Former Arizona Cardinals LB Dennis Gardeck signs with Jacksonville Jaguars

Former Arizona Cardinals LB Dennis Gardeck signs with Jacksonville Jaguars Gardeck joins the Jaguars after seven seasons in Arizona. He had nine sacks over the last two seasons. The Jacksonville Jaguars have added a former Arizona Cardinals fan favorite. According to Jordan Schultz, they are signing edge rusher and special teams ace Dennis Gardeck. The move was made official Wednesday as it appeared on the league's transaction report. Gardeck spent seven seasons with the Cardinals after making the team as an undrafted rookie out of Sioux Falls. The signing does mean some good news. He tore his ACL last season after playing seven games and logging three sacks. He must be ready to go. He was a core special teams player, a team captain. He was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2022. He has 17 career sacks, including seven in 2020 and a team-leading six in 2023. Gardeck will be 31 in August. He will get to have a homecoming if he makes the Jaguars' roster, as Jacksonvill will face the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Week 12. Signs these unsigned Arizona Cardinals free agents won't return

The Arizona Cardinals have a full offseason roster and appear to be done with free agency. They still have a number of their own free agents who remain unsigned. While we detailed how one small detail shows that the door is still open for offensive lineman Will Hernandez to re-sign (they have not assigned his No. 76 to any other player), it would appear that the same detail suggests that some key free agents will not be returning. Advertisement Those players are linebackers Kyzir White, Jesse Luketa and Dennis Gardeck. White and Gardeck, both of whom have been team captains, were starters. However, White's No. 7 jersey has been assigned to backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, while Gardeck's No. 45 was given to undrafted rookie tight end Oscar Cardenas. Gardeck is rehabbing a torn ACL. Luketa finished the season with a calf injury on injured reserve. While he was a solid special teams player and developed as a defensive player, he was not tendered as a restricted free agent and has not been signed by anyone. His No. 43 was given to free agent linebacker Mykal Walker. Advertisement Who is the one Cardinals free agent outside of Hernandez whose uniform is still available? Linebacker Krys Barnes, who wore No. 51. That uniform is still available, although his return seems unlikely with the addition of Walker and Akeem Davis-Gaither in free agency and Cody Simon in the draft. 2025 Arizona Cardinals offseason roster profile: EDGE Dennis Gardeck

The Arizona Cardinals are in offseason mode days away from free agency. Leading up to the new league year, we will take a look at each player on the roster or signed to a reserve deal and break down where they stand with the team. We will look at their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season. Next up is outside linebacker Dennis Gardeck. Gardeck was another Cardinals player felled by the injury bug in 2024. He suffered a torn ACL on Oct. 21 in the Monday night game against the Los Angeles Chargers after playing in seven games with three starts. He was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 25. In 207 snaps (45 percent), Gardeck had 20 tackles (five solo/six for loss), 3.0 sacks for 19 yards, one pressure, four quarterback hits and one interception. All three sacks came in a Week 2 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He also had one forced fumble and two passes defensed. On special teams, Gardeck also played 69 snaps (40 percent). Unfortunately for Gardeck, his contract is expiring and he will become an unrestricted free agent on March 12. Gardeck's status is highly in doubt because of the injury. ACL recovery usually is a minimum of nine months, which takes him to late July. It seems unlikely he would receive a contract offer from the Cardinals or another team while he is rehabbing.
