Deion Sanders health update: 'I'm getting better, though, right?'

The video posted by Deion Jr. then shows him dipping his legs in an ice bath. The same video showed him more physically active than before, with footage of him shooting baskets on a basketball court, sitting down after tennis lessons and discussing a "run-walk" he finished at his estate in Texas.
"I'm getting better, though, right?" Sanders said to his youngest daughter Shelomi in the video.
Sanders appeared at a Big 12 Conference media days event on July 9 in Frisco, Texas, but declined to reveal the health issue that has kept him away from campus in Boulder while a wave of recruits visited in June. Recruits were told he was out sick.
While recovering in Texas, Sanders, 57, also missed a number of events in May and June, including the wedding of his star player, Travis Hunter, on May 24 in Tennessee, a speaking appearance in Florida scheduled for June 8 and Colorado's annual youth and high school camps in Boulder in June.
GONE FROM CAMPUS: Did Deion Sanders' absence affect Colorado's recruiting? 'I got on the phone with him'
Colorado doesn't open preseason football practice until late July and doesn't open the season until Aug 29 against Georgia Tech. But Sanders indicated he's coming back soon. In a video posted by his son Shilo on July 16, Sanders is heard talking on the phone with Shilo and telling him that he would try his best to rent a plane to visit him in Florida before visiting his other son, Shedeur, in Ohio as they try to make the rosters of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.
"And then go to work," Sanders said.
In an interview with media personality Phillip Dukes posted on July 17, Deion Jr. also gave an update from Texas.
"We headed back to Colorado next week," Deion Jr. said. "It's a blessing. It's been a long journey, a long road and soon everybody will know the reason I haven't left this house this summer. ... Everyone will know in the next few weeks or so."
In another video posted on July 17, Sanders said Shedeur recently mentioned his father's weight loss and said he looked like Lil Duval, the comedian and actor.
In late May, Deion Sanders said on a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel that he had lost 14 pounds related to his health issue.
He has a history of blood circulation issues in his legs, but it's not clear if that's related to his recent sabbatical.

Rockies score 4 runs in 9th to top Guardians

July 29 - Tyler Freeman had three RBIs against his former team and Hunter Goodman homered and drove in two runs over the last two innings, giving the visiting Colorado Rockies a wild 8-6 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night. Rookie Warming Bernabel homered for the second game in a row for Colorado, which scored four times in the ninth to erase a 5-4 deficit against Cade Smith (2-4), who retired one batter and gave up four runs, one earned. Bernabel also scored the tying run, thanks to a throwing error by Smith on Brenton Doyle's attempted sacrifice bunt with none out. Mickey Moniak tacked on a sacrifice fly against Tim Herrin after Smith was pulled. Tyler Kinley (1-3) was the winner and Seth Halvorsen gave up one run in the ninth on Nolan Jones' RBI single for his 11th save. Colorado used five pitchers, beginning with Bradley Blalock, who threw six shutout frames. Smith was closing because Emmanuel Clase was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave by the league, under suspicion of gambling. Guardians starter Luis Ortiz was already taken off their roster for the same reason. Cleveland had scored five times in the seventh to go in front 5-3. Bo Naylor's three-run, pinch-hit homer off Jake Bird was the equalizer, while Carlos Santana drew a bases-loaded walk and Daniel Schneemann had an RBI single. Blalock struck out a career-high seven in his longest outing in the majors. The right-hander scattered six hits without issuing a walk, but was denied a second win in a row by his bullpen. Guardians starter Slade Cecconi gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings. The right-hander struck out three and walked two, leaving with a 5-3 lead. Santana, a prime trade candidate, stepped on the foot of Orlando Arcia while tagging him out near home plate in the fourth. Santana was examined by a trainer, but remained in the game. The first pitch was delayed by 2 hours and 30 minutes because of steady rain. --Field Level Media

Deion Sanders looks to future with Colorado after fighting bladder cancer

REQUIRED READING: Deion Sanders health issues: A timeline of Colorado coach's history Sanders said he "can't pee like I used to pee," but is grateful to be continuing his coaching career, also noting he "always knew I was going to coach again." "I depend on Depend if you know what I mean," Sanders said. "I cannot control my bladder. So, I get up to go to the bathroom already 4-5 times a night. And I'm sitting there waking up like my grandson. We in the same thing. We got the same problem right now. We're going through the same trials and tribulations." Sanders was accompanied by his doctor, Janet Kukreja, the director of urological oncology at University of Colorado Cancer Center, and Colorado football assistant athletic trainer Lauren Askevold at his news conference on Monday. His new bladder was constructed with parts of his intestine, he said Monday. Sanders said Colorado's sideline will also look a bit different in 2025 as he recovers from his health scare, with portable toilets being nearby. "I've built myself back up to where I'm able, I'm strong, I'm ready," Sanders said Monday. "I'm still probably about 12 pounds down, but I'm going to get that right and fill these overalls up like no other." Kukreja said the only difference for Sanders moving forward will be adjusting to "a new way of life," but that his outlook looks good as he continues coaching. Sanders said not returning to coaching wasn't a thought during his cancer battle. "I was always going to coach," he said. "It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that god wouldn't allow me to coach again. (I) never thought like that. It's just that, I didn't want to be running down to the hospital once a week when I got all this on my plate. ... I was even like, 'can they bring on the machines and put them in the office?'" Sanders has quite the challenge entering his third season at Colorado, as he must replace reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter Jr., who was the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. He also has a new quarterback in either Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter or true freshman Julian Lewis, after his son, Shedeur Sanders, was selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns in April. The Buffaloes will look to build on their 9-4 finish last season, with their coach healthy and back in the saddle following his extended absence from the program. "I'm so thankful to be back in Boulder, you have no idea," Sanders said. "But I never doubted, one bit, that I wouldn't be."

‘God is so good': Deion Sanders opens up about his battle with bladder cancer

Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders revealed he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bladder cancer. Sanders underwent surgery to remove his bladder and create a new one, with doctors confirming he is now cured of the disease. He disclosed that he lost 25 pounds during his illness and joked about now needing to use absorbent underwear. The cancer was discovered during a routine CT scan for blood clots, prompting Sanders to encourage others to get regular medical check-ups. Sanders kept his diagnosis secret from his sons, telling them it was a foot issue, to allow them to focus on the NFL draft.
