Spider-Man in Glasgow: 17 amazing pictures of the city turned into New York for the superhero blockbuster
The filming of a new superhero blockbuster has transformed several blocks of Glasgow city centre into a little piece of the Big Apple. Pedestrians walking down Bothwell Street would be forgiven for thinking they were on the other side of the Atlantic, with New York street signs, American flags fire trucks, police cars and taxis at every turn. It's all for the filming of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' which will be swinging into cinemas next summer. Tom Holland stars as the titular web-slinger and a few lucky fans managed to catch a glimpse of him earlier this week. But even those who don't get to see any of the filming can visit the set - and they have more time to do so now, with filming extended to August 24. Here are 17 pictures of the set. 1 . Peter Capaldi Live in Glasgow: Here are 13 amazing pictures of the Doctor Who star's first public music gig for over 40 years
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi played the first of two hometown gigs at Glasgow's Stereo venue last night (Tuesday, July 29). It follows the release of the Doctor Who star's second album, 'Sweet Illusions', on local record label Last Night From Glasgow earlier this year - and a guest slot with Franz Ferdinand at Glastonbury. Capaldi was born in Glasgow and grew up in Springburn and Bishopbriggs - attending St Teresa's Primary School, St Matthew's Primary School in Bishopbriggs, and St Ninian's High School in Kirkintilloch, before studying at Glasgow School of Art. His musical career began when he formed a band called 'The Dreamboys', whose lineup included comedian Craig Ferguson. But ultimately he chose a career in film and television, winning an Oscar for his short film 'Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life', and starring in the likes of 'The Thick of It' and 'Doctor Who', amongst a string of television and film roles. Here are 13 pictures from the show, where he played the following: Is It Today Hanger Lane Sweet Illusions Bin Night Not Going Anywhere Something to Behold It's Not Over Until It's Over The Big Guy A Little Bit of Class Ken And Anne Marie (Beautiful & Weird) Through the Cracks Friday I'm In Love No One in the World You can buy Peter Capaldi's album from Last Night From Glasgow here - where you can also sign up to become a member and receive lots of great records while supporting Glasgow's music scene. 1 . Lana Del Ray at Hampden Park: Here are 22 amazing pictures of the star's stunning Glasgow concert
Lana Del Rey was in Scotland this week to play just the second show of her new tour. The star has previously only ever played a handful of gigs in the UK, including a date at Glasgow's SECC in 2013 and the city's Hydro in 2017. She's a fan of the city, having dated Kassidy frontman Barrie James O'Neill. When asked if she had a permanent home she said: "I don't have when I have any time I go to Glasgow, that's where I'm happiest". And she professed her love of the Dear Green Place - and the year she spent in the city - again during her sold out gig at Hampden Park. She was late on stage (as she always is) but more than made up for it with a spectacular set. Here are 22 pictures from the memorable evening. Lana Del Ray played: -------- -------- 1 .
