Dayton Metro Library offers free lunches, and more for kids this summer

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – To bridge the gap while schools are out, the Dayton Metro Library is offering summer resources for kids in the Miami Valley.
The resources include everything from free lunches, games, activities, tutoring and pre-k prep.
Local library opens applications for upcoming Writer and Author's Symposium
DPS Summer Lunches: These lunches will help fight food insecurity and give kids/teens a friendly place to hang out. Both the West Branch and the Northwest Branch will have lunches, Monday through Friday, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. The program will run until July 31. (There will be no lunch service on Juneteenth and the Fourth of July.)
Homework Help, Summer Edition: Available to kids from First Grade to those entering Senior year. This unique program will teach kids STEM concepts, make cool art projects with help from local artists and grow a garden to learn about healthy eating.This will be available at the Burkhardt, Northwest, and West Branches Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The program will run until August 6. (There will be no homework help class on Juneteenth.) Kids under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Y on the Fly: Every Wednesday, the Northwest Branch will host the YMCA's mobile unit from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Kids/teens can enjoy fun games and free healthy snacks. The last Wednesday the mobile unit will visit is July 30.
Kettering Health boosting cybersecurity as recovery from attack continues
Kindergarten Club: This program is created for kids who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. Kids and their parents/guardians will get to enjoy a variety of activities. Caregivers will be giving tips on teaching early-literacy activities, social/emotional learning opportunities and skills in their homes.

Huber Heights Branch: Every Wednesday, June 18 – August 6, 11 a.m. to noon
Kettering-Moraine Branch: Every Friday, June 6 – August 1, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (except Fourth of July)
Main Library, Children's Creativity Space: Every Wednesday, June 11 – July 30, 10 to 11 a.m.
Miami Township Branch: Monday-Thursday, July 14 – July 24, 2 to 3 p.m.
Miamisburg Branch: Every Thursday, June 12 – July 31, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (except Juneteenth)
New Lebanon Branch: Monday-Thursday, June 9 – June 12, noon to 1 p.m.
Northmont Branch: Every Tuesday and Thursday, July 8 – July 31, 6 to 7 p.m.
Northwest Branch: Monday-Thursday, July 21 – July 31, 4 to 5 p.m.
Southeast Branch: Monday-Thursday, June 9 – June 12, 2 to 3 p.m.
Trotwood Branch: Every Tuesday and Thursday, July 22 – August 14, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Vandalia Branch: Every Monday, June 9 – July 28, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
West Branch: Every Monday, June 16 – July 28, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
West Carrollton Branch: Every Friday, June 6 – August 1,10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (except July 4)
Wilmington-Stroop Branch: Monday-Thursday, July 14 – July 24, 1 to 2 p.m.

Child flown to hospital following Greene Co. crash
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A juvenile was flown to the hospital after a crash in Greene County Thursday evening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Xenia Post is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 7 p.m. in the 4200 block of Hussey Road. Investigation revealed a 2021 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence and hit a child in the front yard. OSP dispatchers confirmed one child was flown to Dayton Children's with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation by the Xenia Post at this time. Recycle unwanted appliances during event this weekend
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Those looking to get rid of large appliances can recycle them during an event this weekend. The Montgomery County Environmental Services is hosting an Appliance Amnesty weekend. Unwanted appliances will be taken for free with proof of residency at the Montgomery County Solid Waste District Transfer and Recycling Facility. WPAFB working to combat forever chemicals, water contamination Those interested can drop off appliances at the facility at 1001 Encrete Lane in Moraine on June 5-6 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refrigerators, air conditions, water heaters and stoves will all be accepted for free with proof of residency.
