Former Chicago Bulls player DeMar DeRozan lists River North mansion for $6.25M
Former Chicago Bulls small forward and shooting guard DeMar DeRozan on Wednesday placed his six-bedroom, 10,179-square-foot, Georgian-style mansion in Chicago's River North neighborhood on the market for $6.25 million. DeRozan, 35, signed a three-year $85 million contract with the Bulls in August 2021. He starred with the team for three years — including two All-Star selections — before leaving the team as a free agent in 2024 and signing with the Sacramento Kings. In River North, DeRozan paid $4.5 million in 2021 through an opaque Delaware limited liability company to buy the mansion from an opaque land trust whose beneficiary was Juanita Vanoy Jordan, the former wife of Bulls legend Michael Jordan. Juanita Vanoy Jordan's land trust had purchased it as a newly built home for $4.72 million in 2007. Based on listing information, DeRozan extensively renovated the mansion, which has six full bathrooms, three half bathrooms, four fireplaces, a five-stop elevator, a recreation and billiard room, a theater room, a wine cellar, a library, a heated three-car garage and a roof deck that measures 27 feet by 70 feet, with an outdoor kitchen and grill and fireplace. The mansion also is being offered for rent for $10,000 a month. Listing agent Paul Gorney of eXp Realty did not respond to a request for comment. The mansion had a $94,946 property tax bill in the 2023 tax year.

Raptors mailbag: Trade Barrett or Agbaji and Ja'Kobe Walter's place in rotation
The somewhat new-look Toronto Raptors organization is heading to Las Vegas for Summer League complete with a loaded roster. For Part 2 of our July mailbag we got some questions about that group of prospects, more on Masai Ujiri and Bobby Webster and RJ Barrett. Article content Article content Andres Del Campo @AndyDlief: 'The feeling I get from many members of the media is that RJ Barrett is viewed as expendable. Why do Raps always chase away good players who want to stay in Toronto?' Article content Article content RW: Barrett is mentioned as expendable mostly because of his contract and a busy situation on the wing. If you're referring to DeMar DeRozan and Pascal Siakam with the last part I have mixed thoughts. DeRozan, like Barrett (especially as a Raptor), is a rare scoring machine lacking a consistent three-point shot and a major liability defensively. I don't see Barrett as being as poor defensively as DeRozan, especially after he made strides this season, partly because of more dedication to that side of the game, but the advanced stats show he doesn't really drive winning. Toronto believes in advanced metrics and in winning players so even though Barrett is a great example for Canadian fans, does have many good qualities as a player and loves being here, they will have to explore the market for him to ease luxury tax and roster concerns down the line. Article content Article content Chad Reeb @reeber93: 'Assuming RJ is no longer traded, how worried are you about spacing and defence with the starting group?' Article content RW: I don't think Barrett will be moved until the New Year, at the earliest. More concerned with spacing than with defence as Jakob Poeltl and Scottie Barnes are elite defenders and I think Brandon Ingram is about average. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley are below average defensively, but both have their moments. Plus I could see Barrett being replaced by Ochai Agbaji pretty early in games (a big upgrade defensively and from three) allowing RJ to cook as the lead scorer on the bench (even though he'll start). Article content The spacing will be a bit rough, unless Barnes takes big steps forward as a three-point shooter. Poeltl is a total non-threat from out there, Barnes was terrible from three last season, Barrett, as mentioned, is inconsistent, while Quickley is elite and Ingram can be, but prefers to operate in the mid-range.

ESPN proposes Rockets-Kings trade with DeMar DeRozan, Dillon Brooks, 2025 draft pick
In a story published Friday, ESPN's André Snellings proposed a hypothetical Rockets-Kings trade involving DeMar DeRozan, Dillon Brooks, and a 2025 draft pick. The Houston Rockets are already an elite defensive team, but they're mediocre on offense. That largely explains their ongoing trade interest in acquiring All-Star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns. But what if a deal can't be reached? ESPN's André Snellings suggested one possibility in a story published Friday about potential trades involving the 2025 NBA draft, which begins with Wednesday's first round. Snellings proposes a deal with Dillon Brooks going from the Rockets to Sacramento, along with Houston's No. 10 overall draft pick, in exchange for Kings swingman DeMar DeRozan. The explanation is as follows: DeRozan would provide a huge lift to the Rockets' half-court offense with his ability to create consistent high-level shots off the dribble while also taking some of the burden off Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun. Plus, the Rockets have a plethora of talented defenders on the wing, including Amen Thompson and Tari Eason, to replace Brooks' defensive abilities. Even without DeRozan, the Kings have plenty of scoring ability on the wing, with the additions of Zach LaVine and Malik Monk — a duo capable of combining for more than 40 points per game. The Kings also have an offense-heavy frontcourt, led by Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray. Their biggest holes this offseason are on defense and point guard, after they traded away De'Aaron Fox to bring in LaVine. Brooks, with his aggressive 3-and-D game, would fit in well on the Kings' wing. The No. 10 pick would also be an upgrade from the Kings' 13th pick that they've traded away to the Atlanta Hawks. Mock drafts project several point guard prospects could be available at No. 10, including Kasparas Jakucionis from Illinois and Egor Demin from BYU, who could develop into the Kings' point guard of the future. The deal is understandable at face value, since Houston already has a deep rotation filled with young prospects (including Reed Sheppard and Cam Whitmore, who struggled to play consistently last season). Thus, it could make sense to explore trades involving the No. 10 pick, as opposed to bringing in another lottery selection who might not have a clear path to NBA minutes. Both DeRozan and Brooks are under contract for two more seasons with very comparable salaries ($24.6 million for DeRozan next season and $22.1 million for Brooks). So, financially, the trade is very easy to pull off. It just comes down to whether the two teams would be interested in such an arrangement. DeRozan, 35, averaged 22.2 points (47.7% FG), 4.4 assists, and 3.9 assists per game last season. Brooks, 29, averaged 14.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting a career-best 39.7% from 3-point range. DeRozan is clearly the better offensive player, thanks in large part to his superior shot creation ability. From Houston's perspective, the question is whether general manager Rafael Stone would trade both Brooks and a top-10 pick for an older player with worse defense and floor spacing. Consider that DeRozan shot 32.8% on 3-pointers last season, and Brooks is widely viewed as a strong defender. From Sacramento's perspective, the question is whether they would view the No. 10 pick as sufficient compensation for a swap that lands them with a player who isn't nearly as dynamic on offense. It's far from a given that both teams would do it, but it's at least an interesting thought exercise as the first round nears. For now, though, it appears Houston is primarily focused on Durant. Eric Musselman, USC hoops host Sacarmento Kings group for workout at Galen Center
During his time as the head coach of USC men's basketball, Eric Musselman has loved bringing in NBA players and coaches to Galen Center for workouts. On Tuesday, Musselman welcomed a contingent from the Sacramento Kings: DeMar DeRozan, Zach Levine, Mason Jones and head coach Doug Christie. "Awesome having @DeMar_DeRozan, @ZachLaVine, @TheDougChristie, and @masonjones2 at the Galen Center this morning," USC's head coach wrote on social media. DeRozan, of course, is quite familiar with Galen Center, having played for the Trojans for a season in 2008-2009. That year, he led USC to a Pac-10 Tournament championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to national runner-up Michigan State. Jones, meanwhile, played for Musselman when he was the head coach at Arkansas from 2018-2020. Musselman is also familiar with Sacramento, having coached the Kings during the 2006-2007 season. After posting a 33-49 record, he was let go by the team after just one year. Fortunately for Musselman, he has found far more success at the college coaching level than he did in the NBA. USC fans are certainly hoping that Musselman will continue the success that he had at Nevada and Arkansas with the Trojans.

DeMar DeRozan gets 100% real on playing with Lonzo Ball
The post DeMar DeRozan gets 100% real on playing with Lonzo Ball appeared first on ClutchPoints. DeMar DeRozan recently opened up about playing with Lonzo Ball on the Chicago Bulls. DeRozan played with the Bulls for three seasons from 2021 to 2024 and came to Chicago at the same time as Lonzo Ball in 2021. The issue is that Ball was dealing with injuries during most of his time in Chicago while DeRozan was his teammate. Advertisement To this point, Ball has missed most of his time playing with the Bulls. He played for the first time in October 2024 since 2022. Ball and DeRozan barely played basketball together, but when they did, things came together easily, helping the offense flow much better than it did without him. On a recent Run Your Race Podcast episode with Theo Pinson and AJ Richardson, DeRozan spoke about what it was like playing with Ball and how easy everything was. He said, 'When you talk about a piece missing for something… Lonzo was that big piece of the puzzle that put everything together for all of us. He made everything so easy.' Ball's size is what makes him stand out as a point guard. At 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds, there are not many point guards like him, and that's why he presents such a matchup issue when he is healthy and able to play. The one season he was able to play with DeRozan on the Bulls, Ball had a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, and he averaged 5.1 assists per game during that season. The combination of DeRozan and Ball never got a lot of time together with the Bulls due to his injuries, and before Ball was able to come back from injury, DeRozan was traded to the Sacramento Kings in a sign-and-trade that also involved the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal. Advertisement Hearing DeRozan praise playing with Ball and how much he enjoyed it shows that it was a case of what could have been. Ball could have developed into an All-Star-level talent if it weren't for some of the injuries he has suffered in his career. Both players still play well with DeRozan in Sacramento and Ball back in Chicago, but those years with the Bulls will be filled with missed opportunities.
