SMH: Lil Durk Denied Bond Again Before His Trial
Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Lil Durk has been denied bond again as he waits for his upcoming murder-for-hire trial. The rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, went back to court on Thursday, May 8, hoping the judge would let him out on bond, but things didn't go his way. Durk's legal team argued that the whole case should be thrown out, or at least that he should be released, because the prosecutors used fake evidence. They said the grand jury was shown Durk's lyrics and fan-made social media posts, which they believe unfairly painted him as guilty. Still, the judge wasn't convinced and decided Durk would stay locked up until his trial. Durk's team came with a serious bond package: $1 million in cash, $900,000 in real estate, support from other people willing to put up money, plus a promise that Durk would be on house arrest with 24/7 security watching him. But even with all that, the court said no. Now, Durk will stay in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center until his trial starts. The trial was supposed to begin in January but got pushed back to October 14. It's a tough break for the rapper, who has stayed quiet about the case publicly but continues to say he's innocent. Even behind bars, Durk has stayed active in music. Earlier this year, he dropped a new album called Deep Thoughts, giving fans a raw look into his mindset during this difficult time. Lil Durk Files To Have Murder-For-Hire Indictment Dismissed
Lil Durk (born Durk Banks) is pushing to have his murder-for-hire indictment dismissed. ABC7 Chicago reported the Deep Thoughts rapper's legal team accused prosecutors of giving the grand jury 'false evidence' when using lyrics from 2022's 'Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy' that allegedly confirm Banks boasted about the fatal attack. 'The government told the grand jury that Mr. Banks, through specific lyrics in his music, celebrated and profited from a revenge murder that he had ordered,' Durk's lawyer Drew Findling wrote in the filing filed on Friday (April 18), per Billboard. 'That claim is demonstrably false.' He added that the lyrics were written 'seven months before the incident even happened.' Banks was charged with ordering the hit of rival Quando Rondo (born Tyquian Bowman). It resulted in the death of Lul Pab (born Saviay'a Robinson). Findling continued, 'A prosecutor who knowingly secures an indictment based upon false information, or who allows a falsely obtained indictment to persist, routs the grand jury from its central protective function. That is clearly what happened here.' The record in question reportedly makes a direct reference to a news clip filmed shortly after the shooting, but the drill rapper's attorneys said those edits didn't use audio from the original broadcast and that Banks has no affiliation to those who doctored the video clips. In a federal criminal complaint filed last year in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Banks was also allegedly faulted for spearheading Only The Family (OTF), a Chicago-based rap collective 'that acts as a group of individuals who engage in violence, including murder and assault, at [his] direction.' 'Banks put a monetary bounty out for an individual with whom Banks was feuding named T.B.,' prosecutors wrote in the indictment, referring to Rondo by his initials. 'Banks ordered T.B.'s murder and the hitmen used Banks and OTF-related finances to carry out the murder.' Several members of Only The Family allegedly used two vehicles to 'track, stalk and attempt to murder T.B. at a gas station located in Los Angeles' on Aug. 19, 2022, per the filing. The alleged hit was carried out in retaliation for the 2020 killing of rapper King Von (Dayvon Bennett), Banks' close friend. Banks was one of six co-conspirators charged with murder, murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. Lil Durk Announces ‘Deep Thoughts' Album Release Date From Behind Bars: Watch the Trailer
Lil Durk delayed his Deep Thoughts album since being arrested by U.S. Marshals in Florida on conspiracy, murder-for-hire and firearms charges in October, but the project finally has a release date. Durk released a trailer on Monday (March 17), announcing that his Deep Thoughts LP will arrive on March 28 as he remains behind bars without bond. The clip gives fans a look into his creative process as members of the OTF crew communicate with him on calls and run through songs making the tracklist's cut. 'Even the list of songs you sent me is good so I know y'all putting better changes on that s–t. I know it gon' be bigger and better.' Prior to being arrested, Durk heated up in the second half of 2024 with singles such as 'Monitoring Me' and 'Turn Up a Notch,' as well as 'Opportunist' and 'Late Checkout' with Hunxho. He even appeared on Central Cee's Can't Rush Greatness standout 'Truth in the Lies' to kick off 2025. Durk — born Durk Banks — was booked into Broward County jail following his arrest on Oct. 26. Los Angeles federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment accusing OTF crew members — allegedly at Durk's discretion — of a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles targeting Quando Rondo, which led to Rondo's distant cousin Lul Pab (Saviay'a Robinson) being killed. Police believe targeting Quando Rondo came in retaliation to Durk's childhood friend King Von's murder in 2020 following an altercation between Von (Dayvon Bennett) and Rondo's crews outside an Atlanta hookah lounge. 'After the [2020] murder, Co-Conspirator 1 made clear, in coded language, that Co-Conspirator 1 would pay a bounty or monetary reward, and/or make payment to anyone who took part in killing T.B. for his role in D.B.'s murder,' prosecutors wrote while using Rondo and Von's initials. Prosecutors continued: 'Banks put a monetary bounty out for an individual with whom Banks was feuding named T.B. Banks ordered T.B.'s murder and the hitmen used Banks and OTF-related finances to carry out the murder.' Durk has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. He's remained behind bars without bond and will head to trial on Oct. 14. The Chicago native's last studio album, Almost Healed, arrived in 2023. The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and included hits such as the multiplatinum 'All My Life' featuring J. Cole, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
