PM QUIZZES STUDENTS ON DREAMS
During an interaction with schoolchildren on the Metro ride from RV Road to Bommasandra, PM Modi asked them about their favourite subjects, career aspirations, sports activities, and the importance of education.
"One question was whether we prefer buying Indian-made products or foreign ones, and if we check where they are made," a student said. "We told him we prefer Indian products — though we joked we were lying. He wanted to know about our awareness on supporting local products."
Another student said the PM asked what they wanted to become and advised them to excel in studies and perform well in exams. A third student recalled Modi's humour: "He even asked if we sometimes fall asleep during lectures and shared that, as a student, he used to doze off during geography class.

DIVERSIONS & CLOSURES HIT COMMUTERS
Traffic diversions and temporary Metro station closures on Sunday morning inconvenienced citizens. For security reasons, BMRCL shut stations between RV Road and Lalbagh, while police diverted traffic from Jayadeva towards RV Road, affecting buses to Banashankari.
"Seven of our family members boarded a bus from Marathahalli to Banashankari, but after Jayadeva it was diverted to Jayanagar," said Harsha D, a commuter.
Residents of Marenahalli also struggled to access the main road. The diversions caused congestion on several stretches, and police temporarily closed the double-decker flyover from Ragigudda to Silk Board.

PINK LINE DEADLINE PUSHED TO SEPT 2026
The 21km Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara Pink Line of Namma Metro will now be fully operational only by Sept 2026, according to BMRCL. The line will open in two stages — a 7.5km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere by March 2026, followed by the 13.8km underground section to Nagawara six months later.
The elevated section's opening will also allow full-scale operations at the Jayadeva interchange station, linking the Yellow and Pink lines. Phase II of Namma Metro covers 75km of expansion, of which 54km are already running. Once the Pink Line is completed, Bengaluru's Metro network will approach 120km.

Prawn farmers seek govt help

Ongole: The leaders of prawn farmers' associations from the south coastal districts have demanded that the government supply electricity at Rs 1.50 per unit, reduce the price of soy feed by Rs 15 per kg, and immediately take measures to rescue them from the tariffs imposed by Trump. The district leaders of the prawn farmers from Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Guntur, and Krishna met in Ongole on Tuesday, as Prakasam district Prawn Farmers Association president Duggineni Gopinath presided over the meeting. They discussed the plight of prawn farmers and the effect of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on India, and passed resolutions. Observing the reduction in price of soy and other raw materials used to manufacture feed for the prawns, the farmers demanded that the government see the companies reduce at least Rs 15 per kg in the price of the feed, and supply electricity to all prawn ponds at Rs 1.50 per unit. They demanded an MSP of Rs 250 per 100 count Vanamai prawns, Rs 400 per 30 count Vanamai, Rs 470 per 30 count of Tiger prawns, and provide a bonus if the exporters didn't pay the price. They also asked the government to introduce prawns in the menu of meals at government schools, hostels, and Anganwadi centres. The farmers also demanded that the government ensure that about 30 percent of the prawns procured by exporters are sold in local markets, provide loans at a 50 percent subsidy to establish processing units, and encourage exports to Australia, South Korea, and European countries to reduce dependency on the US and China. The Prawn Farmers Association state vice-president, K Srinath Reddy, assistant secretary, M Venkateswara Rao, presidents, secretaries, and leaders from the district associations also participated in the meeting.

HC: Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID don't make one a citizen

Mumbai: A person does not become a citizen of India merely by possessing documents like Aadhaar card, PAN card or a voter ID, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday said while refusing bail to a man, allegedly from Bangladesh, for entering India illegally. The man is accused of staying in India for more than a decade with forged and fabricated documents. A bench of Justice Amit Borkar said provisions of the Citizenship Act lay down who can be a citizen of India and how citizenship can be acquired and documents such as the Aadhaar card, PAN card and voter ID are only meant for identification or availing services. The court refused bail to Babu Abdul Ruf Sardar, alleged to be a Bangladeshi national, who entered India illegally without a valid passport or travel documents. He allegedly procured forged Indian documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID and also an Indian passport. In 1955, Parliament passed the Citizenship Act which created a permanent and complete system for acquiring citizenship, Justice Borkar noted. "In my opinion, the Citizenship Act of 1955 is the main and controlling law for deciding questions about nationality in India today. This is the statute that lays down who can be a citizen, how citizenship can be acquired and in what situations it can be lost," he said. "Merely having documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card or voter ID does not, by itself, make someone a citizen of India. These documents are meant for identification or availing services, but they do not override the basic legal requirements of citizenship as prescribed in the Citizenship Act," the HC said. The law draws a clear line between lawful citizens and illegal migrants, the bench said. People falling in the category of illegal migrants are barred from obtaining citizenship through most of the legal routes mentioned in the Citizenship Act, it added. "This distinction is important because it protects the sovereignty of the country and ensures that benefits and rights meant for citizens are not wrongfully taken by those who have no legal status to stay in India," the court said.

No addl tariffs by US on Indian pharma, electronics: Centre

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday said no additional tariffs have been imposed on Indian exports to the US in sectors like pharmaceuticals, and electronics so far. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said reciprocal tariff at the rate of 25 per cent has been imposed on certain goods exported from India to the US, effective August 7. It is estimated that around 55 per cent of the total value of India's merchandise exports to the US is subjected to this reciprocal tariff, he said, adding that additional ad valorem rate of duty of 25 per cent with effect from August 27 has been imposed on certain goods exported from India. 'No additional tariffs have been imposed on Indian exports to the US in sectors like pharmaceuticals, and electronics as yet,' Prasada said. He also said the government is engaged with all stakeholders, including exporters and industry, for taking feedback of their assessment of the impact from the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the US. 'The government attaches utmost importance to protecting and promoting welfare of farmers, workers, entrepreneurs, exporters, MSMEs and all sections of industry,' Prasada said.
