Fire rips through Fiorentina's training ground as four people rushed to hospital
Fiorentina's training ground was on fire on Saturday night with firefighters needing hours to control the blaze as four people were taken to hospital following the incident Fiorentina's training ground was engulfed by fire on Saturday night as a terrifying blaze resulted in four people being rushed to hospital as firefighters attempted to contain the situation in Italy. Flames broke out from inside a pavilion that provides accommodation for young Fiorentina players at Viola Park, according to reports. The entire area was evacuated with the fire continuing to burn throughout the night. It is is understood that the flames started at around 2:15am and led the Florence fire command and the Pontassieve detachment to send 20 units to the site, which included ladder trucks, tankers and an air wagon. Extinguishing operations had to continue until 6:15am. Four people - three boys and an adult accompanying them - were taken to hospital for checks due to exposure to the fumes. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. The building has been deemed unusable after the scary incident. Fiorentina put out a statement following the incident which read: "During the night a fire, the causes of which are still unclear, broke out inside a room in the pavilion dedicated to the youth sector of the 'Rocco B. Commisso' Viola Park. "The alarm system, emergency procedures and the preparation of the staff present ensured the rapid evacuation of the structure. Some people were taken to hospital for checks and accompanied by our health workers, and have already been discharged in good condition. The area of the pavilion affected by the fire has, at the moment, been isolated and made safe." The mayor of Bagno a Ripoli, Francesco Pignotti, claimed the fire had caused a "night of fear" but was grateful that no one was hurt as he heaped praise to the response of the Fire Brigade. He said: "The images of the flames at Viola Park are terrible. A night of fear that fortunately did not cause serious damage to people. The three boys and the adult taken to the hospital are under observation but are fine. We are in contact with Fiorentina and our entire community is close to them. Thanks to the firefighters and the staff who intervened promptly, avoiding the worst." This season Fiorentina, where David de Gea now calls home, finished sixth ahead of the likes of Lazio and AC Milan and will play in next year's Europa Conference League. David de Gea responds as another Man Utd exit confirmed in touching tribute
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea responded after the announcement that Victor Lindelof will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season Victor Lindelof bid an emotional farewell to Manchester United as his departure from Old Trafford was officially announced this weekend. Amid the heartfelt day, Maja Lindelof documented the couple's last matchday on Instagram, expressing her appreciation for the club. "We grew up here," she reflected. "Thank you for all the love. The best years of my life." Following the reveal of a farewell gift that United presented for her children, she expressed heartfelt gratitude, remarking: "The people behind the scenes at this club, not sure what we would do without them all these years." Wayne Rooney tells Man Utd to re-sign star they let go as three targets named
Wayne Rooney has revealed his Manchester United transfer wish-list following the worst Premier League season in the club's history, and it includes the return of a title-winner Wayne Rooney has identified three key signings that could help Manchester United bounce back from their worst-ever Premier League season. And one of them is a return for former goalkeeper David de Gea. The Red Devils, who have won the Premier League a record 13 times, are currently languishing in 16th place with a record low of 39 points. Despite their chronic struggles in the league, United will salvage Champions League football from the season if they can defeat Tottenham in Wednesday's Europa League final in Bilbao. However, the squad clearly needs a complete overhaul to compete at the highest level domestically and in Europe next season. Rooney, United's all-time leading goalscorer, believes that the addition of his former team-mate De Gea, along with striker Victor Osimhen and defender Marc Guehi, could be the catalyst for a turnaround. Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport, the former England forward said: "I'd probably sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job. "The second one, I would sign Osimhen. He's a number nine, I think he's a really good striker and possibly available. And the third one, it would be difficult but I'd sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a centre-back, I think he would have a really good impact on the club." De Gea enjoyed 12 seasons at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League title once and being crowned United's Player of the Season four times. The 34-year-old was let go in July 2023 and spent nearly a year searching for a new team before joining Fiorentina at the start of this season. The Spaniard has been a standout performer for the Serie A side, helping them to secure European football while making it to the Europa Conference League semi-finals. He is set to face United in a pre-season match this summer, which will undoubtedly be an emotional encounter for the Spaniard. His replacement, Andre Onana, who was brought in for his superior ball-playing skills, has made numerous high-profile blunders since his £47.2million arrival from Ajax in 2023. Osimhen, meanwhile, is one of Europe's top striking talents, having recently helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Cup while on loan from Napoli. The Manchester Evening News reports that United are eyeing Ipswich Town's Liam Delap as their main striker next season, although the Red Devils have previously been linked with the prolific Nigerian. Meanwhile, another United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has made it clear what he thinks the team needs. He said: "Forget Delap's ability, potential, whatever you want to say about him. It's not about that right now for Man United. I think they need experience in there. "Someone who knows how to score and someone that these younger guys can learn off. Rasmus Hojlund needs help. He doesn't need a competitor." England and Crystal Palace defender Guehi is in demand too. The 24-year-old, who has been linked with Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham, will come with a hefty price tag, especially after helping Palace to FA Cup glory against Manchester City.
