New York Giants' Darius Slayton named NFL's most underrated wide receiver
New York Giants' Darius Slayton named NFL's most underrated wide receiver Entering the 2025 offseason, the New York Giants were expected to part ways with free agent wide receiver Darius Slayton after six seasons. The 2019 fifth-round pick was looking at a rich receiver market, while the team appeared poised to move on. "Definitely, winning and being in an advantageous situation are probably two things that are really important for me right now," Slayton told the New York Daily News before free agency. "Obviously, five out of my six years with the Giants we weren't competitive. We didn't make the playoffs. We weren't really close to making the playoffs. "I have learned over my career that I do want to go off and I do want to get paid. But it weighs on me so heavy just losing. Every. Single. Week. I can't take [it]. Like, there's no money that's gonna make me just go home and be like -- I'm obviously gonna be a little more happy in my Hellcat than in a Camry -- but like my spirit, the core of me cannot take that." Then came a surprise. On the first day of the legal tampering period, the Giants re-signed Slayton to a three-year deal worth $36 million. They obviously sold him on their vision and the two turned away from divorce and instead chose to renew their vows. That may turn out to benefit the Giants, who will look to throw downfield more in 2025. And that's good news as the always-consistent Slayton was recently named the NFL's most underrated wide receiver by Aaron Schatz of NFL Media. Slayton wasn't supposed to be anything special as a fifth-round pick in 2019, but he started nine games and caught eight touchdown passes in his rookie season. Sure, he hasn't come anywhere close to that end zone production since then. But the Giants played Slayton alongside Malik Nabers last season, and you need at least two starting wide receivers to survive in the modern NFL. Slayton caught 39 passes for 573 yards, which was convincing enough for the Giants to bring him back on a three-year, $36 million contract. Advanced metrics support the move since Slayton has had a positive receiving DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) for three straight seasons. And it's not like he has done that while working with any of the NFL's best quarterbacks. With Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and/or Jaxson Dart under center in 2025, Slayton should continue to work as a deep threat opposite Nabers. He'll probably put up another quietly productive and surprisingly efficient season. Slayton is a selfless team-first player who produces at a consistent clip despite the inconsistencies around him. With a more stable and talented quarterback situation in 2025, he could even be headed for a breakout season.

Darius Slayton has perfect message for Russell Wilson's Giants signing
Darius Slayton had an apt message for the Giants and their fans over their newest quarterback acquisition. And with Russell Wilson en route to New York, it really was the only thing that needed to be said. Advertisement 'Giants country…..Lets Ride,' Slayton wrote on X following the news that Wilson was signing a one-year contract with Big Blue on Tuesday night. For the uninitiated, the words 'Broncos country, let's ride,' became a ubiquitous meme in the summer of 2022 after Wilson, then with Denver, uttered the phrase over and over again in a promotional video. After that clip went viral, the words became ever-linked to his name. Slayton, who signed his own three-year, $36 million deal with the Giants this offseason, gets a veteran quarterback in Wilson who brings in 13 years of NFL experience and 10 Pro Bowls. Wilson, after two up-and-down seasons in Denver, joined the Steelers in 2024. Russell Wilson (3) runs the ball against the Kansas City Chiefs during the third quarter at Acrisure Stadium on Dec. 25, 2024. Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images Injured for the first six weeks, Wilson played Weeks 7-17, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions with a 51.3 QBR, his best number since he was traded from Seattle to Denver in 2022. Pittsburgh went 6-5 in those games. Advertisement The Giants now have a full quarterback room with the additions of Wilson and Jameis Winston and the re-signing of Tommy DeVito. Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton (86) runs after a catch as he is pursued by Cowboys linebacker Eric Kendricks (50) during the second quarter of the Giants and Dallas Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Sept. 26, 2024. Bill Kostroun/New York Post New York struggled mightily to get any QB production last year and finished with the fifth-worst passing offense (189.9 yards per game) and the fewest passing touchdowns (15) in the NFL.

New York Giants' Darius Slayton fiercely defends Shedeur Sanders against critics
New York Giants' Darius Slayton fiercely defends Shedeur Sanders against critics 😂😂I promise he can pat the ball and be just fine if DB's was so good at breaking on ball pats they'd all have 8+ picks a year. Same guys that fall for a 2 man dagger concept and give up the dig on 3rd&long every season all season long talkin bout a ball pat what a joke😂 — Darius Slayton (@Young_Slay2) April 5, 2025 Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders had his pro day on Friday, and most of the reviews were positive, elevating his draft stock. There were some criticisms, however. One expert called the workout "concerning" and pointed out that Sanders patted the football and hitched too much before throwing, indicating that "windows close more quickly" in the NFL. New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton, who someday soon could be on the other end of some of those throws, didn't feel that this was much of a concern at all. Slayton also shut down current Jets safety Andre Cisco's critical review as well. There's these large fellows called lineman who are in between line of sight so if a QB isn't 6'4-6'5+ you lose them behind the OL all the time so if i can't see the QB throw it to me how in the Flying Dutchman is a DB gonna see him pat it BEFORE he throws it. — Darius Slayton (@Young_Slay2) April 5, 2025 The Giants hold the third pick in the 2025 NFL draft and could very well have an opportunity to select Sanders. At the pro day on Friday, the Giants were out in full force. Head coach Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, and both quarterback coaches, Shea Tierney and Chad Hall, were all on hand. If there's an issue with Sanders' mechanics, they surely picked it up.

New York Giants re-sign Darius Slayton to three-year deal
As the official start to free agency approached, it seemed inevitable that wide receiver Darius Slayton would bid farewell to the New York Giants and find greener pastures elsewhere. All of that changed on Monday. With the first day of the "legal tampering" period drawing to a close, Slayton and the Giants reached an agreement on a three-year deal worth $36 million ($12 million AAV). Slayton recently opined about the Giants' losing ways, expressing a desire to find success before his NFL career reached an end. "Definitely, winning and being in an advantageous situation are probably two things that are really important for me right now," Slayton told the New York Daily News. Like, there's no money that's gonna make me just go home and be like -- I'm obviously gonna be a little more happy in my Hellcat than in a Camry -- but like my spirit, the core of me cannot take that." Money talks but it's clear there was something more than that. General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll must have convinced Slayton the Giants are on the fringe and will soon find a way to win. If not, how could he justify returning? Since being selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft, Slayton has been the team's most consistent wide receiver despite the quarterback issues that have plagued the team. More importantly, he has served as a valuable veteran voice in the locker room, mentoring rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers a season ago. Slayton will enter 2025 as the team's No. 2 wide receiver and with any luck, with have a talented quarterback throwing to him.
