Andhra Pradesh Vs Karnataka Over HAL's Manufacturing Unit

Last Updated: Naidu has reportedly offered 10,000 acres in the Lepakshi-Madakasira region and has sought the relocating of the HAL manufacturing unit from Bengaluru to Andhra Pradesh. As the Centre approves the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program execution model, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are in dispute over the manufacturing location. Reports suggest that Chandrababu Naidu has proposed relocating the HAL manufacturing unit from Bengaluru to Lepakshi in Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Karnataka state government stated that HAL is Karnataka's pride and will seek a defense corridor for the state. Reports have emerged indicating that Chandrababu Naidu, in his efforts to attract defense manufacturing to Andhra Pradesh, has requested the Union government to shift HAL's LCA and AMCA manufacturing units to Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, Naidu has reportedly offered 10,000 acres in the Lepakshi-Madakasira region, which is barely 100 km from Bangalore. Naidu met with Rajnath Singh in Delhi last week. This has prompted the Karnataka Government to take action. Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil stated that the state will not allow such a shift and termed Andhra Pradesh's action 'unjustifiable". It has been learnt that the Karnataka Minister is likely to meet Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and will urge the Centre to approve the Defence Corridor project for the state. Patil also said he would speak to Union ministers from Karnataka to ensure the state's interests are safeguarded. He further stated that the request for setting up of a unit in Andhra Pradesh as part of HAL's expansion plans is understandable, but asking to transfer the existing Bengaluru operations is not justifiable. CM Revanth Reddy meets PM Modi, seeks support for Telangana's strategic projects

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought his intervention and support in expediting approvals and providing financial assistance for projects in metro rail expansion, road and rail infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing and defence sector growth. He explained the necessity of expanding the Hyderabad Metro Rail, stating that Phase-I, covering 69 km across three corridors, was completed with an investment of ₹22,000 crore, and no expansion has occurred in the past decade. The Telangana government has now submitted detailed proposals for Phase-II, which envisions five new corridors totaling 76.4 km at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. The project is designed as a joint venture between the Centre and the State, with the Government of India contributing 18% (₹4,230 crore), Telangana 30% (₹7,313 crore), and the remaining 48% (₹11,693 crore) being raised through debt. CM Reddy urged the Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to expedite Cabinet approval, citing precedents such as the approval of Chennai and Bangalore Metro expansions. The CM also discussed the critical Regional Ring Road (RRR) project and requested financial and Cabinet approval for both the Northern and Southern sections simultaneously to avoid cost escalations. He also sought support for a Greenfield expressway and railway line connecting Hyderabad's proposed dry port to the Bandar port in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Reddy requested Central support for the State's semiconductor manufacturing initiatives under India's Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which would not only attract massive investments but also help India achieve its $500 billion electronics production target by 2030. He said Hyderabad was now the largest 'Make in India' hub in the defence sector, housing major DRDO facilities and global companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GE and Safran. He appealed for fast-track approvals for defence joint ventures. He sought official notification of a Hyderabad-Bangalore Defence Corridor. Later, the CM also met Union Minister Kumaraswamy.

As Rajnath Singh Inaugurates BrahMos Plant In UP, Here's How India's Defence Production Is Set To Skyrocket

Last Updated: Not only does it establish UP and India on the global map of defence manufacturing, but it is also one of Rajnath Singh's gifts to the people of his constituency, Lucknow The BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility, set up in a joint venture with the Russian government, is one of defence minister Rajnath Singh's pet projects. Not only does it establish Uttar Pradesh and India on the global map of defence manufacturing, but it is also one of Rajnath Singh's gifts to the people of his constituency, Lucknow. 'Today is personally a big day for me as I have realised the aim to make Lucknow a defence manufacturing hub. 500 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs will be created here," said Singh on Sunday as he virtually inaugurated the BrahMos production unit at the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor in Lucknow amid swirling military tensions with Pakistan. World's fastest supersonic missile Touted as the world's fastest supersonic missile, BrahMos production in Lucknow would also see seven ancillary units related to it coming up in the city. 'Private defence manufacturers like PTC Industries are expanding in the region and setting up a titanium and super alloy plant in Lucknow. Very soon the entire region, including Kanpur, would re-emerge as a manufacturing hub," said Rajnath Singh. Remembering Vajpayee Stating that BrahMos is a strong message of India's defence might, Rajnath also invoked former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. 'On this very day, during Vajpayee ji's tenure as PM, we tested our nuclear capability in Pokhran," he said. Singh said that the entire BrahMos project had come up in a record 40-month period and was part of the visionary Defence Corridor project announced by Prime Minister Modi. The BrahMos unit in Lucknow will be the 'centrepiece" of the Defence Corridor Project in Uttar Pradesh. India will manufacture its next-generation BrahMos (BrahMos-NG) at this unit, and Rs 3,000 crore has been committed as an investment for the project by BrahMos Aerospace, the joint venture of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and NPO Mashinostroeyenia of Russia. Rs 1,500 crore of investment will come in phase one, and more than 100 BrahMos missiles will be manufactured here in the next three years. 80 hectares of land were allotted at a nominal cost. The BrahMos Unit will be the centre of production, which will make the main difference in the upcoming Defence Corridor in UP. First Published:

World saw what BrahMos can do during Operation Sindoor, ask Pakistan: Yogi Adityanath

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said a glimpse of the capability of BrahMos missile was seen during Operation Sindoor. 'The world saw what BrahMos can do during Operation Sindoor. And if anyone still has any doubt, then they should ask the people in Pakistan what the missile is capable of,' the chief minister said at the inauguration of the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility Centre at Bhatgaon in Lucknow's Sarojinagar. He also noted that UP was emerging as key engine of growth in India's defence manufacturing sector. Likening terrorism to a dog's tail, which can never be straightened and doesn't understand the language of love, he said it needs to be answered in the same language it understands. 'Operation Sindoor is a message to the world that India is ready to tackle terrorism in its own language,' he said, urging everyone to join hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to crush terrorism, referring to India's robust response after the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 tourists were killed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that every terrorist act will now be treated as an act of war, Adityanath said, adding, 'Terrorism will not end unless we crush it completely.' Laying stress on self-reliance in defence production, he said a truly self-sufficient nation must not depend on others for its security needs. He cited Israel as a model of self-reliance in defence, observing how it has deterred hostile neighbours through strength and preparedness. The BrahMos project and the Defence Corridor reflect the broader vision laid out by Prime Minister Modi in 2014, he said. It was in Lucknow that PM Modi had first announced the two defence corridors projects- one for Uttar Pradesh and another for Tamil Nadu, he added. He also said that after the BJP returned to power at the Centre in 2019, defence minister Rajnath Singh organized the first-ever Defence Expo in Lucknow in early 2020, where the decision to set up the BrahMos production unit in the state capital was taken. On the Defence Corridor project, the chief minister stated that it was progressing rapidly across all six defence nodes in the state. He added that once 200 acres were allotted for the BrahMos project in Lucknow, PTC Industries (a Lucknow- based private enterprise) swiftly stepped in, initiating not just missile-related work, but also a range of aerospace manufacturing activities. At present, around seven anchor units related to BrahMos are being set up in the city, he said. Compared to 2013–14, India's defence production and exports have increased several hundred times. Along with achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing, India is now also fulfilling the security needs of many friendly nations by exporting defence equipment to them, he said. He also said Uttar Pradesh is making steady progress toward its target of ₹50,000 crore in investments and one lakh jobs through the Defence Corridor. So far, 57 MoUs signed during Defence Expo and related events have attracted expected investments of ₹30,000 crore in the defence sector alone. 'We are well on track to provide employment to nearly 60,000 youth,' he said. He thanked BrahMos, PTC, DRDO, L&T, and other organisations that are not only setting up units, but also training and hiring local youth. He contrasted the current progress with the situation before 2017, when jobs were scarce, and migration from the state was common. 'Today, investments are coming in, and MSME units are forming a strong foundation as anchor units,' he added. Earlier, industries were hesitant to come to Uttar Pradesh due to lack of clear policies and safety concerns, he said. 'When people are not safe, how can capital (money) be safe?' he remarked. He said that today both people and capital are secure in the state, and that Uttar Pradesh is progressing confidently to meet the nation's defence needs. He also said strong infrastructure now available — from DRDO's centre to the presence of BrahMos and PTC as anchor units — as proof that Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a key engine of growth in India's defence manufacturing sector. 'Uttar Pradesh stands firmly in support of making India self-reliant in defence production,' he asserted, assuring that the state government will continue to provide full support, including land, for future DRDO and BrahMos projects. Prominent among those present on the occasion included deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi', Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal, BJP MLAs Rajeshwar Singh, Neeraj Bora, Yogesh Shukla, former minister Mahendra Singh, chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and senior officials from DRDO, BrahMos Aerospace, and PTC Industries.

'Terrorism is like dog's tail, needs to be tackled firmly': Yogi

Lucknow, May 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Pakistan-backed terrorism, calling it a threat that understands only the language of force. During inauguration of the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility at the Lucknow node of the UP Defence Corridor, while comparing terrorism with a dog's crooked tail, the CM said that it can never be straightened. Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said India has sent a clear message to the world that terrorism will be met with decisive action. He said, "Time has come for everyone to unite under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to crush terrorism with one voice." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also joined the event virtually and together with CM Yogi launched the BrahMos unit by pressing a button. During the event, a publication related to defence production, titled 'Brahmand', was also released. Yogi praised the bravery of India's armed forces and lauded the leadership of PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Congratulating the people of UP, he said the success of Operation Sindoor was a result of the joint strength of the Army, Navy and Air Force. He said, "The world saw what BrahMos can do during Operation Sindoor. And if anyone still has doubts, they should ask the people in Pakistan what the missile is capable of." He said that PM Modi has made it clear that every terrorist act will now be treated as an act of war. "Terrorism will not end unless we crush it completely," he stressed. He highlighted the importance of self-reliance in defence production, pointing out that a truly self-sufficient nation must not depend on others for its security needs. He cited Israel as a model of self-reliance in defence, noting how it has deterred hostile neighbours through strength and preparedness. The CM said the BrahMos project, and the Defence Corridor reflect the broader vision laid out by PM Modi in 2014. "I am confident that the path India is on will lead to great achievements," he said. He recalled that it was in Lucknow where PM Modi first announced the location of one of the two defence corridors declared in the 2018 Union Budget. "UP was allotted six nodes for the corridor, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi and Chitrakoot," he said. Highlighting past milestones, Yogi recalled that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power at the Centre in 2019, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh organised the first-ever Defence Expo in Lucknow in 2020, where the decision to set up the BrahMos production unit was made. He said, "Work is progressing rapidly across all six defence nodes in the state. Earlier, we inaugurated an ammunition production centre for the armed forces in Kanpur and now there's growing demand for its expansion." The CM said that once 200 acres were allotted for the BrahMos project in Lucknow, PTC swiftly stepped in, initiating not just missile-related work but also a range of aerospace manufacturing activities. "Currently, around seven anchor units related to BrahMos are being set up in the city," he said. Yogi said that UP is making steady progress toward its target of Rs 50,000 crore in investments and one lakh jobs through the Defence Manufacturing Corridor. "So far, 57 MoUs (memorandums of understanding) signed during Defence Expos and related events have attracted expected investments of Rs 30,000 crore in the defence sector alone. We are well on track to provide employment to nearly 60,000 youth," he said. He expressed gratitude to BrahMos, PTC, DRDO, L&T, and other organisations that are not only setting up units but also training and hiring local youths. He contrasted the current progress with the situation before 2017, when jobs were scarce, and migration from the state was common. "Today, investments are coming in, and MSME units are forming a strong foundation as anchor units," he said.
