Georgia Mayor, Wife Arrested on Child Molestation, Cruelty Charges

The Decatur County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) announced on Sunday evening the arrest of 38-year-old Joseph Kelly, and his 44-year-old wife Natalie Kelly. Joseph Kelly is the current mayor of Climax, Georgia. He has been charged with two counts of child molestation. His wife, Natalie, is charged with two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, as reported by The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). According to the Sheriff's Office release, DCSO had been called Saturday to assist the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. GBI was investigating allegations that Joseph Kelly had sexual contact with multiple minors. Both Joseph and Natalie Kelly were arrested later that same day by GBI agents and Decatur County Sheriff's Office investigators. They were booked into the Decatur County Jail. GBI said Joseph Kelly is also employed by the Decatur County School District. According to this Facebook post, Joseph Kelly was a teacher at Bainbridge High School and was also awarded with the "Teacher of the Year" honor. DCSO says at this time, there is no indication that the alleged acts are related to Kelly's employment as Mayor. Once GBI's investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

Arrests lead to Kansas school lockdown

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A law enforcement operation in northwest Kansas led to several arrests. The Decatur County Sheriff's Office, Oberlin Police Department, and five other agencies worked to serve warrants on three locations in Oberlin. It resulted in two arrests and the seizure of suspected controlled substances, firearms, and contraband. Due to the close proximity to the high school, it was locked down for a brief period while the warrant was served. 'I would like to thank all of our surrounding agencies for their assistance on this case, and actually on many other cases as well. We all work together to better support our communities, because not a single one of our agencies have the personnel and resources to do the big jobs alone. Thank you from the Decatur County SO and the Oberlin PD,' Sheriff David Wachendorfer said. Arrest made after Kansas priest fatally shot Both suspects are being held in the Thomas County Jail on suspicion of possession of controlled substances and firearms violations. Kansas sheriff urges drivers to slow down after issuing three excessive speeding tickets

OBERLIN, Kan. (KSNW) – A sheriff in northwest Kansas is urging drivers to slow down after recently issuing three excessive speeding tickets. 'I figured my post a few days ago about the high-speed driver I stopped would be a one-off, because we don't generally see those high speeds out here that often. However, now I'm wondering if there is a 'Hold My Beer' button on Facebook, because yesterday, I stopped two more drivers on our local two-lane highways for excessive(!) speed,' Sheriff Wachendorfer with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. Driving on two-lane highways requires caution, especially in the country. 'TWO-LANE country highways, with gentle rolling hills, curves, draws, and cross traffic at least every mile. Come over a hill or out of a draw at 102 mph to a tractor pulling onto the highway, and there is almost no way that outcome is going to be pretty,' the sheriff wrote. As seen in the pictures below, the two tickets that were issued on Saturday were for drivers speeding on U.S. Highway 83 in 65 mph zones. One was for going 93 mph, 28 over the speed limit. The other was for 102, which is 37 over. 'PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!! YOU ARE NOT ON THE AUTOBAHN. Driving 90's and 100's+ on our local highways will get you nothing but a ride in an ambulance or blue lights in your rearview mirror,' he said. 'Oh, and our local judge won't be very happy to see you either. He drives on these highways too.' Sheriff Wachendorfer also noted that one of the citations he handed out was to a local resident who drives on the roads often. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
