Counterfeit goods worth £370,000 seized

Almost £400,000 worth of counterfeit goods have been seized, including vapes and headphones. According to South Yorkshire Police, about £370,000 worth of electronic devices, counterfeit vapes, vape liquids and cartridges were discovered after an inspection of a business in Rotherham. Insp Darren Birley said the counterfeit vapes could have posed a health risk to users and were undercutting legitimate businesses. He said: "Information provided by members of the public is vital in helping us gather intelligence, carry out inspections and execute warrants." Rotherham South Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out the joint operation in Dinnington with Rotherham Council's Trading Standards Team on 5 March, following information reported by members of the public. Insp Birley said the ongoing work was focused on ensuring the safety of local communities. He added: "Working together on the issues that matter the most to local communities is what pushes us to achieve results like these. "The hard work does not stop, and we will continue to focus on this issue." Chop shop discovered on industrial estate

Two men have been arrested after police found a "chop shop" on an industrial estate. Officers were tracking a stolen Range Rover when they discovered the unit on the Kiveton Park Industrial Estate in Rotherham. Multiple stolen cars, high-end vehicle parts and pallets of stolen chocolate bars and printer cartridges were all found inside. South Yorkshire Police neighbourhood policing team Insp Darren Birley said it was a "sophisticated operation". Chop shops are used to dismantle stolen cars so that parts can be sold on separately. After gaining warrants for two more units, police uncovered a "lorry full of high-end car parts" and several vehicles stolen from across the country. Insp Birley said: "We know the impact car theft can on have people, which is why it is vital that we work with other police forces to trace stolen vehicles and dismantle these 'chop shops'." Two men were arrested and bailed pending further enquiries. Police seize £30,000 illegal vapes from shop

More than £30,000 worth of suspected counterfeit and unfit-for-sale vapes and cigarettes have been seized from a shop in Rotherham. Police and and council trading standards officers conducted an operation at a store in Swallownest on 13 February. Intelligence from residents and local businesses, including reports of anti-social behaviour reportedly caused by the shop, resulted in the joint operation, South Yorkshire Police said. During the inspection, more than £28,000 worth of counterfeit vapes, vape liquids and cartridges, and more than 150 packs of illegal cigarettes, worth about £1,400, were found in the shop. Insp Darren Birley, of Rotherham South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Not only do these vapes undercut legitimate businesses, but they also pose a serious risk to people's health. "It isn't uncommon for these counterfeit products to find their way into the hands of children." Sam Barstow, Rotherham Council's assistant director of community safety and street scene, said: "Joint operations of this nature to tackle illegal tobacco and vape products have resulted in over £639,000 worth of illicit items being removed from sale."
