Coming Soon: DML Summer Reading Challenge
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Metro Library 2025 Summer Reading Challenge is kicking off soon. This year's challenge, 'Color Our World,' begins in partnership with the Dayton Art Institute on Saturday, May 31. The youth challenge is open to anyone under the age of 18. Participants will earn free books after 15, 30, and 45 days of activity. Prizes will be available for pickup while supplies last, or through Saturday, Aug. 9, at any Dayton Metro Library branch. Kids have the option of either a physical progress tracker, available for pickup, or an online tracker available through BeanStack here. One lucky reader will have a chance to win the grand prize, a $2,500 CollegeAdvantage Savings Award. Parents/guardians will need to enter the sweepstakes on behalf of their child online by Aug. 9. Daughter of Malcolm X speaks at DML about father's legacy Adults looking to engage in the summer fun can enter the Adult Challenge. This challenge will be tracked using a BINGO Challenge Board. These boards can be found both in person and online through BeanStack. When readers finish their BINGO challenge board, they will be eligible to redeem a small prize at any library branch and can enter to win a Branch Raffle Basket. Winners will be notified by Wednesday, Aug. 13. The Dayton Art Institute will host a Library Card Day on Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving cardholders free entry to the museum. Museum to offer free general admission on selected Sundays

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – To make art accessible to everyone regardless of financial background, the Dayton Art Institute (DAI) will offer free admission days. The first 'Art For All' Day will be on Sunday, June 1, when the DAI will offer free general admission to all visitors. This special initiative will give guests free access to the collection galleries and the Special and Focus Exhibitions. The museum's patron sponsors, Ramona and Todd Vikan; and supporting sponsors, Eric and Karen Spina, have made this initiative possible. Free summer admission for military families at Dayton Art Institute There will be two more 'Art for All' days on Sunday, August 17 and Sunday, December 7. Free summer admission for military families at Dayton Art Institute
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Military families will be able to view art for free this summer through an annual initiative. The Dayton Art Institute has announced it will again join the Blue Star Museums initiative to give military families free admission all summer. The program will start on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17, and end on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1. This program is open to active-duty personnel and their families. This national initiative is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. For a full list of participating museums, click here. 'At the DAI, we are incredibly proud to participate in the Blue Star Museums program each year as a way to honor and thank the brave military families who sacrifice so much for our country,' said Michael Roediger, DAI director and president. Roediger says its more than just free admission. 'It's our invitation for military families to find moments of joy, connection and inspiration at the museum, time and time again. We hope they'll visit often, not just in the summer, but throughout the year,' said Rodiger. Multiple local schools receive Purple Star Award for supporting military families This program is open to all active-duty members of the United States Military and up to five of their family members. Those included are the following: Air Force Army Coast Guard Marine Corps Members of the Reserves National Guard Navy NOAA Commissioned Corps Space Force U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps People who qualify must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card for entrance. Dayton Art Institute preparing for ‘signature event'
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A new event to help 'preserve and protect' artwork at the Dayton Art Institute is occurring in early spring. Curated, a 'signature event,' is scheduled to happen at the museum from 6 to 9 p.m. on April 3. The event will allow guests to enjoy cocktails, as well as gourmet and tasty treats, while helping raise funds to protect a piece of artwork called 'Contemplation on Manjushri's Buddha Field.' Guests will receive a punch card for sampling the different varieties of alcohol. With funds, DAI plans to preserve the piece by the following: Repair tears in the fabric Stabilize loose paint and textile brand Allow safer display and handling Michael Roediger, director and president of DAI, said the venue wants to obtain and upkeep its collection, and can be supported by the event. 'At the Dayton Art Institute, we are trusted stewards of the art, committed to caring for and preserving the priceless community treasures contained within the museum collection,' said Roediger.
