"One question was whether we prefer buying Indian-made products or foreign ones, and if we check where they are made," a student said. "We told him we prefer Indian products — though we joked we were lying. He wanted to know about our awareness on supporting local products." Another student said the PM asked what they wanted to become and advised them to excel in studies and perform well in exams. A third student recalled Modi's humour: "He even asked if we sometimes fall asleep during lectures and shared that, as a student, he used to doze off during geography class. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo We felt proud that he interacted with govt school children." ----- DIVERSIONS & CLOSURES HIT COMMUTERS Traffic diversions and temporary Metro station closures on Sunday morning inconvenienced citizens. For security reasons, BMRCL shut stations between RV Road and Lalbagh, while police diverted traffic from Jayadeva towards RV Road, affecting buses to Banashankari. "Seven of our family members boarded a bus from Marathahalli to Banashankari, but after Jayadeva it was diverted to Jayanagar," said Harsha D, a commuter. Residents of Marenahalli also struggled to access the main road. The diversions caused congestion on several stretches, and police temporarily closed the double-decker flyover from Ragigudda to Silk Board. ----- PINK LINE DEADLINE PUSHED TO SEPT 2026 The 21km Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara Pink Line of Namma Metro will now be fully operational only by Sept 2026, according to BMRCL. The line will open in two stages — a 7.5km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere by March 2026, followed by the 13.8km underground section to Nagawara six months later. The elevated section's opening will also allow full-scale operations at the Jayadeva interchange station, linking the Yellow and Pink lines. Phase II of Namma Metro covers 75km of expansion, of which 54km are already running. Once the Pink Line is completed, Bengaluru's Metro network will approach 120km. Eight years late, Bengaluru metro's Yellow Line ready to run

After nearly eight years of anticipation and multiple delays, the much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, from R.V. Road to Bommasandra, will finally be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The 19.15-km corridor is expected to transform commuting in the city's tech corridor, particularly benefiting lakhs of employees working in Electronic City and helping decongest traffic at the infamous Silk Board junction. Originally envisioned in the 2011 Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), construction of the Yellow Line began in 2017. It was initially scheduled for completion by December 2021, but the project was plagued by a series of setbacks including delays in land acquisition, the COVID-19 pandemic, and hold-ups in rolling stock supply from the Chinese manufacturer CRRC Nanjing. Built at a cost of ₹7,610 crore, the Yellow Line adds 16 stations to the city's metro network, expanding the total operational length of Namma Metro to 96 km. The line is fully elevated and features Bengaluru's first driverless trains, although according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, they will initially operate with loco pilots for safety and familiarity. This metro line is integrated with the city's first double-decker flyover, located between Silk Board Junction and Ragigudda Metro Station. 'Once all trains are delivered and fully inducted, the line is expected to carry over 2.5 lakh passengers daily,' an official said. The line also features crucial interchanges at R.V. Road (Green Line), Jayadeva Hospital (Pink Line), and Central Silk Board (Blue Line—Phases 2A & 2B). Jayadeva Interchange Station, touted as the city's largest and only double-elevated interchange metro station, is a four-tier structure with 12 entrances and lifts in all zones. Serving the tech corridor The Yellow Line connects major IT hubs including Infosys, Wipro, Biocon, Tech Mahindra, and Delta Electronics. The line ends at Bommasandra, adjacent to Delta Electronics, and passes through areas like BTM Layout, Kudlu Gate, Electronic City, and Hebbagodi easing travel for thousands of tech workers and reducing dependency on their own vehicles. Officials said that with only three driverless trains currently available, initial services will operate every 25 minutes. Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), which partnered with CRRC Nanjing, has delivered three trains so far. 'A fourth train has been dispatched and is expected to join the fleet after completing safety and operational checks by August end,' a official added. Commuters frustrated Full-scale operations where trains run at a higher frequency are expected only by next year, when BMRCL receives all 34 train sets. While BMRCL initially considered opening only seven stations, all 16 stations along the Yellow Line will be made operational from day one. For a city grappling with mounting traffic congestion, especially on Hosur Road and at junctions like Silk Board and Electronic City, the new metro line offers a much-needed alternative. However, commuters are not happy with the way the project has progressed. They say the launch appears symbolic, offering limited benefits for daily travellers due to the inadequate number of trains. Naveen Kumar, a resident of Bommanahalli, said, 'One train every 25 minutes, and we're inaugurating it as well? This is a serious joke now. With such long gaps between trains and the expected crowd, it's going to be a nightmare'.

Recognise industrial electronics as national strategic priority: ICEA

NEW DELHI: The India Cellular and Electronics Association ( ICEA ) on Monday said that industrial electronics should be considered as a national priority, and noted that the segment is crucial for the country's $500 billion electronics manufacturing target by FY31. The Delhi-based industry body, which represents Chinese brands such as, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo, as well as Apple and Corning in India, noted that it is crucial to manufacture electronics that will automate factories, cities, and transport networks. 'The industrial electronics segment must be recognised as a national strategic priority. It is the brain and nervous system of every advanced manufacturing setup. Without leadership in industrial automation, India cannot claim true manufacturing leadership,' said Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman, ICEA. According to ICEA, industrial electronics have a massive potential for high-skilled employment, particularly in areas such as embedded systems, automation software, robotics, and AI-integrated systems. 'We must invest in talent pipelines, R&D, and incentives to grow this sector. India should aim to become not just a user of industrial electronics, but a global design and manufacturing hub for it,' Mohindroo said. In March this year, the Narendra Modi-led government approved a ₹22,919 crore scheme to incentivise the manufacturing of electronics components in India. The scheme is expected to attract an investment of ₹59,350 crore, resulting in the production of ₹4.56 lakh crore worth of products 'The industrial electronics forms the technological backbone of modern manufacturing infrastructure, powering smart factories, robotics, intelligent grids, automated systems, and future-ready transport and logistics networks,' said Manish Walia, VP, Delta Electronics. ICEA is currently leading efforts to craft a dedicated policy and strategic roadmap for industrial electronics through its 'Steering Committee on Industrial Electronics and Infrastructure', in close collaboration with the government and leading industry stakeholders. The steering committee comprises top executives from companies such as such as Delta Electronics, Infineon Technologies, Festo, Fanuc, Rockwell Automation India, Feedback Advisory and Federation for Economic Development (FED). To this extent, ICEA cited that homegrown Amber Enterprises, through its subsidiary ILJIN Electronics India, recently acquired a controlling stake in Israeli Unitronics for ₹404 crore to focus on industrial automation technologies . Unitronics brings with it cutting-edge capabilities in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Industrial IoT, all of which are key enablers of Industry 4.0 . 'This transaction will significantly strengthen India's Industrial automation by providing a strong foothold in the rapidly growing sector of Industry 4.0 solutions and real-time data-driven technologies. This will accelerate our nation's transition towards smart factories and digitally-driven production systems, ultimately supporting the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat in high-tech manufacturing,' said Jasbir Singh, executive chairman & CEO of Amber Group .
