Deion Sanders health update: 'I'm getting better, though, right?'
"I'm getting better, though, right?" Sanders said to his youngest daughter Shelomi in the video.
Sanders appeared at a Big 12 Conference media days event on July 9 in Frisco, Texas, but declined to reveal the health issue that has kept him away from campus in Boulder while a wave of recruits visited in June. Recruits were told he was out sick.
While recovering in Texas, Sanders, 57, also missed a number of events in May and June, including the wedding of his star player, Travis Hunter, on May 24 in Tennessee, a speaking appearance in Florida scheduled for June 8 and Colorado's annual youth and high school camps in Boulder in June.
GONE FROM CAMPUS: Did Deion Sanders' absence affect Colorado's recruiting? 'I got on the phone with him'
Colorado doesn't open preseason football practice until late July and doesn't open the season until Aug 29 against Georgia Tech. But Sanders indicated he's coming back soon. In a video posted by his son Shilo on July 16, Sanders is heard talking on the phone with Shilo and telling him that he would try his best to rent a plane to visit him in Florida before visiting his other son, Shedeur, in Ohio as they try to make the rosters of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.
"And then go to work," Sanders said.
In an interview with media personality Phillip Dukes posted on July 17, Deion Jr. also gave an update from Texas.
"We headed back to Colorado next week," Deion Jr. said. "It's a blessing. It's been a long journey, a long road and soon everybody will know the reason I haven't left this house this summer. ... Everyone will know in the next few weeks or so."
In another video posted on July 17, Sanders said Shedeur recently mentioned his father's weight loss and said he looked like Lil Duval, the comedian and actor.
In late May, Deion Sanders said on a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel that he had lost 14 pounds related to his health issue.
He has a history of blood circulation issues in his legs, but it's not clear if that's related to his recent sabbatical.

Rockies pitcher suffers comical meltdown in nightmare loss as terrible season reaches new low
The 27-77 Colorado Rockies have made many errors on track to being the worst team in baseball this season. But on Saturday night, two incidents on back-to-back pitches truly showed how bad the team has been. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Rockies were down 6-0 on the road against the Baltimore Orioles. Rookie relief pitcher Ryan Rolison was on the bump and was 25 pitches into his outing when he faced outfielder Cedric Mullins with one out. Mullins tapped a simple grounder to the left of the mound and within the pitcher's range. Rolison ran over to field the ball, but as he spun around to toss it to first baseman Warming Bernabel, he fired his throw wide and low of the fielder. Mullins reached second on the throwing error, Tyler O'Neill reached third, and Colton Cowser made it home to open the lead to 7-0. On the very next pitch, Rolison dealt to catcher Jacob Stallings - who hit the ball to almost the exact same spot on the field. The Colorado Rockies — Underdog MLB (@UnderdogMLB) July 27, 2025 Rolison raced over and fielded the ball once again. This time, instead of his throw going low and wide, the pitcher tossed it at least four feet above the head of Bernabel. The bad toss scored O'Neill and advanced Stallings and Mullins into scoring position. Rolison got Jackson Holliday to ground out to second before he was pulled from the game. Surprisingly, Rolison didn't have the worst pitching performance from a Rockies ace tonight. That dishonor would go to Nick Anderson, who gave up five runs on six hits in the bottom of the seventh inning to prolong the misery and stretch the Orioles lead to an unhealthy 17-0. Baltimore would get one more run on the board in the bottom of the eighth to arrive at an 18-0 final score. Despite their horrible first half of the season - which included a 21-0 loss to the Padres back in May - the Rockies have won five of their first eight games coming out of the All-Star Break. They'll hope to win the series with a game on Sunday.

Orioles put 18 runs, shut out lowly Rockies
July 27 - Baltimore's Trevor Rogers held the visiting Colorado Rockies to one hit across seven shutout innings and the Orioles belted three home runs to win 18-0 on Saturday night to even the series. Cedric Mullins smashed a three-run home run and Tyler O'Neill drilled a two-run homer to spark Baltimore's offense. Ryan O'Hearn provided a pair of run-scoring singles -- the latter part of a nine-run seventh inning -- and Alex Jackson added a solo home run after Rogers had left the game. Rogers (4-1) struck out five while issuing one walk. It ended up being a combined two-hitter with Yaramil Hiraldo and Kade Strowd each working one inning. The Orioles improved to 3-6 since the All-Star break and didn't have many problems a night after squandering a four-run lead in a one-run loss to Colorado. The league-worst Rockies lost for just the third time in eight games since the break. The Rockies' only hit through eight innings was Thairo Estrada's one-out single in the second. Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (4-14) gave up six runs on six hits and a pair of walks in four innings as his major league-worst loss total grew. Gunnar Henderson had a team-high three hits for the Orioles while Jackson Holliday joined Mullins, O'Hearn and O'Neill with two hits. The Orioles opened the scoring on O'Hearn's first-inning single. Then the bottom of the order provided a big chunk of Baltimore's production. O'Neill, batting in the No. 7 spot, homered for the second game in a row, with his second-inning shot giving him five long balls for the season. Mullins, who was eighth in the batting order, homered for the 14th time this season in the fourth as the margin grew to 6-0. The Orioles busted the game open in the seventh, with Henderson and Coby Mayo each hitting two-run doubles. --Field Level Media

Ezequiel Tovar's 8th inning homer rallies Rockies past Orioles
July 26 - Colorado's Ezequiel Tovar hit a tie-breaking eighth inning home run and the Rockies rallied from an early four-run deficit to defeat the host Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in Friday night's series opener between two teams that have mostly struggled this year. Mickey Moniak and Thairo Estrada also homered, while Hunter Goodman and Jordan Beck each had two hits for the Rockies, who have posted a three-game winning streak for only the third time this season. Jordan Westburg, Tyler O'Neill, Coby Mayo and Alex Jackson all hit solo home runs for the Orioles, who dropped to 2-6 since the All-Star break. Jackson Holliday rapped three hits. Andrew Kittredge (1-2) took the loss. Orioles' starter Dean Kremer allowed five runs on six hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out five. Holliday's two-out single for his third hit of the game tied the game at 5-5 in the seventh. Despite going up that run, Jake Bird (4-1) was the winning pitcher. Rockies starter Kyle Freeland gave up solo home runs to four of the first nine batters he faced, but he was in line to be the winning pitcher when he exited the game. Freeland worked six innings, surrendering seven hits and four runs. He struck out four with one walk, and was in line to be the winning pitcher when he departed. Westburg's 11th homer and O'Neill's fourth came across a three-batter stretch in the first inning. It marked O'Neill's second long ball since he returned from the injured list early this month. Mayo led off the second inning with his second home run. Jackson's homer later in the second marked his second home run in 11 games since joining the Orioles in early July. Moniak's homer with two outs in the third made it 4-1. Estrada's two-run blast came in the fourth and closed Colorado's deficit to 4-3. Goodman's double tied the score in the fifth and Beck followed with a go-ahead single. Earlier in the day, the Rockies traded third baseman Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees in exchange for a pair of minor leaguers. --Field Level Media
