PUTRAJAYA, July 31 (Bernama) -- Among the rows of heroes, veterans of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), a soft yet powerful female voice pierced the stillness of the morning, evoking memories of bloodshed and sacrifice on the battlefield.
The poem, titled 'Darah Yang Terpercik di Baju,' was more than just a recitation. For Staff Sergeant Siti Nur Aini Jasni, it was a heartfelt expression of duty and devotion - a pledge of loyalty spoken with love. A member of the ATM for over two decades, she delivered each line not just with voice, but with the weight of experience as a military personnel.
Chosen for the third time to recite a poem in conjunction with Warriors' Day, Siti Nur Aini considers the opportunity a deeply meaningful honour, especially as she stands before rows of veterans who remain resolute, even as age begins to weigh on their bodies.
'When I see the veterans marching with such enthusiasm, despite their age and physical limitations, my heart aches,' she said.
'Their unwavering spirit breathes life into every verse I recite,' she added, referring to the poem written by the late Norazimah Abu Bakar.
Having begun reciting poetry during her school days, the 40-year-old from Kulim, Kedah, said her passion for poetry has remained strong throughout her career in the military. Her dedication has earned her several accolades, including being crowned champion of the ATM 'Sayembara Deklamasi Puisi Kemerdekaan' 2023.
However, Siti Nur Aini is quick to point out that it's not the awards that matter most, but how poetry can stir the hearts of the younger generation and remind them of the sacrifices made by the country's heroes.
'The verses that touches me most deeply are: 'selimut pejuang yang gugur perlahan dilepaskan' and 'dari liang pusara menyambut syahdu, resam terpercik darah di baju masih basah, bersemadi di kalbuku'. These lines pierce straight to the heart.

First Form Six College in Machang to open in 2026

KOTA BHARU: The first Form Six College in Machang is expected to be completed and begin operations next year, offering students a more conducive learning environment, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. Fadhlina, who visited the construction site during her three-day working trip to Kelantan, said the project is progressing as scheduled and is on track for completion by 2026. 'God willing, the college will be ready next year, allowing students to study in a more comfortable and focused setting,' she told reporters after presenting Early Schooling Aid (BAP) to Semester 1 Form Six students for the 2025 academic session today. Fadhlina noted that Kelantan's Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results have remained excellent and consistent, underscoring the need for continued support for both infrastructure and academic quality. 'Infrastructure alone isn't enough. The quality of teachers and students must also remain a key focus,' she added. The minister said she also held engagement sessions with Form Six teachers and students to ensure they continue receiving high-quality education. - Bernama

Kelantan Orang Asli uphold 80% of traditional customs despite modernity

GUA MUSANG: Eighty per cent of the Orang Asli community in Kelantan continue to uphold their traditional customs and beliefs despite rapid modernisation, according to Kelantan National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) director Rohaniza Abdullah. A recent study by the department found that the community remains deeply connected to its cultural identity, with younger generations actively using social media to share their heritage. 'The strength of the Orang Asli lies in their ability to preserve their culture in today's modern world,' Rohaniza said. She highlighted that the research has revealed many unique aspects of Orang Asli traditions still unknown to the wider public. To bridge this gap, JKKN organised the two-day Penyemarakan Komuniti Budaya @ Komuniti Orang Asli programme in Pos Brooke, Lojing. The event featured artistic performances, traditional games, and heritage food. A key highlight was a cassava grating competition using rattan roots, a technique passed down through generations. 'By turning this into a competition, we introduce the younger generation to their own culture,' Rohaniza explained. Such initiatives aim to safeguard Orang Asli heritage for future generations, ensuring their traditions remain vibrant and appreciated. - Bernama

Capsized yacht: SAR continues for missing Turkish national

KUANTAN – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is continuing its search and rescue (SAR) operation for a Turkish national, Eser Demirkol, who was reported missing following the capsizing of a yacht near Pulau Yu waters near Kuala Terengganu. MMEA director-general Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said two diving teams were deployed this morning to the last known location where the vessel was reported to have sunk. 'The operation is ongoing today with the deployment of sea assets such as vessels and boats, as well as aerial support, including helicopters. We are also receiving assistance from other agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM),' he said. He was speaking to reporters at the 2025 MMEA media day programme at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) here today. Mohd Rosli said the operation is being conducted based on the latest information obtained from the two survivors of the incident, with the search area covering approximately 305 nautical square miles. 'One of the survivors informed that they managed to jump into the sea as the vessel was sinking, while the other individual (Demirkol) was believed to have been asleep and did not have time to escape. 'So, there's a possibility the victim sank entirely with the yacht. However, we're still combing the area in hopes of locating the sunken vessel,' he said. It was reported that three Turkish nationals, yacht captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52; Ates Demiroren, 42; and Demirkol, 52, had planned to sail from Malaysia back to their home country on Monday. However, the yacht was believed to have capsized during a storm in Pulau Yu waters on Tuesday afternoon. Demiroren was rescued by local fishermen while floating at sea, and Volkan Ata was found safe after drifting for nearly 43 hours before being rescued by a fishing boat. Both are currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu. — BERNAMA
