Denise Richards alleges abuse by estranged husband Aaron Phypers, files restraining order
Denise Richards is accusing her soon-to-be-ex-husband, Aaron Phypers, of years of alleged physical and verbal abuse, filing a temporary restraining order against him this week. In court documents reviewed by USA TODAY, the longtime Hollywood fixture chronicled the alleged abuse at the hands of Phypers, writing, "Aaron regularly threatened to 'break my jaw' and would cry, beg me to stay, and promise to get help − none of which ever happened." Richards, 54, wrote in the request to the judge, filed Wednesday, July 16: "Aaron has caused me at least three concussions. Aaron has told me that he has left recording devices to record me while I was alone in hotel rooms and at my townhouses." USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Richards for comment. The pair, who were married in 2018, are mid-divorce after Phypers filed earlier this month. He owns at least 8 unregistered guns," Richards attested in the documents. Several photos are attached at the bottom of the filing, one in which Richards has a black eye, which she claims was the result of Phypers' abuse. Richards, who was previously married to fellow actor Charlie Sheen from 2002 to 2007, has been with Phypers, a businessman, for seven years. He appeared sporadically on Bravo reality series "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" during her stint on the show as well as on her solo Bravo series "Denise Richards and Her Wild Things." The mom of three and Phypers do not share children together, and the two children Richards shares with Sheen were not mentioned in the restraining order, which the judge partially granted. Denise Richards' daughter Sami says she was bullied for looking like dad Charlie Sheen Citing a recent instance of abuse, Richards claimed that over the July 4 holiday, Phypers, 49, beat her and broke into her private messages, urging the judge to take into account the seriousness of the attacks and her fear that it would be repeated. "On July 4, 2025, Aaron repeatedly got within two inches of my face and screamed at me degrading profanities," Richards wrote. "Aaron repeatedly grabbed my left arm tightly. On July 5, 2025, Aaron came into my townhouse with his father and got within inches of my face and began yelling at me … with his right hand violently hit the bill of my hat with the back of his hand, which caused my hat to fly off my head. I landed hard on the stairs causing me immense pain," the filing continues. "Aaron stole my laptop and sent private text messages he had stolen from my laptop without my permission. Aaron threatened that I would 'disappear' if I called the police." Richards maintained that she had refrained from reporting the abuse earlier for fear that it would result in more damage. "Until now, I have been afraid to report Aaron to the police or file for a restraining order because he has repeatedly threatened to kill himself and me if I reported him to the police," she wrote, adding that that was only one of several threats he would levy if she were to get law enforcement involved. Later in the documents, Richards alleged that while she was asleep Phypers went into her laptop and downloaded everything from her iCloud account, taking photos of her private text messages and transferring them to his laptop. The "Drop Dead Gorgeous" and "Love Actually" star goes on to claim that Phypers screamed expletives at her, and smashed her over the head while she was on the toilet, demanding that she hand her phone over. In the order, she is demanding that he have no contact with her, staying away from both her home and workplace and returning the electronic devices she claims he stole. The outlet said: 'People has learned that Richards' Bravo series, Denise Richards and Her Wild Things, will not have a sophomore run as it was always planned as a limited series from the outset, with no intention of resuming after its debut season.' Denise's series offered an intimate look into the household dynamics, including candid conversations about the actress' marriage to Aaron. During one episode, Denise and Aaron openly discussed their relationship in a confessional interview. Aaron said: 'Being with Denise is it for me. I'm done.' Despite that declaration, Aaron filed for divorce from Denise on 7 July, citing 'irreconcilable differences' and listing their date of separation as 4 July. The filing comes after six years of marriage, following their wedding in September 2018. In his petition, Aaron claimed he has 'not made income' since closing his wellness business, Quantum 360 Club, in early 2024. He also alleged Denise brings in more than $250,000 a month through her OnlyFans account, television appearances, brand partnerships and public events. According to the filing, the couple's monthly spending includes $15,000 on dining out, $10,000 on groceries and household goods, $20,000 on clothing, and more than $18,000 on rent. Before her marriage to Aaron, Denise was married to Charlie Sheen from 2002 to 2006. They share two daughters, Sami and Lola. Aaron was previously married to Desperate Housewives actor Nicolette Sheridan. The pair separated in 2016 and finalised their divorce in 2018.

The couple appeared to be thriving together when the show was airing, with Denise saying in the March season premiere that they would 'never get divorced' under any circumstances. 'It's not easy being married to me,' Denise said in a confessional, prompting Aaron to agree, 'It is not.. But this is it. I'm done.' She added, 'Even if we hate each other, I'm not gonna fucking get divorced,' to which her husband suggested, 'We'll just have different homes or something.' But, in the meantime, the divorce docs reveal a lot of details about the couple's money and how they were allegedly spending it during their marriage. In the filing, Aaron states that, despite previously being an actor and subsequently finding work in the frequency medicine space, he has 'not made income' since last year when he 'had to close down' his wellness company. Comparatively, Denise was apparently bringing in over $250,000 per month thanks to her TV work, lucrative OnlyFans account, and other brand deals and appearances. Aaron claimed that he and Denise were spending nearly half of this sum every month, with their monthly expenses apparently totaling around $105,000. Breaking down the details of their spending, Aaron alleged that a large chunk of the money was being spent on food, splashing $15,000 on meals out each month and an additional $10,000 on groceries and household supplies. On top of this, he claimed that he and his estranged wife were dropping $20,000 on clothes, which was more than the $18,000 they were spending on monthly rent. Other expenses included $15,000 for entertainment, $8,000 for utilities, $7,000 on childcare for Eloise, $5,000 on maintenance and repairs, and $5,000 on laundry and cleaning, as well as $1,500 for cars and transportation and a $500 phone bill. To conclude, he also alleged that he and Denise were putting no monthly payments towards things like life and accident insurance, investments, savings, or charity donations. Aaron has asked for spousal support from Denise, and that he be allowed to retain some property that he feels belongs to him, including power tools, a 2018 Indian Dark Horse motorcycle, and a Ford Shelby GT500.
