Deion Sanders health update: 'I'm getting better, though, right?'
The video posted by Deion Jr. then shows him dipping his legs in an ice bath. The same video showed him more physically active than before, with footage of him shooting baskets on a basketball court, sitting down after tennis lessons and discussing a "run-walk" he finished at his estate in Texas. "I'm getting better, though, right?" Sanders said to his youngest daughter Shelomi in the video. Sanders appeared at a Big 12 Conference media days event on July 9 in Frisco, Texas, but declined to reveal the health issue that has kept him away from campus in Boulder while a wave of recruits visited in June. Recruits were told he was out sick. While recovering in Texas, Sanders, 57, also missed a number of events in May and June, including the wedding of his star player, Travis Hunter, on May 24 in Tennessee, a speaking appearance in Florida scheduled for June 8 and Colorado's annual youth and high school camps in Boulder in June. GONE FROM CAMPUS: Did Deion Sanders' absence affect Colorado's recruiting? 'I got on the phone with him' Colorado doesn't open preseason football practice until late July and doesn't open the season until Aug 29 against Georgia Tech. But Sanders indicated he's coming back soon. In a video posted by his son Shilo on July 16, Sanders is heard talking on the phone with Shilo and telling him that he would try his best to rent a plane to visit him in Florida before visiting his other son, Shedeur, in Ohio as they try to make the rosters of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns. "And then go to work," Sanders said. In an interview with media personality Phillip Dukes posted on July 17, Deion Jr. also gave an update from Texas. "We headed back to Colorado next week," Deion Jr. said. "It's a blessing. It's been a long journey, a long road and soon everybody will know the reason I haven't left this house this summer. ... Everyone will know in the next few weeks or so." In another video posted on July 17, Sanders said Shedeur recently mentioned his father's weight loss and said he looked like Lil Duval, the comedian and actor. In late May, Deion Sanders said on a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel that he had lost 14 pounds related to his health issue. He has a history of blood circulation issues in his legs, but it's not clear if that's related to his recent sabbatical. Follow reporter Brent Schrotenboer @Schrotenboer. Email: bschrotenb@

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders said in a video posted by his eldest son on Sunday, July 20 that he's 'not all the way recovered' but otherwise showed signs of returning to his job in Boulder soon after recently battling an undisclosed health issue this summer. Deion Sanders shares recovery update as possible Colorado return nears
A post shared by @COACHPRIME (@deionsanders) Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is taking small strides in rehab after stepping away from the team to attend to an unspecified health issue. His son, Deion Jr., shared a hopeful update over the weekend. A recent post on the elder Sanders' Instagram account revealed Coach Prime wearing a weighted vest while walking with his son. The caption read, "Every little step I take, my son [Deion Jr.] has been there, so we've decided to keep stepping! Coach Prime is coming to a stadium sold out soon." Sanders' absence has had ripple effects on the Buffaloes' offseason routine after he missed spring youth camps and has not been in Boulder since April. The weighted vest could suggest that Sanders is trying to accelerate his recovery, as it helps build strength. While specifics of his condition remain private, the 57-year-old coach revealed in May, during a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel, that he lost 14-pounds earlier this spring. A few weeks ago Sanders did update Colorado fans on his recovery saying on social media saying 'everything is okay' and that he will provide more details on his health when he returns. Sanders previously missed time due to blood clots in 2023 that forced him to miss a Pac-12 media days. A major sign in his recovery could come in a couple weeks when he is expected to attend the Big 12 media days on July 9 in Frisco, Texas. His presence there could mark a turning point, signaling readiness to return to his coaching duties ahead of fall camp. Colorado kicks off its 2025 season at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29. Deion Sanders mystery illness: Does Colorado coach have diabetes? What we know
Coach Deion Sanders is dealing with an unknown health issue, which is the reason behind his absence from Colorado University's annual summer football camp. On Sunday, his son Deion Jr. shared a health update on 'Coach Prime", as Sanders is popularly known, via a YouTube livestream. According to Deoin Jr., the coach was 'feeling well,' USA Today reported. 'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he is going through, what he went through,' Deion Jr. added. Commenting about the Colorado Buffaloes coach's return to Boulder, Deion Jr. said he did not know when that was possible. 'I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm gonna sit here with him,' he explained. The Buffaloes will play against Georgia Tech on August 29. The Colorado head coach had attended the university's summer camps in 2023 and 2024. The promotional material at the institute's athletics website featured Sanders at events this year as well, including youth football camps on June 10 and 11 and a specialists camp on June 18, according to the NY Post. The news about Sanders' health issues comes on the back of his absence from the public eye recently. The former footballer has not given many interviews since his son Shedeur Sanders' slide in the NFL draft. Sanders had cancelled his keynote speech at the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research's annual symposium on Sunday, June 5, citing an 'unavoidable last-minute scheduling change.' Earvin "Magic" Johnson served as the keynote speaker in his absence. In May, the former San Diego Chargers player addressed his absence at events on Asante Samuel's 'Say What Needs to be Said' podcast. 'I've done no media. I've done nothing for a minute. So coming on with you is something. I ain't been in front of nobody for a minute. I lost about 14 pounds. I'm coming back, but I needed this,' Sanders explained. Coach Deion Sanders has been active on social media. On June 10, he dropped a motivational post on X, saying, 'Let's attack today with all we have. Let's give today everything we got. Let's not save ourselves for tomorrow knowing tomorrow ain't promised. Let's go all out baby. I believe in you & you believe in what God has bestowed upon you. Let's go!' Take a look at his post here: The Colorado Buffaloes coach underwent surgery for blood clots in his left leg in 2023. He has undergone 10 surgeries on his left leg as of 2023. Sanders faced severe circulation issues in his legs, leading to the amputation of two toes on his left foot and partial removal of his left calf. In 2023, blood clots forced him to miss Pac-12 media day and required two surgeries, with risks of further amputation. The Colorado coach has undergone 12 surgeries, including procedures for blood clots in both legs in 2023 and toe straightening in July 2023. However, there is no credible source to confirm that Sanders has diabetes. The former San Diego Chargers player won two Super Bowls in his career. The moniker stems from his high school days, when he was an all-state player in basketball, football and baseball. During one game, he finished with 37 points to his credit, leading to the name Coach Prime.

The Colorado football coach is resting at his home in Texas and has not been with his team in Boulder as they prepare for the start of the football season, Deion Sanders Jr. said in the livestream on Sunday, June 8, according to a report in USA Today. 'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,' Deion Jr., 31, said on the livestream, and added that his father was 'feeling well.' On the same day, Sanders canceled a keynote appearance at a sickle cell disease symposium in Florida, 'due to an unavoidable last-minute scheduling change,' the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research said in a statement. Hall of Fame basketball player Magic Johnson was subbed in his place. Sanders was last seen publicly in April at a NFL draft watch party for his son Shedeur, whose shocking slide became a main storyline. Two days after Shedeur was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, Sanders shared a cryptic post on X. 'A lie don't care who tells it or repeats it,' Sanders wrote at the time. 'Its goal is to be heard. The truth could be standing right in front of u consistently for years but u don't see it because a lie is in your mind.' Sanders concluded, 'The Truth may not be as popular as a lie but the Truth wins in the end.' In May, the coach shared that he was 'hurt' by those who criticized Shedeur's fall — and also gave a glimpse into his recent health issues. 'I hope you're feeling better,' former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel said to Sanders on his podcast. Sanders responded that 'what I'm dealing with right now is at a whole 'nother level' and added that he had lost about 14 pounds. In 2023, the former Dallas Cowboys cornerback underwent surgery to treat blood clots in both of his legs. Two years prior, he had his left big toe and second toe amputated due to blood clots he developed after surgery. At the time, Sanders said that he was experiencing pain and numbness in his foot. 'I don't have feeling in the bottom of my foot at all,' he explained on Thee Pregame in 2023. 'I just want to know what we could do because I want to do it this summer. When we get rolling, I'm not gonna have time to do it.' Read the original article on People
