in the military. Her dedication has earned her several accolades, including being crowned champion of the armed forces' Sayembara Deklamasi Puisi Kemerdekaan' 2023. However, Siti Nur Aini is quick to point out that it's not the awards that matter most, but how poetry can stir the hearts of the younger generation and remind them of the sacrifices made by the country's heroes. "The verses that touches me most deeply are: 'selimut pejuang yang gugur perlahan dilepaskan' and 'dari liang pusara menyambut syahdu, resam terpercik darah di baju masih basah, bersemadi di kalbuku'. These lines pierce straight to the heart. "I visualise the sacrifices made throughout my years in uniform, and from there, the emotions come on their own," she said. Siti Nur Aini also shares her training methods with her recital partner, Detective Sergeant Ardiansyah Wayang from the police. Together, they often exchange ideas and rehearse to identify the key parts of a poem that need to be emphasised to leave a lasting emotional impact on the audience. "We always collaborate, share perspectives, and practise together. We discuss which parts of the poem need to be highlighted so that the message truly resonates with the audience," she said. The Warriors' Day parade, coordinated by the police, involved 18 officers and 685 personnel from the police and armed forces, led by Superintendent Mohamad Ridzuan Roslan. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, King and Queen of Malaysia, graced the parade held in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here. Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar were also in attendance. Warriors' Day, first observed on July 31, 1960, stands as a symbol of national appreciation and recognition for the service, sacrifice, and bravery of officers and members of the police and the armed forces, both those who have fallen and those still living, in defending the sovereignty and peace of our beloved nation.

King, Queen attend 2025 Warriors' Day celebration

PUTRAJAYA: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, King and Queen of Malaysia, today attended a parade held in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration at Dataran Pahlawan Negara here. The celebration, coordinated by the police, carried the concept of a static parade featuring detachments from the police, armed forces, Veterans Association of Malaysian Armed Forces (PVATM) and the Ex-Policemen Association of Malaysia (PBPM). The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem, Negaraku, accompanied by the firing of a 21-gun salute by Major Hafizan Mat Ghani of the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial). His Majesty then inspected the main guard of honour. A total of 18 officers and 685 personnel from the police and armed forces participated in the parade, led by Superintendent Mohamad Ridzuan Roslan of the police. Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar were also in attendance. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the 'Last Post', as the Jalur Gemilang was lowered. This was followed by the recital of the poem "Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju" by police detective Sergeant Ardiansyah Wayang and Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni of the armed forces. The poem recounts the tragic ambush by communist terrorists on an armed convoy transporting patients from Baling, Kedah, to Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, on July 20, 1979. The incident claimed the lives of three armed forces personnel, namely Corporal Ramli Abdul Rashid, Trooper Azmi Rahman, and Trooper Abu Hassan Syeikh Daud. The ceremony continued with a special pantomime performance, "Zabri, Pejuang Sang Saka Biru", by the police and directed by GOF Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari, depicting the heroic journey of VAT69 Commando ASP Mohd Zabri Abdul Hamid. The story of Mohd Zabri's struggle, famously known as the Legend of Kerambit Kembar, was brought to life through a 15-minute performance involving 142 policemen, followed by the presentation of an AI-generated video, a creative production by the police team based on real-life events. The pantomime narrated the story of the late Mohd Zabri, who was killed in a deadly ambush by communist terrorists in 1975. He was fatally injured after stepping on a booby trap while on a mission to intercept terrorists attempting to escape across the border. The booby trap severely injured his right ankle, leading to heavy blood loss. In his final moments, Mohd Zabri managed to deliver a message to his comrades, to continue the struggle, to track down and eliminate the enemies of the nation, even in his absence. The ceremony proceeded with the sounding of the Paluan Fajar, during which the Jalur Gemilang was hoisted, symbolising renewed spirit and strength for the nation's heroes to continue defending the country's sovereignty and peace. Warriors' Day is commemorated on July 31 each year to honour the struggles and sacrifices of the nation's security forces in safeguarding the country's sovereignty and peace. –Bernama

Warriors' Day: 'Darah Yang Terpercik Di Baju' Pays Tribute To Nation's Heroes

By Norhayati Mohd Akhir PUTRAJAYA, July 31 (Bernama) -- Among the rows of heroes, veterans of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), a soft yet powerful female voice pierced the stillness of the morning, evoking memories of bloodshed and sacrifice on the battlefield. The poem, titled 'Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju,' was more than just a recitation. For Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni, it was a heartfelt expression of duty and devotion - a pledge of loyalty spoken with love. A member of the ATM for over two decades, she delivered each line not just with voice, but with the weight of experience as a military personnel. Chosen for the third time to recite a poem in conjunction with Warriors' Day, Siti Nur Aini considers the opportunity a deeply meaningful honour, especially as she stands before rows of veterans who remain resolute, even as age begins to weigh on their bodies. 'When I see the veterans marching with such enthusiasm, despite their age and physical limitations, my heart aches,' she said. 'Their unwavering spirit breathes life into every verse I recite,' she added, referring to the poem written by the late Norazimah Abu Bakar. Having begun reciting poetry during her school days, the 40-year-old from Kulim, Kedah, said her passion for poetry has remained strong throughout her career in the military.
