Halle Berry's fans aren't happy. The Oscar-winning actress' ex-husband, David Justice, is facing backlash after he said that his and Berry's marriage didn't work out because she wasn't 'maternal' and didn't help enough around the house. Elsewhere during the podcast interview, Justice explained why he decided to marry Berry after only a few months of dating. 'She asked me to marry her after knowing me for five months,' he said. 'I said OK, because I couldn't say no. But I don't know if my heart was really into it, but I didn't want to make her feel bad and say no, you know. According to David Justice, chief among the reasons he decided to end his union with Halle Berry was her failure to complete what he felt were her domestic and wifely duties. David Justice, 59, sat down with the All The Smoke podcast and dished about his 14-year Major League Baseball career, winning two World Series, and shared details of the teams he played for. Justice and Berry were married from 1993 to 1997, and now he's sharing why the pair didn't last. 'My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast,' Justice said to Matt Barnes. 'So, I'm looking at my mom…and I'm a Midwest guy. Justice doubled down on Berry's lack of cooking and cleaning around the home and positioned it as a reason why he couldn't sustain their relationship. In Justice's words, he felt that the prospect of having children with Berry wouldn't work out well because she, quote, didn't seem 'motherly' ahead of saying that the pair began having issues. Long-persisting and unconfirmed rumors of domestic violence on Justice's behalf had dogged him, but he has come out to publicly state that he has never put his hands on his ex-wife, nor has Berry named her abuser. Berry is the mother of two children from previous relationships and is currently dating singer Van Hunt. To Justice's credit, he did reveal that therapy might have possibly saved his marriage, as he admitted to lacking the tools to work on things. Halle Berry's first ex-husband, David Justice, said he 'decided to leave' the actress in 1996 because he couldn't see her as the mother of his kids. 'My knowledge and my understanding, my wisdom around relationships just wasn't vast,' the former Major League Baseball player said on Matt Barnes' All the Smoke podcast on Friday. 'So, I'm looking at my mum — and I'm a Midwest guy. So, in my mind, I'm thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, [be] traditional, you know?' Justice continued. 'Then I'm thinking, 'OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with?' At that time, as a young guy — she don't cook, don't clean, don't really seem like, motherly, and then we start having issues.' The former Atlanta Braves player, 59, confessed that their demanding careers also played a role in their split. 'We spent a lot of time apart because she was doing movies in this country, that country. And we honestly probably could have made it if I knew about therapy. If we knew about therapy, we probably could have made it,' he told Barnes, 45. 'We never had any major issues like that. It's just … because I was young and had only been in one real relationship before her,' Justice admitted. The former athlete said he didn't know if his 'heart was really into it' when Berry, 58, asked him to marry her after they had only been dating for five months.
