Some concerned after second gunfire incident at DeLand bar
Deland police are planning to give an update on the gunfire outside McCabe's Bar over the weekend that they say was all over a $5 beer. It's the second shooting incident to happen there in less than a month. People are taking to social media sharing their concerns over a second shooting incident within three weeks at McCabe's Bar. One post said, 'McCabe's needs to hire their own security and buy a metal detector.' Calvin Gilbert, 55, was captured after being on the run after allegedly shooting at a man he got into an argument with over a beer. The victim was able to duck and miss being hit by the gunfire. Weeks earlier, a fight broke out inside the bar, where Keshod Harris was shot and killed. 'Two completely separate incidents, but this could happen anywhere,' said Paul Jones. WFTV talked with friends and family of Harris. They didn't want to go on camera but say it's a sad situation. His cousin shared online 'after what happened to my cousin, this bar hasn't taken action to make sure the customers are safe inside or outside.' One McCabe's regular said DeLand police have increased patrols. 'Chief Umberger has had people here doing drive-bys, police officers doing drive-bys. They make sure no one's in the back parking lot and everything. It's just unfortunate,' said Jones. WFTV has reached out to the bar and was told a manager would have to answer any questions. Gilbert is in jail without bail. Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps. And click here to stream Channel 9 Eyewitness News live.

Suspect in DeLand bar shooting arrested, police say
The suspect who fled the scene of a shooting at McCabe's bar was arrested on Sunday, according to the DeLand Police Department. Police arrested Calvin Roosevelt Gilbert, 55, on Sunday on charges of attempted first-degree murder and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, the agency said. Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, police allege, Gilbert was at McCabe's bar and offered to buy a man — whom he didn't know prior — a drink but at closing he demanded the man pay him back, DeLand PD said. When the man didn't pay, an argument ensued and Gilbert took out a black handgun and fired a single shot at the man standing three feet away, the police said. The man ducked and was not hit by the bullet. Through their investigation, police discovered surveillance video that showed the incident and Gilbert — who was later identified via a photo lineup by the victim — fleeing the area on foot, then getting into a tan 1999 Nissan Quest van. Gilbert was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and held on no bond, the agency said. A media conference was scheduled for Tuesday at DeLand Police Department headquarters.

DeLand Police investigating shooting outside bar; Suspect still at large
An argument over a $5 beer led to a shooting outside a bar in downtown DeLand early Saturday morning, according to the DeLand Police Department. The suspect, 54-year-old Calvin Roosevelt Gilbert, is now wanted in connection with the incident. Police report that Gilbert, who met the victim at the bar that evening, purchased them a beer. At about bout 2 am, as the bar was closing, Gilbert insisted on being repaid in the back parking lot, leading to a dispute. This escalated when Gilbert fired a gun at the victim from three feet away. The victim dodged, and the bullet hit an exterior cooler, piercing the wall of the building. At 2:05 am, officers from the DeLand Police Department and Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrived at the location and found a shell casing, along with visible damage suggesting a shooting occurred. Surveillance footage captured Gilbert running on foot and then driving away in a tan 1999 Nissan Quest van, traveling north on N. Amelia Avenue. The victim and bar staff identified Gilbert through a photo lineup. Both parties intend to press charges. No injuries were reported. The DeLand Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division is searching for Gilbert, born March 19, 1970. Authorities warn he may be armed and dangerous and urge the public not to approach him. Anyone with information should contact the DeLand Police Department or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers. No further details are available at this time.
