Brookville Block Party: Artisans, music and fun coming soon
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The annual Brookville Block Party will feature local artisans, live music, carnival games, face painting and more this Saturday, June 14. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and be held at the Brookville Branch of the Dayton Metro Library, on Blue Pride Drive. It will feature over 70 local craft and food vendors. Brookville holding city-wide garage sale throughout June Here is the event schedule: 10 a.m. to noon, the Caitlin Davis Band will perform. 11 a.m. to noon, face painting Noon to 2 p.m., The Mountain Dulcimers performance. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., classical guitar with Ian Stukenborg. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., carnival games designed by the library. Dayton Metro Library hosts free family summer film series downtown
Previous coverage on the NEON. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The annual Dayton Metro Library's Summer Family Film Series is set to provide educational resources for young families. This free program is held through a triple partnership between DML, The NEON cinema and the local PBS affiliate station. Attendees will enjoy a read-along video, a PBS Kids program and a craft/activity on The NEON's cozy outside patio. Dayton Metro Library offers free lunches, and more for kids this summer Doors open at 10:30 a.m. every Saturday. Showtime is 11 a.m. Tickets are free, but are first-come, first-served basis. The full schedule is as follows. June 14: 'Be My Neighbor' A Daniel Tiger Friendship Celebration and a hands-on activity. (Ages 2-4) June 21: 'Carl the Collector' and creating collection jars. (Ages 4-8) June 28: 'Puppy Love: Tales of Tails' and visiting puppies from Adopt-A-Pit. (Families) July 5: 'Dinosaur Adventures' and digging for fossils/making dinosaur footprints. (Ages 3-5) July 12: 'Work it Out Wombats: Solving Problems Together' and making a whirligig. (Ages 3-6) July 19: 'The Wild Kratts: Wild Cats & Planet Heroes' and a visit from Five Rivers MetroParks with some of their special friends. Former library fiscal officer owes over $1.7K, state auditor says
The former Dayton Metro Library fiscal officer will have to pay back over $1,700 after she failed to submit federal tax withholdings on time. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Christina Sanders, the former fiscal officer for Dayton Metro Library, failed to submit federal tax withholdings on time, resulting in late fees and penalties, according to an Ohio Auditor of State media release. A finding for recovery of $1,751.54 was issued Tuesday against Sanders. As a result of late federal tax filings, auditors identified penalties paid by the library in two quarters in 2021. There wouldn't have been any late fees if the payroll withholdings had been paid on time, according to the release. Dayton Metro Library offers free lunches, and more for kids this summer
Previous coverage of the Dayton Metro Library above. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – To bridge the gap while schools are out, the Dayton Metro Library is offering summer resources for kids in the Miami Valley. The resources include everything from free lunches, games, activities, tutoring and pre-k prep. Local library opens applications for upcoming Writer and Author's Symposium DPS Summer Lunches: These lunches will help fight food insecurity and give kids/teens a friendly place to hang out. Both the West Branch and the Northwest Branch will have lunches, Monday through Friday, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. The program will run until July 31. (There will be no lunch service on Juneteenth and the Fourth of July.) Homework Help, Summer Edition: Available to kids from First Grade to those entering Senior year. This unique program will teach kids STEM concepts, make cool art projects with help from local artists and grow a garden to learn about healthy will be available at the Burkhardt, Northwest, and West Branches Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The program will run until August 6. (There will be no homework help class on Juneteenth.) Kids under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Y on the Fly: Every Wednesday, the Northwest Branch will host the YMCA's mobile unit from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Kids/teens can enjoy fun games and free healthy snacks. The last Wednesday the mobile unit will visit is July 30. Kettering Health boosting cybersecurity as recovery from attack continues Kindergarten Club: This program is created for kids who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. Kids and their parents/guardians will get to enjoy a variety of activities. Caregivers will be giving tips on teaching early-literacy activities, social/emotional learning opportunities and skills in their homes. Local library opens applications for upcoming Writer and Author's Symposium
Previous coverage of the Dayton Metro Library. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Metro Library is now receiving applications for its 2025 Writer and Author's Symposium. This is an exciting opportunity for writers to engage with the vibrant local community. There are two open roles for the event. Featured Writers: These writers will be able to directly engage with readers, promote and sell their books. Facilitators: A collection of writers, publishers, and editors who will critique the first ten pages of an emerging writer's work. This will help them improve their work and give them vital feedback. Any writer in the Miami Valley interested in either position for the Symposium can apply here, by of before Friday, July 11. Dayton Library to host senior pizza parties with college help If selected, the DML will contact the writer with additional information. Anyone can visit the Symposium, which will be held on Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., throughout the Main Library downtown. There will be workshops, mini writing-themed activities and an exploration of local authors. Registration is not required.
