Fire rips through Fiorentina's training ground as four people rushed to hospital

Fiorentina's training ground was on fire on Saturday night with firefighters needing hours to control the blaze as four people were taken to hospital following the incident Fiorentina's training ground was engulfed by fire on Saturday night as a terrifying blaze resulted in four people being rushed to hospital as firefighters attempted to contain the situation in Italy. Flames broke out from inside a pavilion that provides accommodation for young Fiorentina players at Viola Park, according to reports. The entire area was evacuated with the fire continuing to burn throughout the night. ‌ It is is understood that the flames started at around 2:15am and led the Florence fire command and the Pontassieve detachment to send 20 units to the site, which included ladder trucks, tankers and an air wagon. Extinguishing operations had to continue until 6:15am. ‌ Four people - three boys and an adult accompanying them - were taken to hospital for checks due to exposure to the fumes. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. The building has been deemed unusable after the scary incident. Fiorentina put out a statement following the incident which read: "During the night a fire, the causes of which are still unclear, broke out inside a room in the pavilion dedicated to the youth sector of the 'Rocco B. Commisso' Viola Park. "The alarm system, emergency procedures and the preparation of the staff present ensured the rapid evacuation of the structure. Some people were taken to hospital for checks and accompanied by our health workers, and have already been discharged in good condition. The area of the pavilion affected by the fire has, at the moment, been isolated and made safe." ‌ The mayor of Bagno a Ripoli, Francesco Pignotti, claimed the fire had caused a "night of fear" but was grateful that no one was hurt as he heaped praise to the response of the Fire Brigade. He said: "The images of the flames at Viola Park are terrible. A night of fear that fortunately did not cause serious damage to people. The three boys and the adult taken to the hospital are under observation but are fine. We are in contact with Fiorentina and our entire community is close to them. Thanks to the firefighters and the staff who intervened promptly, avoiding the worst." This season Fiorentina, where David de Gea now calls home, finished sixth ahead of the likes of Lazio and AC Milan and will play in next year's Europa Conference League. They missed out on a European final when they were beaten by Real Betis in the semi-finals. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. David de Gea responds as another Man Utd exit confirmed in touching tribute

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea responded after the announcement that Victor Lindelof will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season Victor Lindelof bid an emotional farewell to Manchester United as his departure from Old Trafford was officially announced this weekend. The Swedish defender joined from Benfica in 2017 in a £30m deal during Jose Mourinho's tenure, aiming to strengthen the team's back line. Throughout various managerial changes, Lindelof has been a mainstay for the Red Devils, clocking up 284 appearances. ‌ This season saw his role within the first team reduced, with only 16 Premier League outings. Nevertheless, Lindelof enjoyed a full game on Sunday, helping United to seal a season-ending victory against Aston Villa. ‌ Following the match, United's social media channels paid tribute to Lindelof, who also took to his own account to express his gratitude. "There's nothing on earth like being a Red," he shared. "Manchester, thank you from the bottom of my heart." The post quickly drew responses, including a love heart emoji from his ex-teammate David de Gea. Christian Eriksen, who is set to leave at the season's close, alongside Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez, sent their well wishes to Lindelof as well. Amid the heartfelt day, Maja Lindelof documented the couple's last matchday on Instagram, expressing her appreciation for the club. "We grew up here," she reflected. "Thank you for all the love. The best years of my life." Following the reveal of a farewell gift that United presented for her children, she expressed heartfelt gratitude, remarking: "The people behind the scenes at this club, not sure what we would do without them all these years." ‌ Lindelof, Christian Eriksen and Jonny Evans are all leaving on free transfers this summer at the end of their contracts. But Matheus Cunha is on his way, after United agreed to trigger the £62.5million release clause in his Wolves contract. United have agreed to pay Wolves in three instalments, of £20.8m, as stipulated in his deal at Molineux, having initially asked to spread the cost across five payments and additional years. Wayne Rooney tells Man Utd to re-sign star they let go as three targets named

Wayne Rooney has revealed his Manchester United transfer wish-list following the worst Premier League season in the club's history, and it includes the return of a title-winner Wayne Rooney has identified three key signings that could help Manchester United bounce back from their worst-ever Premier League season. And one of them is a return for former goalkeeper David de Gea. The Red Devils, who have won the Premier League a record 13 times, are currently languishing in 16th place with a record low of 39 points. Their dismal league performances have continued under Ruben Amorim, who replaced the sacked Erik ten Hag in November. ‌ Despite their chronic struggles in the league, United will salvage Champions League football from the season if they can defeat Tottenham in Wednesday's Europa League final in Bilbao. ‌ However, the squad clearly needs a complete overhaul to compete at the highest level domestically and in Europe next season. Rooney, United's all-time leading goalscorer, believes that the addition of his former team-mate De Gea, along with striker Victor Osimhen and defender Marc Guehi, could be the catalyst for a turnaround. Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport, the former England forward said: "I'd probably sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job. "The second one, I would sign Osimhen. He's a number nine, I think he's a really good striker and possibly available. And the third one, it would be difficult but I'd sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a centre-back, I think he would have a really good impact on the club." De Gea enjoyed 12 seasons at Old Trafford, winning the Premier League title once and being crowned United's Player of the Season four times. The 34-year-old was let go in July 2023 and spent nearly a year searching for a new team before joining Fiorentina at the start of this season. The Spaniard has been a standout performer for the Serie A side, helping them to secure European football while making it to the Europa Conference League semi-finals. He is set to face United in a pre-season match this summer, which will undoubtedly be an emotional encounter for the Spaniard. His replacement, Andre Onana, who was brought in for his superior ball-playing skills, has made numerous high-profile blunders since his £47.2million arrival from Ajax in 2023. ‌ Osimhen, meanwhile, is one of Europe's top striking talents, having recently helped Galatasaray win the Turkish Cup while on loan from Napoli. The Manchester Evening News reports that United are eyeing Ipswich Town's Liam Delap as their main striker next season, although the Red Devils have previously been linked with the prolific Nigerian. Meanwhile, another United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has made it clear what he thinks the team needs. He said: "Forget Delap's ability, potential, whatever you want to say about him. It's not about that right now for Man United. I think they need experience in there. ‌ "Someone who knows how to score and someone that these younger guys can learn off. Rasmus Hojlund needs help. He doesn't need a competitor." England and Crystal Palace defender Guehi is in demand too. The 24-year-old, who has been linked with Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham, will come with a hefty price tag, especially after helping Palace to FA Cup glory against Manchester City. Wayne Rooney urges Man Utd to sign two Chelsea targets worth £134m

Wayne Rooney has urged Sir Jim Ratcliffe to re-sign former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and beat Chelsea to two deals worth £134m this summer. Ruben Amorim hopes to bolster his squad at Old Trafford regardless of the outcome of the upcoming Europa League final against Tottenham. Winning the Bilbao final will not only give Manchester United a major trophy but secure their return to the Champions League. Lifting the trophy on May 21 will be a huge boost to Amorim, who has watched United slip from 14th to 16th since he replaced Erik ten Hag back in November. Manchester United were just a few points outside of the Champions League places when Ten Hag was dismissed but United are closer to the relegation zone than Europe with one league game remaining. A 1-0 loss to Chelsea on Friday night was the Red Devils' 18th league defeat of the season and means they may still not reach 40 points for the season. One of the key areas Amorim hopes to strengthen in the summer is up front with £72m signing Rasmus Hojlund enduring a dismal season, scoring just four goals in the Premier League. Manchester United have expressed interest in Sporting Lisbon talisman Viktor Gyokeres and Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap but Rooney wants long-time Chelsea target Victor Osimhen to arrive at Old Trafford instead. Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer after spending this season on loan at Galatasaray and scoring 35 goals for the Turkish champions-elect. Rooney wants United to beat Chelsea to another deal this summer by signing FA Cup-winning captain Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Chelsea tried to sign their former academy player last summer and are ready to revive their interest in the £70m-rated England centre-back at the end of the season. Many Manchester United fans are hoping for a new goalkeeper to arrive through the doors to replace Andre Onana and Rooney appears to agree, suggesting a shock summer move for Old Trafford hero De Gea. De Gea was forced out of the Theatre of Dreams in 2023 after making over 500 appearances for United and being named the club's Player of the Year four times. More Trending The ex-Spain international joined Serie A side Fiorentina last summer but Rooney would welcome him back to Manchester United. Asked which players United should target this summer, Rooney told Amazon Prime: 'I would probably sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him and he could still do a very good job for United. 'I would sign Victor Osimhen as the No. 9. I think he's a good striker and would possibly be available this summer. 'The third one would be difficult but I would try to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. I think he would have a really good impact on the club.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. United have had a conflicting season, excelling - and going unbeaten - in the Europa League while hitting new lows at 16th in the Premier League. Enter Rooney - United's all-time top scorer, 253 goals, has suggested three players that could swing their fortunes: Fiorentina's former red David de Gea (GK) Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi (CB) Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen (FW) Rooney said: "I'd probably sign David de Gea, Manchester United have missed him and I think he could still do a very good job." READ MORE ON MAN UTD NEW CHAPTER Man Utd legend releases EIGHT players including Newcastle fans' favourite De Gea fell out of favour at Old Trafford but since his move to Italy last year he has kept 11 clean sheets with Serie A ninth-placed Fiorentina. The former Premier League star Rooney has not hit the same staggering heights in the dugout as he did as a player - which some fans on social media have brutally pointed out in disagreement with his picks. One said: "Ah yes, this makes a lot of sense on why he doesn't last long in managerial roles. "Amazing player, but wow. We have plenty of CB options. Need a reliable right 10." The goalkeeper spot is a sore point after No1 Andre Onana has proved to be blunder-prone and his replacement Altay Bayindir not necessarily a safer bet. United are in dire need of defensive reinforcements with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro struggling for form and fitness, with Lisandro Martinez also a long-term casualty. In attack, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have endured horrid seasons, with fresh blood in attack sorely needed if they're to return to their glory days.
