MTG Flip-Flops Again on Budget Bill She Didn't Even Read
DOGE Committee Chair Marjorie Taylor Greene is apparently 'proud' to have voted for the 'big, beautiful bill' that she trashed just Tuesday. During an exchange with Representative Robert Garcia in Wednesday's House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency meeting, Greene said that she was 'proud to have voted for that bill to fund border security.' 'The bill actually destroys what you guys voted for for the past four years,' the Georgia lawmaker said. But that was a far cry from the language that Greene used to describe the reconciliation package just 24 hours prior. On Tuesday, Greene admitted on X that she hadn't even read the bill in its entirety, and that she 'would have voted NO' if she knew of some of the things that had been added to it, such as a provision that will prevent states from drafting regulation around the artificial intelligence industry for the next decade. 'Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate AI for 10 years,' Greene wrote. 'When the OBBB comes back to the House for approval after Senate changes, I will not vote for it with this in it. We should be reducing federal power and preserving state power. Not the other way around.' In an interview with NewsNation Tuesday, Greene specified that the AI detail is 'pretty terrifying.' 'We don't know what AI is going to be capable of within one year, we don't know what it will be capable of in five years, let alone 10 years,' Greene told the network. In the same interview, Greene attempted to ideologically saddle herself alongside Elon Musk, the ex-DOGE adviser who has gone on a multiday tirade against the bill. In dozens of posts, Musk has lambasted practically the entirety of Donald Trump's domestic agenda as 'pork-filled' and a 'disgusting abomination.' 'I fully understand what Elon is saying, and I agree with him to a certain extent,' Greene said, underscoring her support for the Department of Government Efficiency's cost-cutting mission. The bill passed the House by a vote of 215–214, with two Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against it. Republicans rushed the spending bill through the House, executing meetings and votes during late nights and over the weekend, in order to send it to the Senate. The GOP has spent months attempting to pencil out the bill's primary goal of extending Trump's 2017 tax cuts for multimillionaires and corporations, which the Congressional Budget Office projected Wednesday would add $2.4 trillion to the national deficit. To make the cuts a reality for America's elite, conservatives have taken a metaphorical chain saw to Medicaid and other popular social programs, demanding some $880 billion in cuts.

Crockett asks witness to play ‘Trump or trans' game in House hearing
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) asked a witness in a House hearing on transgender athletes Wednesday to play a game of 'Trump or trans.' 'This hearing has nothing to do with improving government efficiency,' Crockett said during the Delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee meeting. 'It's another attempt by Republicans to distract from their demonic and disastrous policies that are making it more difficult for Americans to make ends meet.' 'So, Miss Goss Graves, I want to play a game,' she added. 'It's called Trump or trans, you ready? 'OK,' National Women's Law Center CEO Fatima Goss Graves responded. Crockett then told Goss Graves that she would ask questions and wanted Goss Graves to tell her 'whether or not it is Trump or trans people that are responsible.' Shortly after, the Texas Democrat began firing off a series of questions including who was behind 'gutting medical research,' raising 'the cost of everything,' and conducting 'an idiotic tariff war.' Goss Graves answered with President Trump's name to every single question Crockett asked. Trump's administration has targeted the transgender community through multiple actions during the first few months of his second term, including by signing an executive order in January recognizing male and female as the only two sexes and directing federal agencies to stop promoting the concept of gender transition. 'As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female,' Trump said in his inaugural address earlier this year. Attorney General Pam Bondi also ordered gender-affirming care procedures for youth to be investigated in a memo from late last month. 'Gender ideology, masked as science, teaches that children should process adolescent stress and confusion as a case of mistaken identity and that the solution is not to root out and eliminate the underlying condition but to acquiesce in it permanently through life-altering chemical and surgical intervention,' Bondi said in her memo. Watch live: Marjorie Taylor Greene gives remarks at town hall
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) is slated to hold a town hall Tuesday afternoon in Cobb County, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta won by former Vice President Kamala Harris in November. Greene, who has been a vocal ally for President Trump, will join a list of Republicans who have held in-person events despite guidance not to do so. The Georgia Republican is also the chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency. The event comes after the GOP lawmaker threw money into slumping stocks last week amid concern over Trump's latest tariff announcement and a global trade war. The move has been criticized by those on the other side of the aisle, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), and brought a potential stock trading ban for government officials back into the spotlight. The town hall is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. EDT. Watch the live video above. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. NPR, PBS face funding threat as House Republicans cite political bias

(Kayla Bartkowski, left, and Anna Moneymaker, both Getty Images) Listen to article Republican lawmakers intensified their calls to dismantle and defund the United States' public broadcasting system, with leaders from NPR and PBS defending their editorial integrity and public service missions in a tense congressional hearing. During testimony before the House's Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) subcommittee, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said, 'We believe that you all can hate us on your own dime,' arguing against federal support for what Republicans described as politically biased media. The remarks come a day after President Donald Trump expressed support for eliminating funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes nearly $500 million in federal funding annually to public media outlets. NPR and PBS leaders, including CEOs Katherine Maher and Paula Kerger, were pressed on past editorial decisions and content, particularly NPR's limited coverage of Hunter Biden's laptop in the run-up to the 2020 election. Maher, who joined NPR in 2024, conceded the network had made a mistake in not covering the story more seriously. 'We made a mistake,' she said, also acknowledging regrets over past anti-Trump social media posts written before her tenure. The hearing reflected longstanding Republican criticisms that public broadcasters skew left in their news programming. Rep. James Comer of Kentucky cited his past support for NPR but said he no longer recognises the content, describing it as 'disinformation.' Greene criticised PBS for content she deemed inappropriate, including a 'drag queen' photo mistakenly uploaded to a local station's website and documentaries featuring transgender individuals. Kerger clarified that such content was part of adult programming and not targeted at children. Democrats on the panel accused Republicans of using the hearing to distract from larger national security concerns. 'If shame was still a thing, this hearing would be shameful,' said Rep. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts. Some lawmakers resorted to satire. Rep. Robert Garcia of California asked if Elmo, a character from Sesame Street, had ever been a member of the Communist Party. 'He's a puppet,' Kerger replied. 'But, no.' Maher told the committee NPR's weekly listenership had dropped from 60 million in 2020 to 42 million in 2024, though it has risen slightly in the past year. She denied that the network is politically biased and highlighted efforts to diversify viewpoints in coverage. Critics of public broadcasting have cited an essay by former NPR editor Uri Berliner, published Wednesday, in which he called for the network to stop accepting taxpayer funding and to acknowledge its progressive leanings. Kerger warned that cuts to federal funding could devastate smaller PBS stations, particularly those in rural areas. 'This is an existential moment for them,' she said. Following the hearing, the Committee to Protect Journalists defended NPR and PBS, calling them essential to public access to reliable information. CEO Jodie Ginsberg said, 'Casting them as propaganda machines undeserving of taxpayer support is a dangerous mischaracterisation.'
