James, 41, played beloved Martin Fowler from 2014 until he was killed off in the BBC soap's live 40th anniversary episode. He landed a new straightaway as the iconic Jane Austen hero Mr Darcy in the theatrical world premiere of Death Comes To Pemberley. His wife has now told of the "method to my madness" of moving into a caravan - to build their own house. Victoria revealed: "A dream we've long since had and just never had the time … or the belief that we could. "And yet somehow, when it feels like we've got more than ever on our plate, we thought. "And it's no surprise because both of our parents did the very same thing back in the 80's! And they survived! (just about!)" "In fact, James' sister was conceived in their caravan right on the foundations of the house they still call home to this day!" But Victoria insists she and James won't be conceiving any more kids in their new caravan home. She wrote: "And whilst there is a firm NO on any baby making shenanigans going on in our little love pad, the same belief & hope for something that we've built on our own is there. "It'll be an adventure. A messy, chaotic, mud filled ride - just us & our boys. And we cant wait. We might even get an alpaca. What the hell, in for a penny & all that… "So stick around for the journey you lovely lot - and please - any advice send our way. "Because in truth. We haven't got a bloody clue what we're doing." James' new move comes after his EastEnders co-star Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, moved into a £93,000 motorhome in 2023, after he split from his wife of 22 years, Beverley Sharp. 5 The couple are moving into a caravan Credit: Instagram

EastEnders star's son, 1, rushed to hospital after trampoline accident
Former EastEnders star James Bye's infant son was rushed to hospital excessively vomiting after suffering a fall on a trampoline. Martin Fowler actor James and his wife of thirteen years Victoria share four children – Edward, ten, Louis, eight, Hugo, five, and Rufus, who turns two next month. Victoria runs an Instagram account documenting life events for the family, and told her 130,000 followers that Rufus had been hospitalised after their recent holiday. 'So, it all started earlier this week, when just before bed the boys were outside on the trampoline. And I've said it before, (and I'll say it again) Those bloody trampolines will be the end of me' she said. 'And as I'm watching, somewhat half-heartedly (let's be honest, I'm shattered, it's half term, James is working & there's only so many 'Mummy watch me's' I can take) when Rufus, who was happily playing with a trail of ants (whatever keeps him quiet) suddenly clambered up & in slow motion took a spin, promptly landing on his head. 'After much crying (and frantic checking of doctor Google) he seemed to be ok & calling it a day, I thankfully got them all to bed.' She called 111 during the night, and the youngster was subsequently diagnosed with gastroenteritis rather than concussion, with the rest of the clan then picking up the same bug. According to the NHS, gastroenteritis is a common inflammation of the stomach and intestines caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites. Victoria continued: 'Over the next few days there has been a vom-fest the likes of which I've never seen before. 'I'm talking up the walls, in the door frame, all over the carpet & bum squits galore. More Trending James left the BBC soap in February in explosive scenes – quite literally. The Queen Vic pub blew up, and Martin was trapped beneath the rubble. Clambering through the wreckage to escape, he stopped for a heart to heart with ex-wife Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and was subsequently crushed by a falling beam. One-year-old Rufus's mum frantically called 111 in the middle of the night during the half-term break after he became violently ill hours after landing on his head in a garden tumble. But any doubts were soon swiftly put to bed, quite literally. She wrote on Instagram: "Now, it's fair to say I was a tad sceptical about this diagnosis. Especially with her stark warning at how contagious it was. "Needless to say. I then ate my words. "Over the next few days there has been a vom-fest the likes of which I've never seen before. "I'm talking up the walls, in the door frame, all over the carpet & bum squits galore." To make things more awkward, the family were staying with James' parents at the time with their incontinent dog. Reflecting on the ordeal, Victoria called it a "s**t show". James, 41, and Victoria were back up and running last week after the nasty illness, and the actor showcased a very different look following his EastEnders exit. He rocked a set of dashing sideburns and swept back hair - a look which was miles away from market trader Martin Fowler. EastEnders' James Bye lands a big-money role away from the BBC soap after Strictly fame There was a reason for it. His new role sees him take on iconic Jane Austen hero Mr Darcy in Death Comes To Pemberley. James previously said: "After a decade of gritty storylines it's going to be quite a switch to put on period clothes as one of literature's romantic leading men, but I can't wait for this new chapter to begin." Written by P.D. James, the 2011 novel is a murder-mystery continuation of Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The stage adaptation is by Duncan Abel and Rachel Wagstaff, while it is directed by Joe Harmston. It also includes Endeavour star Sean Rigby as Colonel Fitzwilliam. Earlier this year soap fans shed tears as Martin died heroically following an explosion in the Queen Vic pub. The fruit-and-veg stall holder stayed behind to rescue his beloved ex-wife Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and the pair professed their love for one another before he died.
