'Terrorism is like dog's tail, needs to be tackled firmly': Yogi
Lucknow, May 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Pakistan-backed terrorism, calling it a threat that understands only the language of force.
During inauguration of the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility at the Lucknow node of the UP Defence Corridor, while comparing terrorism with a dog's crooked tail, the CM said that it can never be straightened.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said India has sent a clear message to the world that terrorism will be met with decisive action.
He said, "Time has come for everyone to unite under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to crush terrorism with one voice."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also joined the event virtually and together with CM Yogi launched the BrahMos unit by pressing a button. During the event, a publication related to defence production, titled 'Brahmand', was also released.
Yogi praised the bravery of India's armed forces and lauded the leadership of PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Congratulating the people of UP, he said the success of Operation Sindoor was a result of the joint strength of the Army, Navy and Air Force.
He said, "The world saw what BrahMos can do during Operation Sindoor. And if anyone still has doubts, they should ask the people in Pakistan what the missile is capable of."
He said that PM Modi has made it clear that every terrorist act will now be treated as an act of war. "Terrorism will not end unless we crush it completely," he stressed.
He highlighted the importance of self-reliance in defence production, pointing out that a truly self-sufficient nation must not depend on others for its security needs.
He cited Israel as a model of self-reliance in defence, noting how it has deterred hostile neighbours through strength and preparedness.
The CM said the BrahMos project, and the Defence Corridor reflect the broader vision laid out by PM Modi in 2014. "I am confident that the path India is on will lead to great achievements," he said.
He recalled that it was in Lucknow where PM Modi first announced the location of one of the two defence corridors declared in the 2018 Union Budget. "UP was allotted six nodes for the corridor, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Aligarh, Jhansi and Chitrakoot," he said.
Highlighting past milestones, Yogi recalled that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power at the Centre in 2019, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh organised the first-ever Defence Expo in Lucknow in 2020, where the decision to set up the BrahMos production unit was made.
He said, "Work is progressing rapidly across all six defence nodes in the state. Earlier, we inaugurated an ammunition production centre for the armed forces in Kanpur and now there's growing demand for its expansion."
The CM said that once 200 acres were allotted for the BrahMos project in Lucknow, PTC swiftly stepped in, initiating not just missile-related work but also a range of aerospace manufacturing activities. "Currently, around seven anchor units related to BrahMos are being set up in the city," he said.
He further said that compared to 2013–14, India's defence production and exports have increased several hundred times. "Along with achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing, India is now also fulfilling the security needs of many friendly nations by exporting defence equipment to them," he said.
Yogi said that UP is making steady progress toward its target of Rs 50,000 crore in investments and one lakh jobs through the Defence Manufacturing Corridor. "So far, 57 MoUs (memorandums of understanding) signed during Defence Expos and related events have attracted expected investments of Rs 30,000 crore in the defence sector alone. We are well on track to provide employment to nearly 60,000 youth," he said.
He expressed gratitude to BrahMos, PTC, DRDO, L&T, and other organisations that are not only setting up units but also training and hiring local youths.
He contrasted the current progress with the situation before 2017, when jobs were scarce, and migration from the state was common. "Today, investments are coming in, and MSME units are forming a strong foundation as anchor units," he said.
He further said, "Earlier, industries were hesitant to come to UP due to lack of clear policies and safety concerns. When people are not safe, how can the capital be safe?" he said.
He said that today both people and capital are secure in the state and that UP is progressing confidently to meet the nation's defence needs. He also pointed out the strong infrastructure now available, from DRDO's centre to the presence of BrahMos and PTC as anchor units, as proof that UP is emerging as a key engine of growth in India's defence manufacturing sector.
The CM said, "UP stands firmly in support of making India self-reliant in defence production. The state government will continue to provide full support, including land, for future DRDO and BrahMos projects."

Bengaluru, June 8 (UNI) Karnataka Opposition Leader R Ashok on Sunday demanded a special session of the Assembly to deliberate on the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede. Addressing a press conference here, Ashok said the House should also discuss the Congress-led government's failures that cost 11 lives ahead of IPL champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on Wednesday. 'Three separate inquiries have been ordered – which one is genuine? We demand a judicial probe headed by a sitting High Court judge,' he insisted. Ashok also called for enhanced compensation for the victims' families. 'If the government is truly not at fault, it should give Rs 1 crore per family. As opposition leaders, we will contribute our one month's salary to the families,' he announced. Dismissing the justification for such a grand event, Ashok added, 'Winning a trophy is not new. Other states have won before. But no other CM has ever used such events for cheap publicity.' He accused the state government of flouting police instructions and thereby breaking the law, which led to the stampede. Ashok alleged that the tragedy could have been averted had Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar not been engrossed in a power tussle. 'Instead of mourning the loss of innocent students, they were chasing a trophy. The police had informed the government of a casualty by noon, and yet the programme went on even after eight children had died. This shows how stone-hearted the government is,' he charged. Ashok cited a letter dated June 4, from the Vidhana Soudha police to the Chief Secretary, warning that the programme was being hastily organised, with inadequate staff and serious security concerns. The letter had recommended cancelling the event, yet the government proceeded, he alleged. He further stated that police had clearly instructed against the participation of department staff and their families, but the directive was ignored. 'CCTV deployment was skipped, drones were flown despite prohibition, and the stage – which was to accommodate only 20–30 people – ended up hosting over 200, including 11 players,' he said. Ashok pointed out that while the event was officially listed as a government function, CM Siddaramaiah later disowned it, claiming it was not a government-organised event. World Bank data validates PM Modi's governance as 269 mn lifted out of poverty: BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal
In a strong endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's transformational governance, Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Chandni Chowk Praveen Khandelwal said on Sunday that the latest World Bank data reflects the success of inclusive policies that have uplifted millions. According to the newly released report, 269 million people in India have been lifted out of extreme poverty between 2011–12 and 2022–23. The World Bank data reveals a steep decline in the extreme poverty rate from 27.1 per cent in 2011-12 to just 5.3 per cent in 2022–23. This translates to a drop in the number of people living in extreme poverty from 344.47 million to 75.24 million over the past 11 years. Khandelwal credited this significant achievement to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, who assumed office in 2014. He said the sharp reduction in poverty is the result of direct benefit transfers, digital empowerment, rural development and targeted welfare schemes that have reached the grassroots. "Through targeted welfare schemes, digital empowerment, rural development, and direct benefit transfers, the Narendra Modi government has laid a strong foundation for poverty eradication and social equity," he added. Highlighting flagship initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, he noted that these programmes have brought real change to the lives of the poor citizens. Did Pakistan hit Adampur, Bhuj air bases during Operation Sindoor? Satellite images show otherwise
In the wake of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has been projecting a narrative of wins against India, with new reports adding that Islamabad hit the Adampur air base in Punjab and damaged a Sukhoi-30 MKI parked there. Top Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) imagery analyst Damien Symon has debunked the claim, pointing out that Pakistan used a pre-conflict photograph to push its narrative. Symon posted the image used by Pakistan to claim a hit on Adampur air base in a post on the social media platform X. The image used to support the claim purportedly shows a jet near what Pakistan claims to be a burn mark. But according to Symon, it was taken in March of this year, much before India's Operation Sindoor. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the post read. Pakistan not only falsely claimed to hit the Adampur air base, but it also made a similar claim for the Bhuj air base in Gujarat. There, Islamabad claims to have destroyed an S-400 radar. Damien Symon debunked that claim, too, pointing out that what Islamabad claims to be marks of destruction are actually likely to be just oil stains in the air base's service yard. This image also predates Operation Sindoor and the India-Pakistan conflict. 'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' Symon's post read. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations in PoK and Pakistan's Punjab province. The operation was in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's resort town. The operation prompted a confrontation with Pakistan for the next four days, with India hitting multiple military targets while defending its own. The conflict subsided after a ceasefire understanding was reached between the neighbours on May 10.
