PlayStation launches massive Gamescom sale with PS5 and PS4 games from $4 — here's 12 deals I'd buy this weekend
Gamescom 2025 kicks off next week, and to mark the annual video game trade show, PlayStation Store has launched a new sales event with deals on PS5 and PS4 games starting from just $4. The deals include big savings on new releases like Monster Hunter Wilds and Days Gone Remastered, as well as some classics dropping to rock-bottom prices, including Alien Isolation, and now is the perfect time to play with "Alien: Earth" debuting on FX/Hulu earlier this week. I'm rounding up my favorite deals in the new PlayStation Store sale down below, and I've also found some epic deals at Amazon to give you even more choices ahead of a whole weekend of PlayStation gaming. In Dying Light 2 Stay Human, you'll control Aiden Caldwell, a skilled survivor searching for his lost sister in a city overrun with zombies. The game focuses on parkour, combat and making choices that impact the story and the fate of the city's factions. Plus, it's been consistently updated with new content since its initial launch in spring 2022. Experience the original Dead Rising with improved graphics across the board in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. This upgraded version of the 2006 classic sees you play as Frank West as he investigates the nightmare situation at Williamette Parkview Mall. Along the way, you'll rescue survivors and defeat memorable bosses, and also fight your way through an entire horde of undead zombies. Final Fantasy XVI is a mature, action-focused reinvention of Square Enix's long-running RPG franchise that spins a yarn closer to "Game of Thrones" than any of the previous entries. In FF16, you play Clive Rosfield, son of the Duke of Rosaria. After a tragic opening, you're forced to become a "Bearer" for another ruler, and set off for a gripping tale that's laden with twists, wielding all kinds of powers in precise, real-time battles as you travel the length and breadth of Valisthea. Sonic X Shadow Generations combines a remaster of 2011's Sonic Generations, a love letter to the Blue Blur that remains a fan-favorite to this day, with a new Shadow-focused campaign. It's a strong package, and it's perfectly timed to coincide with the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, which is now available to watch on streaming, so you can have a whole Sonic X Shadow-themed weekend. We're in a golden age of horror remakes, and Silent Hill 2 is among the very best. This stunning new take on the survival-horror classic sees you step into the fog-blanketed town as James Sunderland, a man on the hunt for his missing wife. Tense and atmospheric, it's fantastic. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the game the PS5 was born to play. In this stylish intergalactic adventure, you'll take control of seasoned heroes Ratchet and Clank — as well as their distaff counterparts, Rivet and Kit. With 10 huge planets to explore, tons of weapons to customize and upgrade, a variety of enemies to fight, and plenty of puzzles to solve, Rift Apart is an absolute joy from start to finish. Kingdom Come Deliverance II is a vast RPG sequel that sees you once again step into the boots of Henry, a young nobleman on a quest for revenge in medieval Bohemia. Designed to be as immersive as possible, the world reacts to your actions, and most quests can be completed in a myriad of ways. Its more restrictive elements may be off-putting to some players, but if you're looking for a sprawling quest that gives you plenty of freedom, few do it better than KCDII. Returnal is a heart-pounding PS5 game that combines bullet-hell gameplay with an engaging roguelike structure. You play an astronaut stuck in a time loop on a mysterious and very deadly alien planet. It's your job to break the cycle and unravel the mystery of this strange new world and how you came to be stranded here. Long before Elden Ring, Bloodborne and Dark Souls, From Software released Demon's Souls, the first Souls title to truly establish the core gameplay loop that has taken the gaming world by storm. For the current generation, Sony had Bluepoint develop this faithful, beautiful remaster, which improves on the original title and updates it with amazing graphics, new weapons, and items. Split Fiction is a co-op adventure where two writers, Mio and Zoe, get trapped in a chaotic mix of their own stories. One minute, you're dodging cyber ninjas, the next, you're riding dragons. It's all about teamwork, solving puzzles, and navigating wild genre mashups to escape their own imaginations. Metaphor ReFantazio, an original fantasy adventure that combines social sim elements with stylish turn-based combat, comes from the creator of the acclaimed Persona series. Yes, it's basically Persona in a fantasy setting, but that's a recipe for success, and Metaphor easily gets its hooks into you. It's also meaty, with even a rushed playthrough taking several dozen hours.

I just beat Days Gone Remastered on PS5 Pro — and it's one of the most underrated PlayStation games
In a lot of ways, Days Gone is the black sheep of the PS4 library. Released in 2019, at a time when PlayStation Studios was dropping critically acclaimed gems on the regular, it landed with a bit of a dull thud. The Bend Studio-developed open-world zombie game didn't reach the same heights as its contemporaries like God of War, The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima. But Days Gone Remastered has now arrived on PS5, and represents something of a second chance for the game to find a bigger audience. While I doubt this remastering points to a full sequel (reportedly, plans for one were scrapped after the underwhelming reception of the first game), it does offer gamers who skipped Days Gone the first time a perfect excuse to see what they missed. And if you were one of the many who glossed over the game upon its initial release, I implore you to circle back, because Days Gone Remastered really is worth experiencing. The best way I can describe Days Gone is that it's pretty much 'Sons of Anarchy' mashed with 'The Walking Dead' in video game form. And come on, try and tell me that doesn't sound appealing! You play a drifter named Deacon St John, who trudles around a zombie-infested Pacific Northwest, taking on bounties and trying to find out what happened to his missing wife. Your main means of traversing the game's sizeable open-world setting is via a motorbike, and it's this inclusion that really makes Days Gone so compelling. Your bike is essentially a roving base; you can only save when you're nearby, and you can store additional supplies in its various compartments. The bike is also upgradable. It starts barely roadworthy, but by the endgame, you have a powerful hog that purrs with ferocity. Getting the additional reputation points required to unlock each new series of bike upgrades made me want to complete as much side content as possible. But outside of its predictable open-world trapping — you'll find the usual assortment of bandit camps and zombie (called 'Freakers' here) nests — Days Gone's meaty main campaign is the real draw. You get plenty of bang for your buck. Even a rushed run will take you 30 hours. If you want to see everything on offer, expect to double that playtime. A common complaint at launch was that the story meanders in its first act. I can't counter this. The core narrative takes a while to get going, but once you unlock the second region, things start to click into gear, and the finale builds to something quite exciting. I do wish my companions would cool it with the radio calls, though, as you're constantly interrupted, which gets annoying. Admittedly, there's a slightly generic quality to Days Gone. It's third-person action combat, which mixes stealth with melee brawls and shoot-outs, is routine, and it launched into a media landscape oversaturated with zombies. Nevertheless, generic doesn't mean bad, and I maintain that Days Gone remains just as enjoyable to play in 2025 on PS5 as it did back in 2019 on PS4. Perhaps the bigger question with Days Gone is whether it even needed remastering in the first place. Sony has taken plenty of online flak in recent years for its habit of remastering titles that still hold up to a modern standard (Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered is the most egregious example). Days Gone probably falls into the category of games where a remastering was largely unnecessary. While it was a native PS4 release, it was fully playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility, and its original visuals hold up extremely well. Plus, it already received a free update that enabled the game to run at a smooth 60 fps on the PS5 console. The Remastered edition does at least add a small smattering of additional content, including a permadeath option and new mode called Horde Assault (though to be honest, the battles with vast hordes of zombies never quite appealed to be in the base game). It also beefs up the game's accessibility settings (always a good thing) and adds full DualSense controller support. If you're playing on PS5 Pro, the remaster adds a new visual mode and takes advantage of the premium console's PSSR capabilities. So while I doubt many players were crying out for the remaster, it's now the definitive way to play the game, and it gave me an excuse to return to a title that had been in 'I really need to replay this' backlog for more than five years. Which is enough for me. I'll also give Sony credit for creating an upgrade path for pre-existing owners of the original. If you already own Days Gone on PS4, you can upgrade to the Remastered edition for just $10, which feels like a pretty reasonable price point for the extra bells and whistles. Whether you're returning to the broken road or you've never driven down these apocalyptic streets before, I encourage you to give Days Gone Remastered a shot. Who knows, perhaps if this remastering sparks enough renewed interest in the IP, we'll get that sequel after all. I certainly hope so.

If you're only going to play one PlayStation zombie game, make it The Last Of Us. But if you're going to play two, then Days Gone, with its hordes of undead, is a humdinger!
Days Gone Remastered (PlayStation 5, £44.99) Verdict: Back from the dead Rating: As Dinah Washington almost sang, what a difference six-and-a-bit years makes. When Sony first released Days Gone as its latest, PlayStation-exclusive blockbuster back in 2019, most gamers were unimpressed — and you can kind of see why. Here was another moody zombie story with a grizzled, taciturn lead character, when PlayStation already had the superior The Last Of Us. Here was another open-world checklist, when we already had our fill of Assassin's Creed and Far Cry releases. And, to top it all off, here was a game that strained against the capabilities of the hardware at the time, often to breaking point. It was all rather underwhelming. In the years since, however, the original Days Gone has been refined and expanded — so that it now has a vocal band of adherents. And, in the spirit of last week's Oblivion remaster, it's also just gained a prettier, smoother version for the PlayStation 5. A re-evaluation is certainly in order. Here was another moody zombie story with a grizzled, taciturn lead character, when PlayStation already had the superior The Last Of Us And, in the spirit of last week's Oblivion remaster, it's also just gained a prettier, smoother version for the PlayStation 5. A re-evaluation is certainly in order. Of course, some of those original concerns still remain; if you're going to play only one PlayStation zombie game, you better make it The Last Of Us. But, with the remaster, it's now easier to see Days Gone's distinctive features — and to enjoy them too. One is main character Deacon's motorbike, your primary means of getting around the game's sodden, wooded corner of Oregon. It feels great in the hands — that is, through the PS5's DualSense controller — but it's also something more than that. You quickly learn that this bike is your best friend in the game, a thing to be cherished and tinkered with. Then there are Deacon's sporadic encounters with great, seething zombie hordes, for which you've got to use everything at your disposal: guns, explosives, even your little grey cells. It's no surprise that a new 'Horde' mode has been added to this remastered version of the game, so that you can enjoy this creative craziness outside of the main story. It's such an impressive feature.

All new game modes in Days Gone Remastered, how to do them, and more
(Image Via Bend Studio) Days Gone Remastered has reignited the fight for survival with the new brutal challenges. The about-to-be-launched remaster game on April 25, 2025, on PC and PS5, introduces 3 brutal new game modes, with each of them offering unique challenges. Whether you are into fighting the 800-strong Freaker hordes or love to race against clocks, the newly introduced modes by Bend Studio will test the survival skills of the players like never before. Here is the list of all the Days Gone Remastered game modes with details on how to play them and more. Survive Horde Assault Mode's Freaker attacks The Horde Assault mode is the new arcade survival mode in Days Gone Remastered. It throws the players into the massive open area with hordes of approx. 800 Freakers. They are far larger than the biggest swarm of the original game. Unlike the story mode, here you will start with maxed-out weapons, the fully upgraded bike, and 24 gameplay modifiers (Injectors), like the Exploding Freakers (on death, the enemies burst) and Wanted (maximum difficulty right from the start). The goal here is to survive as long as possible while completing the Side Jobs for some extra XPs and loot. The mode even introduces some new enemies and their types, like Reachers, Rager Bears, and Breakers, right alongside the human ambushers. The success here unlocks at 35 reward tiers, including the playable characters like O'Brian and Skizzo. There are also cosmetics and secret bike upgrades here. Race against the clock in Speedrun Mode If you thrive under pressure, the mode adds a real-time tracker. It records the best completion times of yours across all the difficulties. The timer pauses during the cutscenes and ensures fair competition. Bend Studio has designed the mode for the veterans and the newcomers, letting them test their mastery of the Days Gone world. At your run's end, you will get the detailed statistics breakdown, showing the best splits and your total playtime. The key to your success here is minimal combat delays, efficient route planning, and smart bike upgrades that allow you to save precious seconds. Enjoy the ultimate survival challenge with Permadeath Mode It is one of the most punishing additions within Days Gone Remastered. The Permadeath mode erases your save file, if the Deacon died, even once. The mode takes inspiration from the fan demand and comes with 2 settings. Whole Game- where you will have to restart from scratch if you die. Per Act- allowing you to reset to the start of the act. Bend Studio has warned that the trees in the mode are the deadliest threat in the mode. To survive the challenge, scavenge constantly while you avoid any reckless fights and give priority to the Tucker's camp early on for better weapons. Moreover, the mode is perfect for players who want true hardcore survival, where all the decisions would mean the game is over. Days Gone Remastered visual upgrades and accessibility features Beyond the new modes, Days Gone Remastered will enhance your game with improved lighting, realistic night cycles, and deeper fog effects. The Photo Mode will include dynamic time-shifting that will be perfect for capturing the eerie beauty of Oregon. Some accessibility options, like the custom difficulty sliders and adjustable game speed, will further make the experience smoother for the players. Whether you are for the challenge or the atmosphere, the game will deliver what you are looking for. Remember, Days Gone Remastered is not just the fresh paint coating but a substantial upgrade with the modes that will reinvent the gameplay. While Horde Assault will ensure chaotic fun, Speedrun Mode will perfectly cater to competitive players. As for Permadeath, it will give an unmatched tension for sure. Either be your choice, the game about to release on April 25, 2025, might just be a definitive means to experience the journey of Deacon. So, play it.
