Police Bodycam Footage Shows Corvette Factory Theft Suspect Arrest

Read the full story on The Auto Wire We covered before how on March 22 eight 2025 Corvettes were stolen from Bowling Green Assembly, but now we have police bodycam footage of one suspect being arrested. Police were able to recover Corvettes taken from the factory, but it seems the other suspects have gotten away, for bodycam footage, which was just released by Bowling Green Police Department on April 8, shows an officer chase the suspect, 21-year-old Deantae Walker as he ran away in a Lowe's parking lot. Walker and some other men called a car transport service to have a 2017 Corvette shipped to the Detroit area. However, when the driver showed up at the Low's parking lot, he found the men were waiting with three brand new C8 Corvettes. Thinking it was weird, the guy still started loading the sports cars. The men began pressuring him to work faster, and that coupled with undercarriage damage on one of the vehicles prompted the driver to reach out to police. When officers arrived, Walker started running through the parking lot, calling out to another man in a Jeep with Ohio license plates. His friend seemed to have ditched him as Walker was chased down, handcuffed, and arrested. Cops not only were able to recover the three stolen C8 Corvettes being loaded for transport, they found the other five the same day in two other locations. Sadly, we know those sports cars won't be delivered to customers and might even end up as scrap, all thanks to their being stolen. Walker's fate remains to be seen. We hope his accomplices are also caught before they can do another auto factory heist. Corvette theft at GM plant leads to recovery of 8 cars worth $1.2 million

A Michigan man is in custody after eight Corvettes valued at more than $1 million were stolen Saturday from the General Motors plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where the sports cars are built. Court records show that Deantae Walker, 21, of Westland faces several charges, including receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more, criminal mischief, evading police and resisting arrest. Bowling Green Police Department Public Information Officer Ronnie Ward said Wednesday that Walker is also being charged with engaging in organized crime after authorities discovered that all eight vehicles, valued at $1.2 million, left the plant at the same time. Records show police in Bowling Green were notified of the incident when the Warren County, Kentucky Sheriff's Office contacted them, saying they located what they believed to be a stolen Corvette. A witness said she saw a man driving a Corvette with a window sticker still attached at an apartment complex, and the manager of the GM plant confirmed the vehicle, along with seven others, had been stolen. As police continued to investigate, several of the other vehicles were located within 2 miles of the surrounding area. The driver was scheduled to transport one 2017 Corvette from Bowling Green to Michigan, but when he arrived, he was greeted by Walker and one other individual with three of the stolen vehicles. The driver said he was rushed by the pair to load the vehicles, but contacted police because he thought something was wrong. Walker was arrested at the scene following a "brief struggle," with assistance from bystanders. The other person drove away in a Jeep with Ohio tags. Police were still looking for that person. Records show that as Walker was later being booked into the Warren County Regional Jail, he said he would have "been paid big" had he been able to get the cars to Michigan. GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant Senior Communications Manager Rachel Bagshaw said all the vehicles have been recovered and the company is working with affected car dealers and customers. "We work with law enforcement agencies to identify emerging theft methods that affect our products and make updates as needed to defend against them," Bagshaw said. "As a result of this cooperation, we are aware of theft methods used at our facilities and employ appropriate countermeasures, the details of which cannot be shared for security reasons." Michigan man charged with stealing 8 Corvettes worth $1.2M in Kentucky heist

A 21-year-old man faces charges in a $1.2 million Corvette heist after law enforcement recovered eight luxury vehicles stolen from a Kentucky plant. Deantae Walker, of Westland, Michigan, was taken into custody Saturday in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on charges of evading police, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief. Authorities allege that Walker was involved in the theft of eight Corvettes from the General Motors plant in Bowling Green. Another man he was with fled in a Jeep with Ohio license plates, according to authorities. Bowling Green police said it was alerted to the theft by the Warren County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to an apartment complex after a woman reported seeing a man driving a red Corvette with the price sticker still on it, the incident report says. The woman said the man got out of the vehicle and ran toward the front of the apartment complex. The manager of the General Motors plant confirmed that the vehicle was from their lot. A second Corvette was found parked at the same apartment complex, and a third was found nearby. The manager told authorities that eight vehicles were missing from the plant's back lot. Authorities began searching for the other vehicles. The incident report says that a security camera from an apartment captured three vehicles coming into the complex. A man was seen in the footage exiting a light gray Corvette. "The male was wearing a green pullover sweatshirt with a red shirt under it. He had gray sweatpants and kept his hood on the entire time," the report says. "The male then walked to the front of the complex and was seen coming back. He then went to the left of the front building." As deputies continued to investigate, dispatch received a call from a transport driver who said he had a "weird" interaction with two men who wanted him to take Corvettes to Michigan. The driver said the men were rushing him as he loaded the vehicles, and the cars were damaged on the bottom. A police spokesperson said they believe at least nine people were involved in the theft. All of the vehicles were driven at the same time through a hole cut in a chain link fence at the plant. Police do not have their identities yet but anticipate other arrests once they are identified, the spokesperson said. Walker does not have any affiliation with the plant.
